It is brain chemistry, affecting the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine. Genetic markers have also been identified, but I would have to hunt up the information. Thats why behavior modification by itself really doesn't work. I had to go on the meds to even implement it and I was on them for 2 years. Now its crazy...I go to look for my keys and they are hanging right where they are supposed to be and I don't even remember putting them there. Environment can also aggravate the condition.

I had issues with excessive use of legal "speed" (ephedra, white cross, etc) so ritalin or adderal were out of the question for me. If I still had to work full time, I'd probably go back on the Wellbutrin, but for now I'm going to stay unmedicated.
I thought Wellbutrin was non-addictive, but yeah it's probably a smart idea to skip meds if there's a history or pill problems. Hopefully behavior mod can help enough on it's own. Edit -well you answered that part already.

No there is no problem with addiction to Wellbutrin or with Strattera either. Neither one is classified narcotic. I never had an addiction problem either, but I do have a heart murmur most likely brought on by the use of the speed type of substances and thats why I stopped taking them. My doc felt the two meds he prescribed were the best in my situation. I just chose to go off the meds, because I'd really rather not take anything....I can always change my mind later if I do decide I want the extra focus.

Thanks, that gives me a clue for sure. Have you tried finding any nutritional supplements that may help? There are ways to increase the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine without drugs.

Well, let's just say that my most impulsive action's result is getting ready to turn 8 years old soon.
That's been one of my best impulses EVER!!

This isn't fair!
I thought this thread was a competition tween folks who had no legitimate excuse to act impulsive.
Stop making excuses and start confessing!...Just admit that you are very intelligent, but sometimes do stupid things like me.
