"Dream On" IS a very hard song to sing.  There are parts in it that would sterilize most men....

On that note, I saw Billy Joel in concert a few years back.  He did Innocent Man and he had a woman back-up singer sing the part where he goes into a falsetto ("I am an innocent man")

I heard somewhere that Bob Segar's voice is toast.  Was reading that some folkes wanted him to "tour" again but some had commented that he probably couldn't do it.

On the Sstones bit -- man Keith Richards has looked like walking death for years.  Its amazing that he can still tour/play after abusing his body for so many years.  Check out his hands next time you see an interview of him-- they look like a knarled mess-- a wonder he can play.  But then again, I don't think most of the Stones licks (no pun intended) are as fast or intricate as other artists (e.g. Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Page, Clapton, Angus Young)

The hardest song.....that's easy - anything with "Elvis" stamped on it - I've got a very quiet low speaking voice normally - perfect for "low" songs....try it sometimes - the song goes here, then it goes there, then it holds a looooong note then it changes cadence...and in the end....work like a good little dog to get it even close - and other people say" that should be easy for you"....
So for me anyhow - that's the hardest cept for places like realyl high, but there's a trick to it I found, if anyone's interested, drop an octave and then try high notes and it works....it's in range then.

Someone wrote how hard it is to sing Midnight Train To Georgia..I love singing that song and it is my most requested. The hardest song I EVER attempted was Free Your Mind by EnVogue. Ewww...that was bad.

my hardest song to sing would be anything steven wants to hear....hes really tuff on me...hurts my feelings alot, made me cry 3 times...he doesn't know any of this but its true...a man can only takes so much before he breaks.... ohhhh and he yell's at me alot to....   gotta go i feel a complex comin on

but i will say the hardest song i ever sang was a song i recorded for my mom right after she passed away....

Range wise it has to be "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)" by Chilliwack, the Canadians will know who I mean.  Goes from a low bass to stratosphere.  Burton Cummings and Guess Who stuff can be challeging also but lots of fun.

The hardest song I ever tried to sing was "Loving You" by Minnie Ripperton. (Just kidding.)

I have a deep voice so almost all the songs are hard for me to sing, but I try anyway. I tried "Thunder Road" by Bruce Springsteen, last week. Bad idea. I forgot how high it got. I was okay until I got to "tonight we'll be free, all the promises will be broken" then I had to drop an octave. Then later I had to drop another octave. I won't be singing that one again.

The hardest song I regularly try to sing is "Your Song" by Garth Brooks. I can only hit the high notes at the end about a third of the time.

"One Week" by Barenaked Ladies is tough, too. There's no place to breathe and the words go by really fast. I have to be sober to sing that one.

I'm usually pretty good at improvising in songs that I don't normally sing, but one night I heard a song on the radio on the way to the club.  The song was "If You Love Me" by  Brownstone, from the movie entitled Living Out Loud.  I did fine for the first part of the song, but when it got into the harmonies near the end of the song, I failed miserably.  I couldn't decide which harmony part to sing and the improvisation part of the song was pretty lengthy.  I got so bored with myself and couldn't wait until the song was over.  Oh, well - no one gets anywhere without stepping out of the box!!

I tried A Little Respect by Erasure last night and didn't quite hit the right key and couldn't really recover it

Are you just talking about karaoke?  'Cuz I tackled some tough ones when I was taking voice lessons!  For example, "The Simple Joys of Maidenhood" from the musical "Camelot".  I never did sing that song publicly, which is probably a good thing, 'cause it was so hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!  

One song I sang a few months ago that was rather difficult:  "I Say a Little Prayer" by Dionne Warwick.  Some of those octave jumps (like "before I put on my makeup") are hard to hit.  Even though my brain knows what the notes are, my voice didn't always cooperate!   Plus the song goes pretty fast!   It didn't sound to me like it'd be that hard to sing, but it was!  

If you've read my early posts on this site, you've probably already read about me having sung "Psychobabble" during a "live band karaoke" event.   Well, quite a few people (including Alan Parsons, who co-wrote the song) have said that it's a difficult song to sing.  That really surprised me, 'cause I freakin' NAILED it!  I can think of a lot of songs that are a LOT harder to sing--harder for me, anyway!   There are a lot of songs that I won't even attempt 'cause I know I'd sound crappy trying to sing them!  

BTW, in case you're wondering:  My voice can go pretty high when I'm singing vocal warm-ups--but not during an actual song!   My voice teacher said I'm a 1st soprano, but I've never been comfortable singing 1st soprano.  (I only took voice lessons for 2 years--then I had a kid.)  I much prefer singing alto.

I wasn't the one who asked you to sing the Paul Anka song "Having my Baby" last week,  but just because you sang it better when we were going steady didn't mean it still didn't sound good,  I just said, You don't sing it with the same twinkle in your eye you once had.. Yet it is sort've cute when you cry...





Yeah,  some folks are just really versatile,  I really enjoy the way Kate Bush cover's Barry White songs on her newest soul tribute album...

Bohemian Rhapsody stands out as the hardest song i've ever tried to sing. However i did well with Fat Bottomed Girls and We Are The Champions. I'm still trying to figure out what kind voice i have. I don't believe im a tenor though. Probably baritone but i have a falsetto...I should record my voice to see what it sounds like. I love doing Guess Who songs. I've done American Woman and it turned out well.

The hardest song I ever sang in Karaoke was Green Manalishi - Judas Priest. When I sing in front of the crowd all my breath control goes out the window and I end-up singing from my chest.

The hardest song I ever did with a band was Head Hunter - Krokus. Marc Storace has a super high voice. This was no small task for me being a 2nd tenor/baritone. I was so high into my head voice that my toungue was scared.

From what I hear these guys have a hard time doing these vocals in concert. I would never record something I couldn't reproduce on stage.

I think Stve Perry sang in his throat voice for high notes and his head voice for super high notes.

You can hear the change in tambor in his voice in the song Lights between the opening verses and the 6th verse or so.

The same with Ian Gillan, but he was even smother in the transition to the higher notes.

Surgery on his throat, same with Elton John.

Every now and then for the past 7 months, I sit down and try to do "From this Moment On" from "Kiss Me Kate". For no particular reason I can figure out, "You Make Me Feel So Young" eludes me as well....

songs with a huge range don't scare me. the hardest song i ever tried (and failed) was don't let the sun go down on me by elton john. i spent half the song looking for that first note then finally gave up. never had that problem before or since.

The hardest song to sing has to be "One Week" by the Barenaked Ladies. It's WAY too fast.  You have to have this one mastered BEFORE attempting it on karaoke. It's almost impossible to read the lyrics to this one on the screen. I tried this one a few times and gave up on it.

I have someone who sings "One week" at karaoke. He does an excellent job. Every time he does it I try to sing along. It is impossible.
