For the most part the vodka here is all imports. I personally prefer Fireball, which is corn whiskey with cinnamon in it. Dunno if you guys have it in the states at all, I have yet to meet an American who knows what it is. I agree Jeff, that beer is an acquired taste... I didn't like bitter the first time I tried it when I was in England, then by the time I came home I was going to the bar and ordering it myself... my ex bf was just thrilled he had "converted" me .

Oh gawd, don't get me started. My husband is a little obsessed with beer.. and I don't mean in the same way Homer simpson is;) We brew (all grain). Now, MOST people who hear we brew think we are alcoholic bootleggers:) Sadly, we just enjoy beer.

I wouldn't call Molsen's or Labatts "good".  In fact JUST the opposite... more like pee, to me;) Sleeman's also markets and distributes several other beers, eh, such as Guinness, Grolsch, Samuel Adams, Pilsner Urquell (That one I actually enjoy), so they aren't some small town brewery;) TO me... their own beer kinda sucks.

Sadly, to be honest, there aren't many "canadian beers" that i enjoy. And, as far as Big rock goes, "grasshopper" is sadly overrated, and really not very good when compared to a VERY good wheat beer. Not really a fan of theirs either... Aren't I lovely?

People go on about loving Rickards.. but, hey, in the end, they are still a molson brand.... Hey, so is COORS light;) And Carling, etc etc. blah blah blah. All the brands are incestuous, ya can't really pretend to stick with ONE;)

And don't get me started on bud.... read the ingredients.. RICE??! as a replacement for barley malt?! How cheap ARE You people? And do NOT give me crap about it making the beer taste better.  (And, you know that Labbatt's  brew's and packagaes bud for the canadian market?) Anyways, Anheuser-Busch own's em, and several ohter beers.... liek michelob, etc.   I prefer beers with the four mains, water, hops, wheat and barley. NOT rice;) Show me a good german who will drink Bud, which is no where NEAR the purity law...

I have to agree with you Gilly - Molsons and Labatts have pretty mediocre products.  Richards is not a bad quaffing ale.  As to Big Rock, it is much better on tap but for some reason their products have a lot of the same taste to them even though they are different styles of beer.  I personally like the euro lagers - Pilsner Urquell, Tuborg, Faxe, Warsteiner etc.  My favourite is Grolsch.

Have you ever tried some of the Belgium style beers from Brassiere du Quebec?  They brew some very good strong ales.

On another note I hope Mikey gives us an update on how his concert went.  Go Dumbdrums!!!

Unibroue. I would recommend their products ANY TIME. Quebec brewed,  based on a belgium style beer.

TERRIFIC advertising, BEAUTIFUL bottles, and amazing beer.

When I drive through quebec i buy several of the HUGE bottles, when I get gas:)


Their fruit ones are amazing, (However, they come and go depending on the season. I love their Éphémère)  however, my fave is la fin du monde, it is a good "champagne" replacement:).... for the average consumer, someone used to a labatt's or a coors, a standard american canadian lager, would find any of their beers "strong", more of a mouthful.

AND, if you TRY fin du monde, POUR IT INTO A BOTTLE.  It is bottle conditioned, so, there IS settlement at the bottom.. plus, ANY good beer deserves to be poured into a proper glass, to be appreciated:)  


Trois-pistole nis a wonderful after dinner, late night drink, good coffee after dinner replacement, great with CHOCOLATE:) yummmm,

another good one is Maudite. Served NOT icey cold. Heck, MOST goooood beers are BETTER left sitting until only simply "cool".....


***Going out of canada.. i personally love "wychwood" products.. or, maybe I simply adore their bottles:) Hobgoblin, fidller's elbow, and Black wych, is TERRIFIC***





Woooo, i MISSED one.  I THINK you would love McAuslan in montreal...I LOVE St. Ambroise pale and and their outmeal stout is to die for... the McAuslan apricot wheat ale is wonderful, great with a light lunch... might be considered "feminine", but, hey, we love it:)


(My husband adds -----Another pretty darn good beer, is Propeller, from Halifax. Their extra special bitter is DAMN good, but I haven't had a bad beer from them, ever.)

Well, I lived in TBay for a year. That was about a year too long... OK, maybe not that bad. Live about as far way as a Canuk can now. North end Vancouver Isl.

Bears, we have them living in our yard. My wife has to walk around them lots of mornings to get out of the yard to  get to work right next door. We don't mind really. It's when they sit on our plants that we get anoyed.

The only problem with American beer is that it's not as strong as other countries. Our avarege 8% pv and American is 4% to 6% on average. Some of the mikro beers are not too bad. just still have that bitter after taste that only the draft here has. I think it's the water..

Faile, I saw your comments about my submission of The Smiths and I have to say that even though my follow ups don't belong here I want to thank you for liking that song because I always loved it. There were certain songs that I just had to dance to when they came on in the clubs and this was always one of them. I remember a few times that it came on and I didn't dance because it was dead in the club or there were no girls to dance with and the crowd was wrong for dancing by yourself or for whatever reason I didn't dance and felt bad about it.  If I had those opportunites back now, I would have danced to it every single time I heard it come on in the clubs. It fit the 80's, the styles, the dance moves so well. It was just golden in my opinion. I also liked songs like Microchip League's New York New York (although it is much more dated by the synthetic music) and songs like Headhunter and especially Sarah McLachlan's Vox. I asked the DJ's at my wedding to play Vox as the last song at my wedding reception. It is in my favorite two songs ever and will never be replaced. Anyway, maybe I should have PM'd you with this but oh well.

As for beers, in my icebox I have the following right now: Molson Golden (believe it or not), Shiner Bock (awesome), Guinness Stout, and Sam Adams. An ususual one I brought to a Mudbug festival in the last 2 months was Pabst. I brought a 12 pack of Pabst there and people were coming from everywhere (this is Texas) to ask where I got it. It is the best cheap beer available and I hadn't had it in years. I still like it a lot. It's not a hard find in Texas (HEB carries it) so it was weird that so many people thought it was a rarity.
