Okay I've been reading the forums about different Karaoke players. I know that many of you are computer based, but that's just not in my budget at the moment.
I do know that many of you are partical to the JVC and Pioneer models as well as the RSQ series. I also know that most of you do not care for the VocoPro series at all.
The reason I ask, is that I just got off the phone with my local Guitar Center and they have the RSQ 500 for 169.00.......
I've gone to the Musicians Friend site and they give it a pretty reasonable score.
But the odds are, I'm gonna get a lot more factual and honest feedback from you guys.
So let me know, is this unit worth the price? Or is there something along this line that is better. Now I know that there are killer units out there, but I'm on a very tight budget, so please be gentle...
Thanks in advance,
James

P.S. Since I've been a regular customer in good standing with these folks, they're gonna give me an additional discount as well.

I've never used the RSQ500 - but being in the market for a single tray multi format player as a working KJ - I just ordered the RSQ MK22 unit ( check it out on their website or others)
Good luck whichever way you go

Thanks for the info. I checked out the MK22, and found it for around 120.00, but for the money, since I will be able to get a discount from GuitarCenter, I may still go with the 500, since it does have additional format capabilities. That's provided that between now and the time I purchase it, that someone mentions some real issues with the 500 that I'm not currently aware of. But still, thanks again, I may check into the MK22 some more, since I wouldn't mind upgrading my home unit as well. The one I have at home is so cheap in quality that I would be embarassed to even mention the name here on the board....

Rsq 500 slow load time, even slower than the old 3 trays and single trays that were copies of JVC players. has had breaking down issues in the past that one dealer discontinued carrying them untill they had proven they wouldn't break down as easily, the additional format leaves you with the risk of loosiing over 1000 songs to a scratch etc. those are just issues I have read in other posts. Better to go with the mk22 in my opinion. I have two dvd player that play cdg, one off brand no name dvd player (DIGIX) and a Daewoo dvd player. out of the two the Daewoo seems to be the better player.

Well I've been doing some more research into the 500 and I have to agree with you guys, the reviews are not very favorable. Although it seems like every site it pushing this model like crazy. The more I think about it, the more appealing the MK22 looks, especially since it comes with it's own rackmount kit. The only problem is, is finding it in stock. My usual places either are out of stock or don't carry it at this point. Seems like everyones pushing the VocoPro stuff. I did find it at one spot for 139.00 and they had it in stock. So hopefully when I get my funds together, it will be more available.
Again, thanks for all the information. Had I not ask, I probably would have gone with the VocoPro or RSQ500, not knowing any better.

I received my RSQ MK22 last week and used it the first time on Saturday.
The unit is very light and almost "cheap" feeling not as substanial feeling as the older single tray units. The unit work flawlessy - Graphics for both cgds and also some dvd music videos I had were good. Audio out put for both were also fine.
Key changer was good. This being my 1st multi format player for use at live shows I thought the load time for either cdgs and or dvds SLOW but it is more like AVERAGE. Not as quick again as a single purpose cdg player.
Overall I am satisfied with the unit which is to compliment my computerized show. I purchased this unit to be able to show some music videos as well as play customer cdgs.

Good to hear, Yeah I need to make a choice pretty soon. I was about ready to dropkick the VocoPro at the Marina this past Saturday night, random access on this particular unit just out and out sucks, it miscued I don't know how many times and it takes for ever to advance through it manually song by song til you get to your mark, really slowed things down.
Mind if I ask who you ordered your MK22 through?

I have seen them on ebay as low as $99 before but you may have to be patient and bid carefully.

Well when it comes to ebay, I'm not very patient, just not a big fan of ebay. But thanks for mentioning it just the same. I'm gonna opt for buying a new one in the box, with one of those warranty things. They tend to come in handy from time to time, whereas on Ebay, there's always the chance, that once you buy it, it's your's, if it messes up, it's still your's....

A lot of times the ebay item is being sold by a reputable dealer. I got a JVC single tray from Karaoke dot com through ebay and had zero problems with it before I got rid of it during my divorce to help me pay some bills.

