I do not like pears.....Yes this applies to what we are discussing...Really...um...Oh yes, as I was saying...The PEars...Water Chestnuts to me have the same texture as a pear it's kinda grainy. To me it is like eating a piece of sandpaper. Hmmm....I can spot a diced pear in mixed fruit a mile away...the same with a water chestnut...Bleh!!!
However they are deceiving little creatures these water chesnuts. The remind me a bit of the ever ellusive scallop. I thought for sure they would be gross and they are mucho delicious...But water chestnuts are the opposite for me they look good but that texture does me in....

It is odd how even if a food tastes really good, if the texture is weird, it just doesn't work.

YES that's exactly what it is...... the texture..... I HATE 'em
however...... i LOVE the flavor of pears, so I can overlook the texture of those.... (Ever try "juicy pear" Jelly Belly jelly beans? Now THOSE are amazing!)
and water chestnuts DO have a flavor.... if you eat 'em by themselves..... they're dry and bitter...... ick!

Ever gone go an oriental place and get your cookie and there is not fortune...It has happened to me several times...It's not a ood feeling..Made me think I may be dying at any moment.....
Also always add "in bed" to the end of your fortune..It makes them more interesting....

On a related note, when was the last time you or your significant other had fortune cookies at the top of your grocery list? Does anyone out there actually buy those things? Interview with manager of supermarket:
"And what would you say is your leading seller in the baked goods line?"
"What else? Fortune cookies!!! Sell a TON of fortune cookies--stock up big on fortune cookies. Always big, fortune cookies."
"Yeah, people love fortune cookies."
"They sure do pal!"

Try this one! Grill up some Kielbasa, sliced into slices, saute to just slightly tender, some red, green and yellow peppers, along with some yellow squash and zucchini slices. Throw the Kielbasa in the pan for just a few minutes, then pour it over pasta. Yum Yum! Ad a little basil, and a dash of Montreal steak seasoning. Try it! Bet you'll love it. And I really am not big on Kielbasa. But love all vegetables.
Not on pizza though. That I like only naturally, cheese and pepperoni.
Maybe they ought to have a recipe forum!!!!!

Crystal—you got me on the soy sauce. I forgot all about it. So, anything made of soy except soy sauce is on my list of dietary don'ts.
Kolrabe. How do I explain it? My ex-wife's father called them land mines. It's some kind of vegetable. As I understand it the part you eat is about 2 1/2" - 3" around. Extending from that part are several long stalks each with some leaves at the end.
That was probably a lousy explanation but it's the best I could do on short notice. I tried to Google it and most of the sites that came up were in German. Despite two years of German in high school I neither read nor speak the language. I can count to 1 million in German but that's not much of an accomplishment. Ye Gods! I have trouble enough with English even though it's my first (and only) language.
Oh . . . I almost forgot. Yogurt! Why anyone would voluntarily eat spoiled milk is beyond me. I grew up on a farm in Nebraska. My Dad was a dairy farmer for awhile. I know what milk looks and tastes like. Yogurt ain't it.

Is this the "critter" you're referring to?

That's it. I probably would have found it earlier if I had spelled kohlrabi correctly.
After reading the Wikiepdia article I think I'm going to have to be hosed down. I'm sure that it wasn't meant to be erotic but it certainly reads that way. Maybe it's just me.
'Scuse me now while I take a cold shower.
