I've enjoyed reading through the archives and have noticed that everyone seems to have various "rules" under which they conduct their shows.

Whether it's "sing one, bring one" or not allowing the same song to be sung twice in the same night, it's what makes our shows unique, entertaining and (hopefully) civil and organized.

What are your "rules"?

*Please turn in one request at a time.  When you SING ONE, BRING ONE.  This will keep your place in the next rotation.  If you do not turn in a slip before the start of the next rotation, you may miss your turn & will have to wait another round.  Sorry, duets WILL COUNT as one turn for each singer.
*Once a song has been sung, it may not be repeated for the rest of the evening.
*New singers will have priority their first time up.  They will be mixed in with the old singers 1 old, 1 new.  Once a new singer sings, they will wait their turn like everyone else.
*Anyone discovered submitting slips under a different name to "Defeat" the rotation will be removed from the rotation & not allowed to sing for the rest of the night!
*Please be courteous to all performers.  Please applaud after each & every singer before & after their performance.
*Rudeness will not be tolerated!  Give the same respect to performers as you would like to see for yourself.  To get up & sing in front of people can be very intimidating if the crowd isn't encouraging.
*Please do not use obscene language over the microphone.  You will be asked to leave the stage.
*Please do not swing the microphone by the cord.  Not only is it bad for the cord, but the microphone could fly off & hit someone.
*If a dance floor is available, make full use of it.  There are many varieties of dance music on karaoke.  We will occasionally put some dance music in if we get enough requests for it.
*At times a rotation may get a little long.  PLEASE BE PATIENT.  Your turn will eventually come.

The most important thing to remember is we are all out to have fun.  Either singing or just listening, please support the club you are in.  Coffee, Water, & Soda do not pay for the cost of ALLOWING YOU to sing at their establishment.  If you do not drink, try a virgin drink or order a food dish (when available).  PLEASE show your appreciation of your servers.
Remember if your favorite karaoke club does not make money, they will not continue the service for you to enjoy!!

Not many rules for me and my show.

No drinks by the equipment.  Use the provided drink holder on the TV stand.

Don't abuse my equipment, espically swinging the mics. Break my stuff and YOU pay for it.

If a song has been sung, I will ask you to pick a differnet one.  IF you REALLY want to do it, I might sneak it in in a hour or so.

And the most important rule....
HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!!!

I have a list a rules printed in the front of my books, but I won't list them all here, they're pretty much the basics.  But there are a couple of rules that I'm strict about, and voice them on a regular basis:

1. Don't harass or heckle my singers (It's an on-going joke, that my little 5'2" self doesn't have a problem kicking someone's butt who messes with my singers. Respecting my singers is top priority!)
2. Absolutley no horseplay around my equipment. Since my equipment is near the dance floor, anyone who gets carried away around my equipment will not be allowed back on the dance floor.
3. Take care of your bar maid. (she tells me she makes better tips on karaoke night than on band night, which blows my mind!)

i feel the NO singing of the same song all night is tuff,  u take the time to fill out the slip then get up to finf out u can't sing it,  then u have to find ANOTHER song to sing?
way to many rules....i feel if i'm being honest that listenimg to 5 really bad singer straight in a row is MUCH worst then singing the same song someone else sang 4 hrs ago...i do understand NOT singing the same song in say a 1 hr. period...but any longer then that i don't see the point....
if i came there scared and my first time to sing and i only knew 1 song and it took all my guts to get up there thennnn to be told sorry that song was sung just 2 hrs ago....that would end my singing....JMO

Almost identical to Lonman except, about repeats.    I joke about playing the same song all night, because it pays the same.

3/4"' high letters.    Abuse of our equipment will not be tolerated and may result in a trip to the magistrate on vandalism charges.