I’ve received The RSQ MK22 I bought from Karaoke.com and have done a quick review. First, the manual is crap, and is mainly designed to explain the DVD function. There is very little mention about the CD+G function. The manual can be found on this page: http://www.rsqaudio.com/bbs/view.php?id ... d294bca326
The machine itself is very cheaply made and very light in weight. When you push a button on the machine you have to hold on to the player with the other hand.
The player has direct access buttons which will allow one to select tracks, change key and select MX functions without needing the remote. It has ten buttons (1 through 0) which allow you to select the track you want to play. It seems one can push button #1 and it will play the first track, and if you push #1 twice quickly it’ll play track #11. The player also has the standard inputs and volume control for two microphones, as well as, an ECHO control. The player has PLAY/PAUSE, STOP and PREV and NEXT buttons to control the disk. The digital key buttons are the standard three buttons found on the major players. The MX button on the player allows one to select STEREO, LEFT and RIGHT. There is also a REPEAT button which I believe is supposed to allow one to select repeat 1, repeat ALL and OFF (this I believe is the position which allows the player to stop after each track). There also is an LED display which indicates information about the operation of the player.
I played most of the major brands of discs using my normal set-up connecting the player to the audio inputs of a power-mixer using the RCA audio cable and the video to a TV. The MIC was also connected to the power-mixer. I also tried the set-up where I connected to a stand alone TV with speakers using the same audio and video outputs from the player to the VIDEO input on the TV and the MIC to the player. Finally, I used a set-up where I connected to my home theater system with my MIC to the player. In all three cases, the MX function worked fine. What doesn’t work for about half of the GD+G brands of discs, is the REPEAT function’s ability to turn off, so that the next song will not play. This function is supposed to make sure the next song doesn’t start by turning the REPEAT to “OFF”. I tested 11 brands and it only stopped for 5 of the brands. The disks themselves loaded fairly quickly and the KEY setting automatically reset after each song. Also on the machine you can directly select tracks by number, as well as, use the NEXT button to select the next track or the PREV button to select the previous song.
When a disc is inserted the LED display indicates LOAD and then STOPS which means the disk is ready for play. The number of tracks is listed, as well as, the total play time of the disc. The display letters are small and hard to read unless one is very close to the player. There is another display which is displayed at the top of the screen of the TV, by pushing the OSD button on the remote. Unfortunately, every time you insert a new disc the OSD button has to be pushed to see the display of information. Information includes number of tracks and which of the tracks is being played and the time of the track. The remote also has buttons for all the same functions as the buttons on the player. However, the remote also has VOLUME, MUTE, (which turns the sound off while the tracks keep playing) and a SHUFFLE button.
CONCLUSION: Build quality doesn’t match my JVC, but it does work as a Karaoke player with all the major functions accessible using the buttons on the player or on the remote. The REPEAT function works on about half the discs I played, which means one has to be ready to hit the stop button on the player or remote. The buttons on both the player and remote are very small, but can be used. In two cases the display indicated an invalid disk even though I played the same disk before. It was fixed by opening then closing the tray. There were some strange indications, the OSD function came on before I even used the remote then when I inserted a disk it went off never to return until I used the remote. I will use it as a back-up, and if I find a better player I’ll give it to my
Granddaughter.
BOTTOM LINE: It does work as a single tray Karaoke player, with MX and digital key change and track selection both via the player and remote at a great price.
Those of you who have the RSQ 500, can you tell me if the disc stops playing after the selected track is finished playing?

I have the RSQ 500 and I got it off of EBAY for cheap and it came with a ton of songs.
It worked great at first played them all just like it was supposed to.
THEN it stopped. It stopped reading teh SCDG discs that it came with and would play.
THEN it started a few weeks later. It started playing them again.
THEN it stopped again! and that is where I am now.
I called the ebay seller and she was a b**** but gave me RSQs technical support.
So I guess I need to call them now... unless someone here has a great wonderful idea to save the day for me? It basicaly will not read the SCDGs but will read CDGs right now. So its a read problem that works sometimes and not other times.
Any help out there?
Thanks :handshake:

SO check this out...
http://cgi.ebay.com/RSQ-NEO-E500-KARAOK ... dZViewItem
Those dame ebay people NOW are saying it wont play SCDGs
I messaged them saying I will leave the worst feedback and ruin them on ebay if they dont exchange my RSQ for a CAVS 203
I hope this works. Maybe I should threaten to sue next time.
I swear this is the last time I buy anything from ebay... (i've said that before)

I have personally owned a Vocopro 880pro and it sucked!! The first time I used it the thing did not work at all.....Exchanged it for a second one, It worked for about six weeks and quit. I then traded to the RSQ NEO-E500 I have had it for a couple of days now, Seems to be working fine with the exception that the graphics seem to be a little blurry on the Tv. ( can't figure that one out) tried everything to correct it To no avail. The only thing that I can think of is that the Tv is old and I have to use a RF converter to connect. Maybe someone can help me with that!!!

Calm down cupcake. First of all, one negative review is not going to ruin anyone on Ebay. It may have an initial impact, but it's not going to ruin them. Yes maybe they may have been negligent on assisting you personally. But the problem started with the unit itself. The vendors can only go by manufacture specs, and sometimes it takes a while for the whole scenario to play out and flaws to become obvious. The fact that they did post a retraction on earlier claims and are willing to do the the upgrade, shows a positive approach on their part. A cool demeanor can accomplish more than the over used, over heard a billion times...'I'm gonna sue you' will ever do. Best bet is to start over from scratch. A simple note along the lines of, 'Hey look, sorry I got all excited earlier, but I really need a dependable karaoke unit, and to be honest, bottom line is, I'm just not happy with the one that I bought. What can we do to work this out.' If you still feel like they're blowing you off, be the bigger person, use a firm but fair approach. If that fails, Ebay is set up with a customer complaint area. It's also in Ebays best interest to keep complaints to a minimum. Chances are though, they will do the responsible thing and make the right decision. I know that when you're at point A and the vendor is at point B, which may be on the opposite side of the county, that you can feel a bit helpless and angered about what to do. But let cooler heads prevail. They want your money, and you want a reliable player, it's in both parties interest to work it out. If you want to vent, vent to Vocopro, after all they're the ones that put a flawed unit out on the market.

I think the ebay complainer WAS talking about the RSQ model not the VP.
