Hmmm. I would have to disagree here also. The huge surge of microbreweries in the United States has brought us so many fantastic beers that not many Canadian brews can stand up against them. I love Labatts and Molson Golden and there are a few others. If you compare Canadian brews against only the beers that American advertising tries to hypnotize buyers into drinking, like Budweiser, Lite, Miller Light, etc than you're on target. But if you add Sam Adams brews, Shiner Bock (My favorite), and so many others that are fast becoming more mainstream due not to advertisers, but just to great flavor (or flavour as you would say) than you would be wrong. There is no beer in Canada that compares to Sam Adams. I tried it in Washington DC when I went for a city council function and fresh from the draw it was unbeatable by any standards. I did have one bad six pack one time and that was in Texas. It had been exposed to heat and the beer was not good. -Just my opinion. I think Canada is great. I've been there many times, and I would like to go again.

Hi dumbdrums,
I played in Thunderbay in 1979 with my band. It was a bar called "Bunnies" is that the same one your playing by chance. When we played there it was a Satan's Choice biker bar. Anyways have a great show and let us know how it went!!!

hey rob ! im really not sure..i believe it is some outdoor festival for the Hot Rod Associations big annual get together..i am honored that we were sought out by the promoters..if it has anything to do with a biker organization, our setlist is a big hit with that crowd (American Band, Born To Be Wild,HonkeyTonk Woman..etc...)i have a feeling this will be the biggest crowd i have ever played for...(previous record was 4,000) but i love the big gigs cause im drummin and its a farther toss for the inevitable flying beer cup ! thanks for the well wishing rob ! that was very cool of you

Sam Adams as an American beer isn't too bad, but to compare it with Canadian beer is a laugh. Like Crystal said you can't compare it to Sleeman's and you definitely can't compare it to Propeller (made here in Halifax). In fact when I went to another karaoke summit I brought some with me. One of the Propeller's was a Honey Wheat and one of the Americans there said you needed to add a Lemon or lime or some such nonsense. I told him to drink it straight and he thought it was great. Here in Canada when we brew a beer, all the beer needs when done is someone to drink it.

Sam Adams and the Adams family beats any Canadian beer I've ever tried right down to being on a different level altogether. I could probably name about 50 good American beers that beat the Canadian standards. I haven't tried your best beers that you refer to, so I would have to reserve some judgement but your blanket statement about American beers is just a joke. That would have been mostly true about 20 years ago but not even close today. It's all subjective anyway.
We have a place in Austin that used to be called the Draught Horse, and is now called the Draught House. They have some of the best home brews I have ever had including "Kilkinny Cream Ale (one of the top 5 beers I ever drank), American Brown, Bedell's Brown, and about 3 more that are at a top level. Good stuff! and on Wednesday they have free home made pizza, which is very very good. It's a neat place. They let you take your beers out into the parking lot, long glasses and all. It is a super cool european style pub. I used to meet people there from Germany, Scotland etc because they were drawn to it but that has somehow changed. You don't see that as much anymore.

*hands you both boxing gloves and walks away*
I think all beer tastes nasty personally... aside from English bitter. I dunno, it tastes like a wash to me, rather than an actual drink. I would much rather drink mixed drinks or coolers....even rum and coke. That's just me though. *waits to be attacked from all sides now* LOL

You have to develop a taste for most beer from the start. The first time I drank Shiner Bock, which is what I drink all the time in bars that offer little selection I sort of went "Yeah, man that really good". But I was sort of saying, what the heck was that crap. I tried it again and it still had that Bock flavor that is a little bit alarming the first time you taste it but it started growing on me I think from the first time I tried it. I always (and I mean ALWAYS) prefer it cold on tap, because the bottled stuff tends to taste a little more bitter to me, and any heat exposure drops it down the pipe to mediocre. (and I live in Texas)

I'm not much of a beer drinker. But I've always wanted to visit certain areas of Canada. How's the Vodka? LOL
Wish I could attend your gig Mikey... I'd be there in a heartbeat if I could swing it! :(
Ooops... sorry I went off topic there for a minute.. Back to beer..
GO USA!

Being a connoisseur (and quoted numerous times on a local beer show - "I am a media God!" ) - I would agree with some of what Jeff had to say. ("How could you!" :madgo: scream my countrymen) Unfortunately Molsons and Labatts have jumping all over each other to be more generic :( (read American) in their product offerings. As in the US this has opened up a huge market for regional and micro breweries. Sleemans is much like Sam Adams they have become large breweries themselves. I find both products have become somewhat redundant
There are many better products coming from micro and craft breweries both in the US and Canada. Locally Big Rock, Okanagan Springs and Wildrose Breweries make some very fine ales and lagers. A local brew pub chain called Brewsters have wonderful seasonal items.
I have enjoyed many at times (ergo my avatar picture ).
Canadian beer still has more character compared to Bud, Coors, Miller etc. We have a famous saying in Canada about American beer - it is said drinking American Beer is like making love in a canoe - it's frickin' ( substitute word as desired) near water...
As to the question of Vodka check out Newfoundland Polar Ice - it is made from water melted from icebergs - it is almost completely pure. - Strong too!
It's almost Stampede in Calgary. So don't be surprised if there is a beer shortage :beermates: in North America - we party hearty for 10 days in July - WAHOOO!!!!!!
Oh Yeah - the original thread Good luck with the show Mikey - :clapper: I have seen your videos on the web - your band is great. Rock on Bro
