hat's right, I'm one of the few Genuine BS'rs left, and I feel I deserve my own special catagory.....There are genuine folks, and then there are BS'rs...but I happen to be both. LMAO

My grandpa loved to tell a story but all the storys was about life and gave us kids an anchor and a sense of humor. One of his favorites was one august it got so hot The popcorn next to the pasture started poppin The cows thhought it was snowing and froze to death....

I would give anything to go back to those simple times.... A boy and girl maybe 12 years old would be riding down the street with a single shot 22 rifle across their handlebars of their bike. Going down to the dump to shoot rats.  Nowdays they would have a heart attack and they would be locked up forever.

Is there anybody on this forum that knows how to butcher a hog or beef or even know what it is to kill a chicken for Sunday dinner.

Can I use my 10% senior citizen discount on Wednesdays for a new one ?   Mine ran off years ago.  Squeezed thru an eye-hole in the front door when I wasn't looking

It's easy to get girls to lend you money Ode.  Just tell them your G-string isn't holding it's truth any longer, and if you don't get a new one you'll have no pop, or life during performance.

Very nice photo Jeanne.  I think tomorrow, I'll drop the  Beagle/bloodhound mix off for a pedicure, and muzzle waxing.  I need a new image too ~   Do you take the bird into an avian vet to clip his wings ?   or are you able to do it yourself ?  I wouldn't know the difference between a blood wing, and a clipable wing.  Never had my birds wings clipped... Just my own feelings.....  Sort've like parents cutting a kids legs off to keep the kid in the house... I never enjoyed that part of my childhood.  Today however, people would likely consider that child abuse.

OK,  I'm getting tired,  better go to bed before I start saying stupid stuff.

oh god do be careful...i tell ya when they waxed my muzzle i came clear up out of my chair ready to knock someone out....   thanks for the compliment steven, quality's not too great, i took it with my web cam...i need to do some research and get me a decent one...

i have a friend of mine who's a bird breeder take care of sabra's grooming needs...you have to handle them a certain way or you can hurt them so i want someone who knows what they're doing to take care of it...lord if she got hold of me while i was doing it she'd bite the crap out of me....

getting their wings clipped doesn't hurt them at all, it's like having your hair cut....and it protects her from harm, there have been cases where greys fly into walls and are killed....she has full run of the house and loves to explore and get into trouble....and of course you know how she likes to read.....she's so smart....i'm so proud....

sleep well steven....

Jeanne,

It's not just dangerous for the bird,  as you say when they panic, they bite.  Someone I know had to have costly surgery to reattach her index finger, In this partiicular case the Mulican Too wasn't hand-tamed,  but I honestly don't know how much difference that would've made either way in this case, perhaps it would, Larger birds aren't an area I know about.  She wasn't holding the birds head correctly, and the bird panicked (at a new Avian vet),  had to have microsurgery, finger was dangling by abit a skin apparently,  moral of the story I suppose is, never leave a finger too close to something that has the ability to easily bite thru walnuts, when that "something" is super highstrung, has anxiety attacks, and will fight for it's life with little warning first... The bird gave her warning,  she wasn't new to birds by any means,  she had LOADS of them... But this bird freaked out,  she has no sensation in that finger now.. Bird didn't know, or like this new vet clipper her...  But it was HER fault,  and the Avian Vet... What kind of people put themselves in harms way...Bird's are smart, you can train them,  but basically, they have instincts, and fears and protect themselves the only way they know how when they freak.. It was explained to me by an Ornithologist,  plain and simple  "Birds Bite'... LOL,  they have to.. Learn the warning signs... They have moods just as we do, and they are very tiiny compared to us... Just like us, there are times you do not invade their space... Understand that, in addition to the fact that Birds train you too....  and you'll do OK with birds...HEHEHEHE.  Smarter birds are a whole different level of pet... First off they aren't inexpensive pets... initially, or to maintain, and feed balanced diets... At least this is what I've heard... Birds can be the most expensive of all domestic pets... Most demanding in terms of time too... It's sad people that aren't ready for such a responsiblity, impulsively get a larger parrot.. unfortuneately that's often the problem, Parrot's aren't first birds for those who have no prior bird experience.  Also as for the flying into things... YEP... All birds initially do,  I used to walk around with mine on my shoulder or forearm, and give them tours... I'd show them walls, hard surfaces...let them get familiar with the space... Being hen's.  once they adapted to their new territory,  the curiousity diminished,  when they got into things they shouldn't get into, it was deliberate to get my attention.. But Mirror's, window's... some bite into wires,  and if I didn't have several set's of window's and screen's on my windows as well, or just storm doors,  I'd have the wings clipped for the animals safety,  I refused to do it in order to make it  more trainable,  I don't like that philosophy....... Bird's often don't return home when they fly thru a window however... God what a horrid thought..

A few years ago  (not sure if I mentioned this to you) I was out walking, and saw this cute parakeet,  I couldn't figure out why it was just sitting there on a fence somewhat hiding in shrubs... I knew better than to take the bird home, or touch the cute little thing because in the wild, especially with birds at home,  that's often deadly. In the wild, Psittacosis, parasites, you name it are commonly found on birds... last thing I need is for two birds, and me to contract an infection from my bringing home a guest.  I don't need a pet to give me Clamydia  LMAO    But birds are huge carriers of it...  As it turned out this little blue keet lived in attics in the winter, and hung outside in the spring.. Cockatiels are now wild in southern CT..  A guy has a farm with loads of them... Pretty neat IMO...

Yeah Charmin,  funny thing about bass strings...   From what I've seen,  they are one of the few items,  that haven't skyrocketed over the years proportionally with the cost of living rising...  What I paid for strings in the 70's is what I pay today..

Karyoke,

I've never butchered a hog but I used to be in charge of getting the chicken for supper when I was a kid in Nebraska.  My mother expected me to deliver a dead but fresh chicken so I was in charge of the beheading as well.  I was also the one who took care of the vegetable garden (weeding, watering, etc.) under the direction of my mom who was the official gardener.

The cattle and hogs we sent to town for butchering as we really didn't have a good facility for it.  Oh Lord I know it's sinful but I still love the taste of cookies made with home rendered lard.  It's also great for frying eggs or anything else where some grease is required.  Where I draw the line is where lard was used in home-made medicines.  Some of those concoctions were truly unspeakable.  I used to think that if they didn't kill you whatever you had wasn't so bad and that it might be a good idea to rethink whether I was really sick or not.

Larry
