ChetBassetti performs Town Without Pity on Karaoke Showcase of Karaoke Scene Magazine Online: ChetBassetti performs Town Without Pity on Karaoke Showcase - This a song written by composer Dimitri Tiomkin and lyricist Ned Washington was originally recorded by Gene Pitney for the 1961 film of the same title.
The movie was about a trial of some american soldiers in Germany that raped a girl named Karen.
The lead defense counsel(Kirk Douglas) has no choice but to show that Karin is not as innocent nor liked as she first appeared. Karin eventually collapses under the strain. Her father withdraws her from the trial which ensures that the defendants cannot be executed. The four men are convicted of rape. The damage has been done, however, and the townsfolk turn against Karin.
Karin drowned herself in the river where she had been violated. The last line of the title song is, "It isn't very pretty what a town without pity can do."
Pam donated this great vocal-less backing track and Joyce did a spectacular job of surpassing the original backing.
