OK, I need your vote....
Here is another pic of 'GUS'.....Turns out he is only 9 years old and is a registered Missouri Foxtrotter...He is very overweight, but he loves people-especially kids.
The wife is driving me crazy for us to go get him....The owners want $2.5K and won't back off on the price....He is owned by an old man who can't ride him anymore....The horse has been pastured in a seeded/fertilized burmuda pasture and left to overeat to the point his front feet get tender due to his weight and he requires shoes in front......It will take me a year to get him slimmed down and able to support a rider at a decent trot/run without shoes on dirt/grass.
Wadda ya think?...Should I take him in?

Go here to see the Foxtrotter gait...Keep in mind this video is in slow motion...these horse cover lots of ground in short time without beating you to death. Go to the link then click on 'Gaits of the Missouri Foxtrotter...see how smooth they are!

Can you afford him longterm ? Can you keep him once you get him, or will you sell him ? I'm one who feel's that animals (like people) deserve to have a set home, and stay put... not get traded around too much... If you want him, can afford his upkeep, and will hang onto him, I'd say get him.. If you aren't sure, I'd wait until you are.

JMO... It only costs me maybe 2 bucks/day to house and feed each horse, so that is no problem.
I'm agonizing over his weight problem....He is so out of shape.....It will take me a year to slim him down to where he can hang with the crowd on a long ride.
Don't worry, if I buy him I plan to keep him till he get's planted...That's why I'm seeking your suggestions.......I'm shopping for the perfect horse for me.....My wife already has her forever horse, it's my turn.
We will go out there Sat morning and check him out real good.....So far all we have seen is pics and chatted with the owner....I'll take the trailer just in case.

Yeah, but if the disposition is good that's what matters. So, he goes on a bit of a diet.. You can train him to dislike eating by putting him near a kitchen window when Robbie is cooking something that stinks..

The horse would be a bag of bones quickly if he waited for Ginger to cook for him...I wonder if the girls in Serian cook for their men?....I could escape there with just my horse.....I would give Robbie to Ginger.

I vote yes - I know he will have a good home!
Who knows what will become of this poor horse otherwise - it sounds
like you know what it takes to give this horse quality living.

I wanted folks here to look the horse over and help me decide if he looked like prime horseflesh.....
I can see that I could never take you to the horse auction.....We would go home with all of them

I say yes...He may be some work but it will be worth it...
And besides you wouln't get rid of your wife just because she was a little fluffy...I would think you would just give her more daily horizontal exercise......

You are so right. I have a soft heart for animals. To me horses
are just big dogs.
