You bring a tear to my heart.  It's hard to find someone with your kind of integrity.  Makes me proud and humble to know you (electronically anyway).  If Barry Bonds were only more like you!

Ya'll would laugh if you could see my set up for recording at home LOL, maybe someday I will upgrade to something better but I don't really see a need for it at the moment.....Any serious stuff I do, like original recording projects with bands etc. is done in a professional studio....Anyone can have state of the art equipment  or an expensive mic etc. but if you don't know how to use it to get optimum performance out of it, then what good is it?  There's a guitar player I work with in the studio who is just phenomenal, the dude plays an average priced guitar and just makes it scream :)  I love watching him play..........Anyway, in my opinion it still all boils down to good ole' practice with the equipment you're currently using, continued development of vocal control, and of course.... lots of patience :) technically, each song you record and mix should get better and better each time, and the only time it doesn't is if you're trying to do a song that you're not comfortable with or is out of your personal vocal range etc.  .......I think you sound great on the stuff I've heard from ya, Tammy :)  Keep plugging away sweetie pie

Possible side effects: May cause bleeding of the ears, whistling while you work, tingling of the tongue, urges to grab hairbrushes, uncontrolable air guitar playing, and loud bursts of singing "Feelings"..  Caution: do not mix with alcohol or long shouts of wooooooooooooooo :hi5:  may occur .. :beermates:

Alcohol enhances my performance. The more I drink the more I look for a scout fromAmerican Idol inthe audeince. They just do not know what they are missing.

Really, I am slurring the wrods on purpose! It adds so much emotion that way! Off-key? Nah, that is called harmonizing!

The more I drink, the more likely I am to see a scout from American Idol in the audience, or at a traffice light, or in the restroom, or maybe elephants...

Alcohol doesn't really enhance mine... I tend to just lay there and let the audience do all the work...  LOL

I was gonna say "I tend to just lie there" but I thought that would be misconstrued as lying................ and I wasn't sure how to spell it :drunk: ............ is it lying to lie? Do you tell a lie and lie there? Do you lay down or lie down.......

more profound stuff to follow.... LOL

I was just looking for singing pointers...really   :reddevil:

Being a beginner and all I was curious...how does everyone control their voice so that you don't get louder on the higher notes?  Or even on the chorus...I notice myself doing that a lot too.  It sure would save me a lot of mixing time if I could keep my vocals pretty even.  I hate looking at my vocal wav file and seeing HUGE spots and itty bitty spots....geeze I hate mixing...hehehe :banghead:

Any tips or suggestions are appreciated!   :worship:  :D
Well, you might not believe me but here it is.

I had a modulator surgically grafted to my throat.

Also, when recording, a good mic helps. I got one for my birthday that cost like $35 dollars and I find my waveforms are way more even now, because I can be further from the mic when I sing.

I agree with Ibister that a good quality mic will help tremendously. The shure ms58 rocks, but I also like audix mics. I would say for a good mic you have to spend at least $100. Like he said it is what you can afford though. I don't know how great the quality would be on a $35 mic -

I'm gonna get the worlds biggest mirophone.

Oh man, I can't believe I said that. Everyone will look at my mic and know instantly that I am trying to make up for some personal short coming.

I have the same volume problem, and I pull back, too. I like to keep my high notes in my mezzo voce instead of kicking up into my wafer-thin head voice and sometimes I gotta push a little. And Michael is right...my teacher phrased it a little different, tho...he said to approach high notes from "above" instaed of reaching "up" for them. Even when this doesn't help my voice, it impoves my confidence as to whether I am gonna hit 'em or not immeasurably.

EXACTLY!

I've never had a voice lesson in my life....how do you approach the notes from above?

Hey Sinn... I'm too lazy to look back and quote you.. but have you tried an external sound card? It might help! You plug your mic into that.. it works great and they are not all that expensive.

I just got a Shure SM58 and I'm verrry excited woo!  :dancin:

EDIT:OK... I went back and quoted ya... I'm backassword today.. LOL

Quote:
I do pull back from the mic when I'm singing on my karaoke machine...but when I record the only mic I can use is my headset mic...so I can't pull back

My regular mic won't work on my computer...I don't know why but when I try it, it barely picks up my voice.  Not sure if it's a soundcard problem or what

I sure wish I COULD use my regular mic...it would be a lot more comfortable for me to sing into.  And I would have a lot less breathing noises to silence out when I'm mixing

woooooohooooooo thanks Sheree!

I'll have to look into that...I know I love being able to hear the music through the headset...but I just can't get anywhere close to my live sound with the mic fixed right in front of my mouth the whole time.  I totally chicken out when I need power because I don't want to distort my vocal  I find myself singing the entire song softer so that I can put just a little more into the places I feel need it...and it makes my entire vocal sound boring I think :banghead:

LOL Yeah I am the same way Kev....singing is something I have just gotten into within the past year...so although I enjoy the heck out of it, I still consider it a hobby...something I do for FUN :dancin: I'm not about to go out and spend a ton of money to make my recordings sound professional...that would be like buying a barn cat a tuxedo....and then trying to force the critter INTO it LMAO But if I can get by spending a little money or asking for a few tips to make the recording experience more enjoyable for myself I'm all for it :D I thought about giving up recording(not singing) altogether...but I found that there are actually a few crazy people out there who enjoy hearing me  and I caught some hail when I mentioned that...pmsl LOL So I keep working on my mixes...pushing new buttons...hehehe...trying to get a better sound...I gotta admit I DO run a little low in the patience department though

Thanks so much for your support Kev...you're a sweetie!
