I'm a newbie in every sense of the word. I have only done a handful of shows. Unfortunately I can now see that I have not had the best role models to emulate. I am not even that experienced as a karaoke singer and the shows I have attended certainly did not have KJs who showed even a fraction of the professionalism that is depicted on this forum.
Thanks to everybody for showing me that karaoke is a lot more than just showing up to a gig with a few CDs and some equipment.

I am more of a sound person than a kj; mixing FOH and recording demo for my nephews band. KJ'ing on and off on a very irregular bases since the 90s.

i have 10 years in.....that makes around 70 years so far. i averaged the folks that just put years in to have started in the middle of a year.

Started in 2001. So add another 5. Ran for a Karaoke Pimp for the first 4. Feels good to finally be free and own my own business.

This is going to sound really stupid, but I can't remember when I started.
I subbed for a KJ before I started my own business.
I'll guess and stay on the conservative side and say 5 years.

First time I hosted was about 1997, filled in for a host who couldn't make it. I have been hosting sporatically ever since then. I started to get my own equipment and got serious about it two years ago.

been a DJ since 1984 (part time), and only did sporadic work at it after that.
In 1996, I became a KJ. In 1997, I started my company!
