Hi all,

I'm new here and would like to ask for some advice on a couple of things if I could.

Firstly, I've been looking at getting an RSQ JVC MK-22 via eBay. Something I've noticed is that the auction titles seem to all mention MP3 ability, and yet the descriptions don't mention it... however they do mention MP4. I'm a newbie in the karaoke world, so my question is this... does this unit indeed support MP3 playback?

Secondly, if I were to pursue a computer based karaoke solution, what is the preferred software that you working KJ's would recommend ?

Thanks much for any help you can offer,

Zig

Check the Manufactures website, and the spec there.  DOn't trust what anyone "says" on Ebay

RELEASE THE HOUNDS!!!!!

For a few years I have been using the ZIPPED MP3+G format (2 files .CDG for lyrics, and .MP# for music all contained in one ZIP file).  And use WINAMP with the CDG plugin to play the files, with Sax & DOtty's Show Present to make it all easy.  I like it becasue of the CHEAP price, ease of use, and I can even play the songs in winamp with out using a hosting program.

Yeah, I did check other sources for information. But I'm still not quite sure if the MP4 format includes the ability of playing MP3.

What I was hoping was that someone who owns the MK-22 could maybe shed a little light on it for me.

Sorry about the other question regarding software. I found a thread that has at least got me on a research trail.

I have a set of Pioneer Laser Discs that were made into VCDs.   That player will play them.    But I don't know what format they were made into.    My player plays VCDS and CD+G and regular cds.

I have a RSQ 22 and it will play the MP3 tracks. To insure we're talking about the same MP3, the ones I played in the RSQ 22 were audio MP3 tracks. It also plays the GD+G karaoke discs.

For a review of the RSQ 22 go here: http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=7082

MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14, *.mp4) is backwards compatible with MP3.

FYI: MPEG-4 Part 14, formally, ISO/IEC 14496-14:2003, is a multimedia container format standard specified as a part of MPEG-4. It is most-commonly used to store digital audio and digital video streams, especially those defined by MPEG, but also can be used to store other data such as subtitles and still images. Like most modern container formats, MPEG-4 Part 14 allows streaming over the Internet. The official filename extension for MPEG-4 Part 14 files is .mp4, thus the container format is often referred to simply as MP4.

A good free way to go is by using WinAmp with the following plug-ins

MP3+G plug-in for Winamp. This plugin is used to play CDG files (AKA mp3+g) in sync with MP3 or other supported formats by Winamp. This transforms your PC in a POWERFUL KARAOKE MACHINE.

CD+G Disk plug-in for Winamp. This plug-in allows to play CD+G Karaoke disks in your computer. This allow to transform your PC in a powerful karaoke machine.

PaceMaker is a plug-in module for WinAmp player that controls how the music sound as it's playing. That is, PaceMaker is able to...
Speed up or slow down the music tempo without affecting the music key (pitch)
Change the music key (pitch) without affecting the tempo
Change the music "speed" (playback rate) as if vinyl records were played at higher or lower speeds than rated

Thanks wrahn,

That's what I needed to know! And thanks to all for the software suggestions... I'll start with the Winamp plugins and go from there.

Regards,

Zig