Don't take the mikes into the restrooms.   { Sanitary reasons. }

Use the same name all night.   {I may look stupid, but it's just a disguise.     Although, yours looks real.}    :hi5:    { They can turn in twenty slips at a time, they just go to the bottom of their pile, in the rotation.}

Rotation fairness explanation.     { Can never say enough about the rotation.}

Do not assume anyone wants you to help them sing their song.   If they want help, they'll ask.   { Nothing upsets a singer more than having someone howling off key in their ear.}

Please, No stupid $600 Microphone tricks.   No banging, throwing, thumping and no pointing them at the speakers.    {Some people really are jerks, mixed with a helping of alcohol.}   Aren't you glad I don't drink????     LMAO

heheheh yeah, you're the MODEL of tolerance! LOL!

HOWEVER, I totally identify with what you're saying. ANY abuse of the mic is grounds for me takin' it away from you and beatin' the singer with the mic stand! lol

I won't play the same song in one night in respect to the first person who turned it in unless I see the first one take off after singing it or the first person is someone I know won't get upset if the repeating song is done better than them. The only other time I might repeat the song is if someone  heckles the singer. Then I force them to sing it. Trust me at the places I work at you don't get a new drink untill you take that challenge.

The same song will not be played on the same night.

You break a mic you're buying a new one.

1. No abuse to equipment .... you harm it.. you pay (and you are done singing).
2. NO beverages on or around the equipment.  Find someone you trust to hold your drink during your performance.
3. No unnecessary vulgar language.
4. No removal of clothing while performing (alcohol really does make some way too uninhibited..  :yes: )
5. You sing on a first come first served basis.  Your slips are added to the rotation as they are handed in.  Each round ends when all who have submitted slips for that round have sung.  No one will ever be added ahead of you, once you have an established slot in the rotation.  Some rounds will get long .... please be patient.
6. Always bring your song request for the next round with you when you are called to sing.  Failure to do so may result in missing your next turn (In other words, WE dont come looking for you).
7. No back to back appearances on stage.  If you are asked to do a duet with someone in addition to performing your solo selection... be sure you neither precede or follow the singer that has asked you to perform with them. (I also monitor this very closely).
8. Patronizing the bar with beverage and/or food purchases is EXPECTED.  Priority will always be given to singers who are supporting the venue.  Do all you can to KEEP Karaoke a weekly event at your favorite club.
9.  Tip your bartender or server... they work hard to keep you happy.
11.  Do not get on the stage if you're name is not on the slip.  If you do so ... you will be asked to move .. (or if necessary...escorted off/out of the venue).
12.  Do NOT heckle singers.  We all are here for fun.  Hecklers will not be allowed to sing ... and the KJ may ask that you be removed from the venue.
13.  Direct all your questions and submit your song selection slips to the KJ's helper.  Be sure all names of singers are included on the slip, as only those named on the slip will be allowed on the stage.
14.  If you bring your own CD-G's to the show, they must be in a hard case, clearly labeled with your name and CLEAN.  Scratched or dirty discs will not be played.
15. No song may be sung twice in back-to-back rotations.  If you or someone you are with wishes to sing a song that has already been sung, you must skip a round before submitting that request.  Check with the KJ's assistant to find out if a song has already been sung.
16. Feel free to sing along from your seats ... or dance.  ENJOY other's performances.

Unless we request you too -  LMAO

More....
* Don't join someone on stage unless your name is on the slip.

* When singing duets one person loses their turn.

* The rotation stays the same for everyone - I will not move you up because you have to leave, someone wants to hear you sing or you are a good begger!

* If you get caught using a different name to defeat the rotation you will loose your turn.

LMAO This reminds me of the time I had a woman take her top off
at karaoke. I went and got the bar owner to kick her out and as I was walking back to the stage he followed me. He walked right passed her. He said " where is she?"
I said "Turn around, she is the woman with her shirt Off!"  she had her arms up in the air with her shirt around her neck - stuck in that position. Her boobs were flying around like slinkies.  LMAO  I still tease him about being blind to naked woman with flying slinkies.

Why the rule "one song at a time"?
If there is a rotation and a persone give u his 4 songs..why not stack them up?

I'm not criticizing the rule..just wondering.

Some people can't handle the pressure of more than one slip at a time.   I'll stack 'em to the ceiling.     LMAO     I tell people if you're going to fill out a bunch of individual slips, just turn it over and write a list down the back.   I'll keep track of what you sing.
