[I know all about people getting busted for getting illegal downloads and all that. That's nothing new. Heck, speeding can get you a fine. You always drive the speed limit? I bet not. Point is, who is gonna show up and look at my cdg's, and if I ever did get busted, who is gonna come forward and say they GAVE me those highly illegal, dangerously explosive, deadly toxic karaoke songs I have burned on on unlabeled cd? Not any of my friends anyhow. It's not like I'm running a large, pirated karaoke show up here, and taking money from all the legal KJ's.... I'm just a singer, and hell yeah I'm gonna take a free song when friends are willing to send them to me.

So you gave an illegal song in return...yes it's legal for you to own the song you bought, but not legal to trade it for one you didn't...unless you are trading the entire disc & not just the song via a copy.
I'm not saying I didn't used to download when Napster first appeared... it was cool [quote[when it began, but I realized through threads like on these forums that it was in fact stealing & I have since either purchased the music legally or deleted the music that I didn't feel like paying for.   Yeah I didn't think it was harming anyone either, but in fact it does.

Hey wait, wasn't it YOU that sent me that last song I posted in the showcase? Yeah, I think it was actually.

If you are going to make a public "false" accusation like that you had better have cold hard evidence to that point.  I have NEVER giving anyone on this forum any music.  I work hard for my discs & am not going to give anything away.

Just..... sue me...... okay?

Well your way of thinking HAS hurt my way of life because other companies get free music & do shows for next to nothing driving legitimate operators out of business because the bars no longer pay their value.  It has hurt my way of life because karaoke manufacturing companies no longer produce as much music because they have to pay to get appropriate licensing & they aren't going to bother since it's going to passed around freely so they don't make new music.  Some even close down.

For the last time, I'm not a KJ. And I don't think a KJ should run a show from 100% illegal downloaded songs. My gosh, an occasional song shared isn't killing anyone's business. You're obviously a bad KJ who thinks he's the best KJ ever.... and yet can't keep a good following, and don't get paid as much as you think you deserve, and has a hard time getting a gig.... and you're looking to place the blame elsewhere.  Pirating KJ's can make a bad name for people, and should not get gigs, but that's not what I am, and that's not near the amount of songs we're talking about here. I'm not paid for using these songs, I am only another singer in the crowd. If I were within close enough proximity, I swear I'd shoot that high horse your on to get you off of it.

Giving the information on how to do it is just about the same thing...yes there are legal uses for these programs, this one happens to not be one of them.

I don't think I heard him applauding, he just said that yes, that was my only option given the fact that I got them online rather than ripping them.

Quote:
She never said excactly how she got the files on the hard drive. For all we know she could have gone to CAVSUSA.com or Tricerasoft.com and bought them for download.

Danny, thanks, but he's obviously just looking to bash someone, and saw me as a likely target. I do get some of the songs I sing in ways that would be considered "illegal". But again, we're talking maybe 3 cd's worth of songs over the 2 years I've been a member here. I'm sure he'll say "one is as bad as 1,000" or something all moral like that, but I am not inclined to care. I do however, get alot of MP3 karaoke files from a PAID Yahoo music membership. (granted, I'm not burning these, but I do not belong to any P2P networks that are "free".... I only use paid ones....) I do see your point though, he did jump the gun before I admitted how I came by the d/l songs. As I said, he's obviously in the mood to bash.

But he can take his best shot, I think they will continue to ricochet.... stuff like this may tick me off, but it certainly wont harm me any further than that.

But if EVERYONE had that same thought..."well it's just 1 song", 1 song becomes millions...which is partly why Napster was shut down.  1 song turned into millions.

Yep because I don't advocate piracy makes me a bad kj and because I can't find club work because of the illegal rigs making $50 per night drive the legitimate operators out of business make me a bad kj.  No in this area, anyone asking for anything more than $100 night is going to get laughed out of the club.  Ask anyone in the area & they'll say the same thing.  GOOD karaoke is very hard to find here, most of it is the computer users that bought their drive off of e-bay (they probably thought it was legal) & the singers don't care & the bar owners don't care because they only have to pay half to 1/4 of what they pay the better companies so they don't care if their karaoke is top notch or not...the seats are filling just the same & the sad thing is the 21 year olds coming to age now are being introduced to this low end karaoke & accepting not realizing what it once was.
I'm not implying you are a kj, but it is that same mentality that display that IS in FACT hurting the karaoke business overall.  Yes you may have only done a couple songs...admittidly by trading/swapping whatever, but like I said, if 1 million people (probably a low estimate) did the same thing, a couple songs add up to MAJOR loss to the manufacturers & hurts the entire business from them to YOU!

