The thread in tech about mackie compact mixers got me to thinking how ruggged they are too. Ive run a dfx12 for 4 or 5 years modified the heck out of it have extra 1/4 in jacks in and out for various reasons and has seen outside gigs in all extremes of weather. The power supply heat sinks is screwed to the bootom of the case and in heat I have an old fan out of a tower blowing across the bottom. I have many  had it on all doy and half the night.  I do brush the dust off it regularly. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and still going strong..

In a few weeks we will be doing the farm gig again and last year I pounded some rebar rods into hard ground and with water hose clamps secured the Jbl eons to them.  A devil wind came through and lifted them over 2 feet and slammed them on the ground...Had a heart attack.. Didnt phase em.

But the biggest hero was my wireless mouse.  The next day we were cleaning up lookig for beer in the coolers that was halfway cold to drink...I popped the lid on my cooler and there a few bud lires left and the water was cold... Yea!!!  Then I saw it my wireless mouse was bouncing around in about 3" of cols water... OMG I shreiked I drownded my mouse. My uncle over 80 said wat theres a mouse in there? I pulled it out ans sat it on a picnic table A bunch of kids came running over > They knew wat it was and giggled and giggled..After a beer it was dried out in the sun and I cerimoneously took the battery out nd chucked it in the trash.  Then the discussion turned to should we have the funeral b4 the next set or the next day...Pretty  soon the mouse was being ignored so I tossed it into the van....About 4 weeks later we were setting up and hauling stuff out of the van My mouse was sitting in one of those pockets on the side with netting I was standing there looking at it and Lanny giggled I said yiu think ????  When we finished setting up I put in a new battery and laid the mouse down on the table and the light started blinking I moved it the cursor moved and its worked for a year now. If I can only keep it sober this time out at the farm .. No telling what it might wind up in again... True story LMAO

Mice are funny creatures ... Cats have 9 lives and mice with their reproductive tecniques actully surpass the rabbit.  In responce to Isis post I am rolling on the floor and have several responses but to keep this thread alive and not deleted  I will try to respond...

The scopeof resucittng a mouse is totally beyond the mores and themes of this forum... I can only hint and give vague descriptions of the overall process. Win 98se , me and 2k require a cd is needed to install the divers when a wireless mouse is inserted. Win Xp home edition or xp pro immediately recognizes it and welcomes it with open arms and knows what to do with it.

So whether ones mouse is wired or remote control there is always hope as long as the heart beats Top that one kappy...

Last week a guy at work knocked my wifes new camera cell phone in a glass of water that was on her desk.......I tried to dry it out first with a blast of air from my air compressor, then baked it in the oven at 120 degrees for a few hours....That didn't work, so she envoked her extra cost cell phone insurance policy....What a joke!...The insurance had a $50 deductable and an extra $35 charge to activate the replacement phone, so it cost us $85 even tho the phone was insured.

Anyone need a drowned cell phone? LMAO

Some of this electronic toys are very hardy. I remember an occasion when helping a friend with his project. We were tracking some wild civets that he had transmitters attached. The telemetry receiver set was left behind in the forest because we were in a hurry to get back before the thunderstorm poured in.

He only realized that the set was still in the field the next day. He got it back very wet; cleaned it and dried it with a hair blower put it inside a sealed silica gel jar over nite. Turn it on the next day and it was working just fine. It would be a two months of delayed work if it need to be replaced

The mouse story is so funny. I am picturing this poor mouse bobbing up and down with the beers. I can't even imagine how it could have possibly gotten in there!

Your mouse is a dry drunk now. Congrats, he didn't even have to go to rehab. You'll
have to keep a close eye on him from now on with his addictive nature he could become addicted to other things easily. I wouldn't let him surf porn or the gambling sites.  LMAO

Keith, here is a tip if you do that again. This works only with water if you drop any electronic devices in it. First, immediately turn the device off. Take out the battery, if any, then any other removable items, like covers or memory cards. Give it a quick wash with distilled water. Then towel dry as much as you can. Never put the device in oven, that's a no no. Instead, get yourself a ziploc bag and few of those dessicants. You know, those packets of crystal balls in a bag that comes with some devices to keep things dry. You can probably find those online. Then put a bunch of those in tha bag with your cell phone and wait a few days in a cool place and it should work fine.
