...bout 75 cents, that's what a soft drink cost at that time. I thought it was a good deal.

If they had offered me screws, I would have asked for a nail instead.

I just mean that with a nail I can drove it in with just two hits. With a screw, I have to turn and turn, then I always get sidetracked because it always reminds me of a Byrd's tune, then I start thinking of other songs in that era...

It's a no win situation for me.

Oh man...

That means I have to rely on self-discipline and willpower. Dang, I pawned those years ago...

Chuck,

Self-discipline and willpower are overrated commodities.  You probably got a fair price for them and good riddance.  It does take a certain amount of self-discipline to follow some of these threads (this one, for example) but not much and it barely shows up on my Captain Midnight Self-Discipline Detector.

I guess we all post for different reasons.  I found this site by accident and stayed around to have a look.  As a nephyte KJ I thought maybe I could get some hints and/or advice about how to run a successful show.  I did.  The advice has been friendly and invariably it has been helpful.  I've even been able to reciprocate a time or two when it came to a subject I knew something about.

But along the way an interesting thing happened.  Something that has never happened in any of the forums I've ever participated in.  I discovered a group of daffy, slightly off-kilter, goofy, witty, caring, wacky, irreverant, smart-alecky, sometimes serious but always enteraining people who don't seem to give a damn if I'm rich, poor, talented, lacking talent, or whatever and who have simply accepted me for no other reason I can think of except that I'm here.

I've met a number of people here who I have the feeling could become good friends were it not for the realities of geography that separate us.  I will only ever meet a very few of you personally and I think that's too bad.  On the other hand I can talk with all of you without ever having to leave home and without running up a horrendus bill on my cell phone.  I like that.

One thing I really like about forums is that, for me, it's an easier way to communicate.  Over in another thread we discussed stage fright last week.  I've never felt it.  But it is often difficult for me to start a conversation with someone who is standing in front of me.  I'm okay once things get going but I'm a bit shy so starting a conversation is hard.  On the other hand I've always found it easy to write.  So this is a great medium for someone like me.

I for one am enjoying this ride immensely.  So keep posting everybody.  You never know who's going to get  something out of what you've got to say.

Oh . . . Chuck . . . I like the new picture.  Tell me, were you wearing black socks when that was taken?  The black bar across your eyes reminds me of the days of the old black and white porno films (yes, films—16mm films in the days before DVDs or even VHS).  The male star was usually wearing black socks with garters to hold them up and nothing else except for the black bar across his eyes.  You may be 40 or so years too late.

Larry

Thats too funny Larry.

Yes about the black bar and the socks. They clash nicely with my London Fog raincoat. :dancin:

I'm trying to sneak-up on Texas GiGi right now. Have you seen her? :)

I just checked, she's not online. Sure all I need to do to know that is to look to my right but who has time for that?

Chuck,

Oh man I'll bet you are a sight to behold in your black socks, garters and London Fog raincoat.   LMAO

I'll bet Texas GiGi is out accessorizing even as we speak.  Something to put a bit more dash and color into your ensemble.  Maybe a nice Trilby hat.

Larry

I like the hat idea.

She keeps telling me I need a belt with this outfit. I know what show she got that from and I'm not giving buying it. :)

BTW - Larry I'm liking the tunes you and Dirt are playing.

Chuck,

Thanks, I'm glad you like them.  When we started this thing Dirt and I agreed that we are of an age where it would look and sound ridiculous for us to try to do anything of recent vintage (the past 15 - 20 years for example). It's a pretty hard sell when you've got gray hair—except for that guy from American Idol.  Geez, it seems like all you have to be is young, pretty and talented and the whole world is yours for the taking.  What about us poor slobs who wouldn't know young, pretty and talented if it bit us on the a$$?

If I could find a karaoke CD of Springsteen's new album (the one that's a salute to Pete Seeger) I would make an exception.  Of course most of those songs are from my generation anyway.

One of these days when I get a chance (maybe tomorrow) maybe I'll sub a couple of things I've done by myself.

As far as your ensemble is concerned I think a belt would be too much.  How about a nice paisley scarf?

Larry

I think that is a great compromise. :)

I used to audition for garage bands back in the early to mid 80's. It was sometimes hard to get them to let me audition because my hair was short and I wore a collared shirt. Once they gave me a mike, they often changed their tune. :)

I wish I could sing half of that stuff these days.

I changed my tune once.   And my oil and my socks.

I don't know if you can post too much ... 'cause I think what some find too much .. others find completely fine.

Exactly !  A perfect example is a time such as now.  I really have absolutely nothing to say.  So during these times, I won't say anything, but I'll still stay consistent with my character, and say nothing in here !

Dude,  If I don't have a clue what you just said,  I doubt you are saying anything.  Can't you go to Ebay or something, and space-out there ?  Also, see if you can bid on "A life" while you're in there.  Do everyone a favor.

Where's Phill,  I'm being flamed again  :(  Rather than dignify your Troll-like diatribe, I'll exercise "Self Control", and not dignify such blather.

I don't want a "cheap" life like yours anyway,  but thank's for the brilliant suggestion :asleep:
