Hi,

I am wondering if its possible to set up a system via the computer that is similar to that in a karaoke lounge. It works along the lines of:

- selecting a song from a list of songs from the computer and have it played back on the TV

- karaoke songs that are played are music videos not those videos that are diy (I have quite a number of karaoke dvds, would it be possible to place these on a hdd and have it played back with the above?

One example I found via the internet is: http://www.unifykaraoke.com/

Has anyone tried that? if yes how it is?

Or is there anything similar to it?

Thank you in advance :)

you can do it for free with winamp, mp3+g plugin, pacemaker keychanger, and auto kdj.  All you need is to buy the songs, and the computer terminals. hook them up in  anetwork and it will do what unify will do. the player computer needs the extra power and a modern operating system but the terminals can be old units running win98SE. Unify looks like it won't work with zip files which allows you to allow you to fit more songs on a hard drive. better to go with my suggestion.

Danny, this guy is using mostly video based karaoke, will Win amp cdg plug in work?
I use video based karaoke and when I use Winamp I just pan the wav to cut the vox since they are mostly multiplex.

you might have to find a dvd to mpeg or avi program to even get it  to work with dvds.
last I heard unify only roked with vcd and cdgs.
CDg has the most songs available.

Is there any other software around that looks like Unify's? From all the sites I have seen, it seems to be the only one that resembles most of that of a karaoke lounge.

I am using a Plextor Convertx to put the laser disc videos on a Hard Drive.   They are converted to Mp3 files.   I think it takes two files, one for video and one for audio.    It does them both at once.    Sax and Dotty plays them just fine.    I'm not sure how you would put a dvd on the HD.    I don't know if Sax and Dotty will play dvd files.   Or if they would need converted.    Aren't the Dvd files already digitised?   This is why I have a computer geek on the payroll.

depending on the ripping software, dvds can be ripped to mpg, mpeg, avi, or whatever...

If you want to save space convert them all to divx. Igot 4600 songs in avi/divx and it all comes out to about 24 gigs. play em with media player.