I'm not looking to bash anyone, but when someone says that they aren't a pirate when they burn music they don't own, yes I will jump in & say something.  Now I will let it rest.

Well, again, sue me. I don't need someone to tell me what is/is not legal as far as music. You obviously are one of the ones who got busted in the past? And shame on you for using Napster!! I can't believe you admitted that in such a public place!! oh, wait, you're a "recovering" pirate, that makes a difference. Well.........

I dunno, I could almost swear it was you. I'm sure I deleted the email it was attached in, so I'm not so sure I'd have that "cold hard evidence".  I guess people will just have to wonder which of us is telling the truth about that.

Where's the shaking, scared to death little mocking smiley when ya need one? T-Town, I don't know who the hell you think you are, but get a life and quit borrowing mine to drag attention to yourself. And as Danny said, quit making accusations BEFORE people state they've done something illegal. Things like that can get someone sued very easily, I agree.

And, hey, I just noticed, you might be within range after all...... in regards to my earlier post....... You're in Seattle.  LMAO

(and FYI, I corrected some of your typos in these quote boxes for ya, just as a favor)

Now leave me alone and go chase some bad guys, Mr. Barney Fife.

I never made a accusation, I replied to YOUR statement "the only ones I'm burning are the ones people send me."
No accusations on my part, the statement was already made by you.

Burn your home? Charmin is afraid of fire Steven, so I sure hope you were talking to someone else.

But, hey, you DO need a change of scenery. You should pack up and head to Oregon, Odie needs somebody to discuss and play music with. His stuff is way over my little back-porch-pickin' head anyhow.  He needs someone like you around to keep his musical appetite satisfied. LOL

(and DON'T anybody take that out of context please)

I swear, I can be an idiot in the forums and be left alone, no matter what the heck I say. (well, except for that ShyGuy character, he thought I was a bit mouthy and yelled at me publicly for it)  LOL  But then, I start a thread seriously asking for advice, and try to leave my smart aleck side on the shelf........ and somebody decided they want to bash me for it. Ya can't win for losing.

Steven, I needed a dose of you in here.   LOL

Oh, but I just can't let YOU have the last word, that's just not my style.

I was trying really hard, but I just can't do it.

But, I'll go post it elsewhere, not in this thread.......  :D

Charmin might get angry if we keep taking her thread so off topic. (which is actually..... illegal in some states I believe) Not sure about Washington, I'll have to read the statutes for there.

Steven, as a fire chief, I feel compelled to warn you that it could be illegal, for you to burn your home.  Now of course if you don't try to claim the insurance it's really not a crime.  Except if the house is close enough to endanger someone elses home.  And course the EPA throws a real hissy about those kinds of things.

Sorry folks, just thought things were getting a little to hot and some well aimed water might cool em' down.

Kelly LOL

Haha, humor is always welcome in a thread I've started.

And I don't think anybody here is any more worse for wear. Heck, I woke up in a bad mood, then my boss was a pill, and it's 105 here today and I'm not at the river where I'd like to be....... so I needed something to release my pent up emotions on.

T-Town worked fine.  LMAO

(but.... it wasn't my fault.....)

I need to comb thru my By-Law's, and State Shared Interest Ownership laws in Ct. regarding "Accidently Torching your Condo"...  While initially it appears to be tough to establish guilt.. Knowing the court system around here,  they'd find some frivolous cause and shift Onus on me, and would feel the gas can, layout of all the matches, and pattern (not to mention likely origin of fire) might switch burdon of proof to me... Funny how people are so untrusting, So what if I had the baby grand under a tent 40 feet away from my unit, as well as my guitars a few night prior to the tragic incident ?  I was airing out the wood,  It's an annual string instrument player ritual.

That's the problem I have with people who commit fraud and abuse the system,  it ruins it for the rest of us !  These companies eventually crack down on these frauds who are commiting Arson, and ultimately, It makes it harder for those of us deservedly having that once in a lifetime planned out tragic accident you wouldn't wish on anybody, we fall victim to the abuse of a system designed to help people. Nobody deserves to lose their home.  A mans home is his castle.  I was only referring to my One bedroom Condo.
