I'd go again, but fool that I am, I got convinced into initiating last friday, when I told the story about the Stick shift, and wankl engine. I also ended up going first monday morning, AND monday night regarding the clogs story, and yogurt. Wednesday it was your turn Jeanne, but I just had ONE thing I thought was too cute not to share so I went first wednesday morning, noon, and the thread got a bit off-topic as I got sidetracked and shared the story with you she told me about the paskistani milkman with the goat... I'd rather one of you girls start this time because, contrary to what some might think. I'm not one to gossip !

Charmin. You still have those neon yellow Umbro denim long baggy shorts you wore last memorial day at that greased pig wrestling barbecue at Pete's Bar and Church ?

Oh man, I just found a no no. A kid has material posted as his, and his recordings are using Lyle Rongliens "Guitar Riff.com" backing tracks. Some kid from Finland. That's almost as bad as what Hendrix did with a few of my compositions !

And hey, I had left my hot pink g-string undies with you to be washed as well!! You SAID you'd give the BACK!!! (oh, and I have your snake skin ones still I guess, sorry......)
Guess we're even there buddy. You return mine, and I'll return yours. :D

Are those the double-knit stretch polyester button down hiphuggers ? No wonder I can't find them anywhere. I turned my Peter Max black Light poster collection underneath the Quiana nylon disco shirts into total disarray looking for those pants. I need the pewter neckchain and medallion I left in the pocket with the powder blue faux-leather lined flaps and white stitching.. The Lanyard with my whistle should also be in those pants too. Is my "I like Ike" button still on the white rope belt ?
Incidently, if they vote McCarthy in, we'll end up having to go to school on Saturdays :(

Sorry.. but the curiosity is killng me.... Inquiring minds want to know. If you have to kill me, if you tell ... then just don't worry about it... I can handle the curiosity .... but it's a strange looking "something" ... :drunk:

I'd worry if Elliot DID NOT have a vibrato because I'd know he's not using his voice properly. Personally I feel he's the best.

Yeah, Elliot and Lisa won in my opinion. Yet not many teenagers would readily pick up on Elliot's skill in a genre we like. He really could nail the standards, and I was impressed by his work on the Bacharach medley. He really has a keen ear, and is obviously very talented and versatile. The younger kids unfortuneately wouldn't pick out Elliot's musical sophistication as readily of those of us that grew up during a time when jazz standards, blues tunes, Big Band sounds, and showtunes were commonly heard, while we can appreciate the more difficult jazz-type arrangements (such as Elliot's original song last Wednesday), Most youngsters wouldn't be quite as impressed. They unfortuneately might find Elliot boring. Elliot would be dynamite on Broadway.

Everyone behaving in here?......... Okay, just checking.
Phil graciously handed me the position of "smartazz patrol"..... so I gotta keep my eyes open in these threads!!
Quote: Odie .... what is that in your avatar picture? haha..... You know what Cindy, I've seen that photo full size, so I know what it is, but when he first put it there, I had to yank on my memory chain to recall what it was.... now it's clear to me.... but I'm sure not to others. (Odie, ya need to darken that photo a bit, so the contrast outlines it better!!) Anyhow, it's a little girl asleep with her head on a foot stool of sorts, and a big white cat sitting on the footstool looking down at her. (his grandchild I beleive..... haha, the little girl..... not the cat) Cute pic, IF you know what you're looking at. Steven, I thought I mentioned...... I did find those things, but I had to trade it off for some, uh...... we'll say "stuff"..... you recall what those '70's were like. Heck, everybody was doing it, and I had my needs too. Got quite a few oz. of the good stuff for that medallion. Ah, the memories!!.......

You're right Cindy it is an animal head superimposed on a human body!
No, Charmin had it right. It's a picture of my ex-step-grand daughter (man that's complicated) who fell asleep at her little table and Odie is half asleep too looking down at her. At this picture size, Odie's tail is cropped off too much and he blends in too much with the wall. So it is hard to figure out if you don't know what you're supposed to be seeing. Time to go back to the other pic.

I agree with Steve. Elliot was just TOO "good" for that type of format. I think he appeals to an older audience. I just think the world of that kid!

Elliot was growing on me towards the end. He slowed down his vibrato quite a bit. I don't know if that was because they have vocal coaches or he made the change himself. I did notice they fixed his teeth.

