Other than Hoster, what other PC software will allow us to play cd-g discs at our shows?

winamp makes a CDG plugin (not to be confused with the mp3+g karaoke plugin) that allows you to play the CDG in your CDG compatible cd-rom. I am not sure if I would want to use the PC cd-rom to play a disk at a show and pray it has no problems during playback, especially if I am using the same PC to run the show... doesn't take much to cause delays, hiccups or stutters in the music/graphics if you are multitasking on the PC at the same time... I guess if you are simply looking for a cheap alternative to avoid adding a single CDG player to play customer disks then it wouldn't be too bad... as long as it wasn't used often in that capacity... good luck...

Besides not all cdgs will play in the pc. example is a Sound Choice MediaCloq protected disc. While there have been successfull copies made of them, they still won't play off the disc through the PC. They used this protection on their custom discs as well while they were using it.

Most, if not all, of these software will let you play the CD-G discs "live", unless I am mistaken. I know that Karawin Pro version, for example, will let you play it live. You just need to check their web site and look at the features list.
I use Power CD-G Player Pro when I want to play live disc since I have not gone "digital" yet.
I hope this helps.

Why don't you add on a USB player? Plexwriter is the one I'm going to use. I don't know if it's going through Winamp. I'm using Sax & Dotty to run the plexwriter and the rest of the files. I don't know if winamp runs in the background of the Sax & Dotty, it might. Anyone else know?

I use Karawin Pro for direct reading and it's fine with most drive, don't really need a Plextor! Note that multisession disk can't be played, need to import first, i use CDG Ripper than I play it thru the HD!

Power Karaoke or something from Trycerasoft?
May I ask why not Hoster??? I guess I know the answer... Expensive, only imports to kma, very poor service, worst key changer, bad graphic resolution, I better stop, I can go on....

My experience only the cost and the ripping to KMA (which if you decide to stay with hoster really isn't a bad thing) might be accurate. The program itself isn't really a bad program. The times I have needed service for my other MTU prudcuts, MTU support has been there for me on what couldn't be solved by helpfull users of the forum. The key changer on hoster out of all the keychangers I have seen is the closest to the keychangers you found on the old pioneer mixer amplifiers, pretty good imho. I have messed around with keyrite,, which is where they got their algorythm from for the keychanger in hoster. Great program to take your home cdg's and change their keys so you don't have to go up to the disc based show host and keep telling them what key you want it in. If you got a bad graphics resolution, maybe the reader that imported the file was dirty or wasn't the plextor that works best with most cd+G rippers.

thanks danny saved me from havin' to jump in there LOL
I will say that you are very observant!
Bad imports come from using CD drives that are not compatible with the software and having damaged media or source disc to begin with. Certain Plextor Drives have always worked best with MTU's software. Other drives will work but not give optimal results. They are very up front with this on their site.

Probably surprised you that while I use a competitor's product that I would chime in and make the statements I made. I made them because they are true and to tell the truth if I had singers bringing in their discs, I might consider upgrading to the full hoster, but I have yet to see that even through the years of running from discs. Most were content with the selection I had and aside from requests for songs, which I took and if they A:were regulars enough at the show, B:were popular enough thay havong them would benefit me elsewhere, and C:did not contain more than three songs I already had, I would get the songs for them. I still have that policy. If I never saw you again after the request and the song didn't fit either of the later catagories, I would say forget it. right now I'm trying to figure out if I can use the songstation software I'm testing out with my present software or if I have to go back and use the Show running software I use to use (S&D) due to need of screen space for both programs. It's what I get since I am impatiently wqiting for KJAMP, which will have it's own song staion program built in with it. now if Hoster added this there would be no question as to what software I would use.
If questions of loyalty arise from this post: I ansering them now. I am loyal to whatever software will meet my needs PERIOD. If PCDJ comes out with an update that addresses them, I will change to them, If MTU addresses them I will change. I am beginning to think I might even be able to get the same result of changing over to S&D again through Hoster, so I might just buy the upgrade to Hoster Lite and test it that way.

Not sure what you mean by "It's own song station" please elaborate. Maybe I can help you.

I'm certain you have heard about Chip's Songfinder.
I am beta testing for another company basically the same type of program.
can't tell you more untill he gets his standalone version out. he already has his built in out though.
It seems to work perfectlly along side the original version of presenter but the host station looks better when placed over or under Hoster.
KJamp is going to have somthing like it for their player. But I am impatient and want to have it up and running by AUgust but don't know the time table for KJamp so for right now I am going to upgrade hosterlite to the latest version so I can get the search enigne changes that I commented on on their site and use the database created by my songstation form the mp3+G's on my external hard drive, which I am going to upgrade both of my internal drives and the externals to be able to fit allof my songs.

That other company of which Danny speaks is just little me, and the software is Sacks-O-Nuts ShowHoster. (Shameless Plug) the "Song Station" or as I call it the "Kiosk feature" seems to be working and has been out for a coupla of days with no disasters reported.
Essentially the kiosk(s) are remote computers with your song lists by artist and title. The singer enters their requests on the remote computer(s) and that data is transmitted to Sacks-O-Nuts and entered into the rotation. If you are using the auto-sort feature the KJ doesn't have to touch the rotation at all. Under $30.00 for the whole thing. If you download a demo make sure it is version 2.1

ahh ok now I know what you are referring to. Yes I'm in the process of using this system for my private parties as it saves on extra books and song slips. It works seamlessly with MTU's Hoster. Not set up yet just now buying used laptop and cables.
Did not know there was another software out there other than Chip's
Thanks Danny

I have a choice go with my buddy's software or upgrade hoster same cost but my biggest loss with not going hoster is the keychanger and multiplex.
my biggest gain is the songs go from singer's station to the que with auto rotation built in so that no singer is singing back to back unless I have zero singers.
I wouldn't be able to do this with hoster as the standalone no matter what karaoke software won't interact with the software but I would still have to do the search for song on the show computer after receiving the request.

you may want to talk with chip and mike before you take a leap. I'm not completely understanding your verbiage and they will. I just know that it works great with hoster it will do everything that I want for sure. as for 2 singers in a row that would not happen with chips program. Unless they were using a different name

my buddy has two different versions of the station thing- one a stand alone version to work alongside another parties software and one that is built into a hosting package.
The one that is built into the hosting package allows the singer to send their request in and as soon as the host clicks stop the songs fall into the que. the player has a simple autorotation feature to make it so that once you have more than one singer with songs in no two singers can have back to back songs.
does chips program allow your songs to drop into the hosting program's que without you have to retype the stuff over into the search engine of the hosting program?
That is what I would have to do with the standalone.