Michael, Did you hear the sophistication of his Jazz number he's done on his CD last week ? That was no easy number. I was quite impressed by his ear, and hearing his obvious ability to scat sing jazz venue.... That wasn't lost on me...
Yet I'm sure some of the 15 and 17 year old kids were saying to themselves....
"What's this guy doing" Too bad too, because I can see the guy on broadway with a hat and cane...doing one of the old Dean Martin, Sammy Davis type skits..Singing along side Sinatra...I'll bet he can dance too.... Likely has done amateur acting roles.... He just has that Rat pack type aura IMO. So, while I'm certainly not degrading anyone elses taste, or opinion on "who's what", because after-all, I do recognise this as subjective opinion... Elliot just got ALOT of bonus points from me for over-all musical talent and level of sophistication.
I also need to hear more of Marissa, and Lisa.. They really shined out IMO with their ability to nail R&B, or the female Motown/Soul genre.. I think it'd be very sad if all that impeded them from making it closer to final two was weight or age... I don't care if Lisa was only 15 or 16... The girl has talent and is excellent IMO.... I'd like to hear more of marissa <SP> too.... I heard two songs and was impressed by her potential and "feel' as well as ability in the female R&B genre... I heard from a few when she was nervous, she did sound abit more constricted vocally... But IMO... if the skill and talent are there, confidence can be built by a good producer, coach, manager...etc.. These aren't seasoned veteran stage singers... They are up and coming.. Just need a break... Over-all, I was impressed by most of the finalists... Elliot and Lisa were the top Male and female two IMO.
Here's something I'm curious about... We hear talk about stage presence, and "Who's hot" etc... My experiment when listening to these younger less experienced singers is to listen musically, and NOT look at them.. I don't wish to be bluffed by appearance or stage presence... I like to just HEAR who sounds the best without the distractions of stage presence, appearance, etc... Sure that's important to many.... but in music....I first and foremost want to HEAR them without bluff of stage presence... I'm curious if NOONE could see these kids, but just HEAR them, how the voting would turn out

Quote: They both are terrible.
.. Would you care to share with a few of us what constitutes "terrible" ? If you think any of these finalists were "terrible", I need to spend more time looking up the definitions of terms (I've obviously forgotten the actual meaning of since school years ago). When I learned the english language, I was taught that the word "terrible" is a synonym for something that's really dreadful. Unless over the years some new definition has evolved like "bad" meaning good in Ebonics.... I need to relearn my adjectives. I must've forgotten what the term "terrible" means..
Or perhaps I'm deaf and my standards have become extremely low :( I think I'll study more ear training so I have the ability to recognise how "terrible" the finalists are too !!! I feel so mainstream feeling they all were quite good. So average and superficial (remember, we weren't hearing these kids in a venue such as Singer's Showcase where they could redo, tweak settings, and edit songs all day if they so choose..These were live stage takes, that must be considered)
What I thought might've been "terrible" were the acoustics of the auditorium these people were singing in.. The sound of ALL of them despite how amazing they'd be under optimal conditions left alot to be desired... Singing in a large high-ceiling venue such as that makes it tougher for them to really "shine".. The sound system and televised result WE heard IMO was terrible... The individuals were excellent ! All of them... It really just got to who WASN'T AS good for styles of ones individual preference... If I wanted an all-around lounge singer, I'd have gone with Elliot or Kat, or Lisa.... If I wanted a 70's rock cover vocalist I'd have gone with Taylor.. If I wanted an 80's-90's rock ballad singer I'd have gone with Chris... For Popular, show, or versatility Elliot, Lisa, Marissa & Kat would ALL be great front singers in a band... For Male/Female duo..... Elliot, Taylor, Kat, Marissa... Lisa might be abit too strong a vocalist alone... but they ALL were excellent IMO... I'd be proud accompanying ANY of these kids playing Piano for them !!! Noone sounded "terrible" to me.. (well, none of the kids did, can't say as much for a few of the "pro's" who are now old farts like me), thing is....The sound system and manner in which we heard them sing DID NOT do them justice...These kids were ALL talented.... I'm proud to know that such talent STILL exists in the world....God forbid if the finalists sounded like Courtney Love and that "Hung" kid In a studio I'd likely never recognise them anyway... They can ALL be made to sound as good, or better than Just about ANYONE in the industry today... These WERE talented finalists.. I have nothing negative in general to say about the judges picks, or the voting publics picks.. They picked from a fine group of finalists... ALL of them deserving of being in the finals IMHO... I suppose the way I see it, is whether the person is considered "Good Karaoke" singer or not... A talented vocalist is STILL a talented vocalist... If you are excellent singing Karaoke, you will also have the potential to be excellent singing with a band, or any live application.. Good singing is good singing....Assuming *in reality* you were an 8-9-10 rank :karaoke: singer ANY of we musicians would be proud to play behind you.
As to who is best ? Well, part of the fun is agreeing to disagree.. We are ALL ages, and upbringings, geographic locations etc... We'd never ALL agree on the same person assuming all competing are quite good..which was the case.
When does that "Dance Idol" show begin Now THAT looks like a fun show !!!
