:oh yeah: Oh yeah yippy hawhoee!  :oh yeah:

What a show!! I wasn't expecting all the celebs. Unbeleivable show!

Clay looks so different - He sounded so awesome - I wanted him to sing more.

Toni Braxton - what was she on?

Prince? Mary J. Blige? Holy moly

WOW! no let down here.

Yeah..... I didn't even recognize Clay at first! That was pretty cool how they brought him out! The Clay wannabe almost passed out! Then he seemed to want to keep singing.....  LOL as IF! And Toni Braxton? At first I thought her mic wasn't working... her lips were moving... but nothing seemed to be coming out. Yeah... she was not all there!  :drunk:

OK,  Here's my reKap..

Since I really have only watched two shows.. I wasn't familiar with the "other" finalists eliminated past shows... Yet this was a spectacular show IMHO.

Taylor did do a great job on "Levon", in the slightly higher tenor range his voice does shine, didn't watch last night, but I was told I should give a listen to hear what he really is capable of doing... still IMHO, I'd never have picked him to get even this far. I'm just not cut out to be a talent scout I suppose... but it's interesting how opinions and preferences differ, but that's what makes it so interesting. IMHO.... But congrat's to him anyway..He's certainly a likeable person.

First off, Dionne Warwick STUNK... (hate to say it.  but I had to let one loose)
I never realized how amazing a stunt singer Prince is... What a brilliant ALL around musician formerly known as (looking thru Wing Ding fonts)

The three I was most impressed with were Elliot, the larger black girl, but even more-so the taller girl that immediately followed her on the Bacharach arrangements who also (I believe) was the first girl to sing following Kat on "Natural woman", was that Lisa ?  Amazing timbre... That girl could SING ! She's only 16 ??  Was that Lisa who sang the first part following Kat on Natural woman ?  She was AMAZING !!! The other girl "Mandissa" ???? (larger girl) I've heard wasn't always as good as she sounded tonight, yet she really had talent...

My three favs were

Elliot
Girl singing first part AFTER Kat on "Natural Woman" <--excellent IMO
Mandissa ??  (Forgot her name, haven't heard her really)

I thought Kat choked tonight.. Still, I'm amazed Taylor won, I'd have picked either Elliot, or the taller black girl based on what I heard of them tonight.. Yet Taylor aint bad at all !  I'd just not've been shrewd enough to recognise him I suppose.

I'd have had Elliot and that girl who followed Kat singing natural woman in the final two... Show's what I know

Here's a thought.  (Not sure however).  Is it possible that Taylor has "his own" sound that some might find to be the most original when compared to the other finalists, that are conventionally VERY good singers, yet they have no true "core sound" of their own that's innovative ? Taylors not polished, yet he's "Taylor", and although he can cover certain other vocalists, he also has his own signature style that's not cliche sounding. Is it possible where some find him "A little rough around the edges" and not overly refined, or processed sounding, (Unlike a few other finalists that already sound like others in the industry and might be seen as cliche) that it's that aspect people like ?  The duet (was it with Braxton??) He did was spectacular.. He really was good in the m/f duet.. quite a natural.  THAT surprised me to be honest.

For all I know, maybe the industry recognizes that Taylor IS actually the most malleable.  He was dynamite in the duet !

Yep.. that was Mandissa. She was always great IMO. Aside from her last performance as a contestant... she sang a fluffy Shania Twain song and it went terribly wrong. Why she chose that song....  :dontknow:

Another performer I wasn't crazy about... Meat Loaf. I have always loved his voice :worship: ... but not tonight.

I think Taylor won people's hearts with his unique performance abilities. He always seems like he is throwing everything he's got into it! I prefer his slower songs. He's got a great bluesy voice. I don't find his voice really unique. But I do like him. Grey hair aside... he seems like an old soul.

OMG, this is wild.  I spot a split-second shot of a woodchuck last week, but I didn't see Meatloaf ?  I missed him, is that crazy or what ?  When did he sing?  Now I really feel foolish.  Yeah Sheree,  I thought Mandissa was pretty good, but who was the taller black girl that followed her on the Bacharach arrangments ?  I thought SHE was spectacular..  The one following Mandissa, but not the third or shorter girl... I didn't find her good..  The taller girl who sang immediately following Kat on Natural woman,  was that Lisa who I liked, I assume she was the same girl that sung the Bacharach song following Mandissa... ?

Pardon my confusion, but last week was the first time I ever watched Idol... So these folks were new to me.

Did anyone else notice that Dionne Warwick was singing with false teeth ?  LOL
<bad Kappy, nasty nasty nasty> and how terribly atonal her last improv run was ?

Ouch,  Simon refer's to Kat as having lost because "tonight she had a terrible song", and he accentuates terrible... That's got to sting whether she feels it herself or not, it's still raw.. It's done and over for her, way to twist the knife simon...Poor kid, She's good, had a bad song... To say "Tonight she had a terrible song" can't feel too good for her to hear. This is the problem with brutal honesty. Why tell her she sucked ?  If someone trips and get's hurt, why call them a clutz when they're down ?..  Yet I know,  it's real, and the way the industry works...but God, that remark must sting !  It's one thing to pick at a scab, but Simon doesn't even let the blood stop oozing before he pours salt into a wound. What a sweety he is  :(

and I see CCindy  LOL    Morning Cindy,  time for me to get some sleep.. I was supposed to do that over an hour ago, but I got bored,  so I'm still around

OK, I was out hearing some karaoke in Canby. I heard that Taylor won.  I'll have to check the Wednesday show because it was apparently a great show.  I  still think Katherine is a better overall singer, but I don't have any problems at all with Taylor winning.

Meatloaf sang a duet with Kat early in the show...

Yes... that was Lisa Tucker who sang after Kat on Natural Woman.. a local Orange County girl. She also sang Alfie. I believe she is only 16 or 17 years old.

G'night Steven..

Wellllll..... Adult contemporary/pop-soul this year, huh?  Guess they have to try every niche ... Taylor DID a great job on his victory song ... Do I Make You Proud ... but, hey the pressure was off.
I will say .. he did seem to be the stronger of the two tonight.

My personal reaction:

KAT
... Over the Rainbow ... and the Whitney Houston song.. were her SHOWCASE songs ... and she missed the boat on "shine" with the Black Horse and Cherry Tree song .... which may have been a little more uptempo and "soulful" ... but that wasn't her "strength".  She's a power ballads kinda gal ... and she should have stuck with the Whitney song in the finale ,,.. to emphasize it. DARN, did she nail that one!!  Would/will I follow her progess...maybe buy a CD ... YES... I think she's one talented gal.

TAYLOR
... made better choices with the songs he used to "shine".... and they worked for him.  Once he had Simon in his pocket.. it was a done deal.. IMO.  He's talented, yes... but I must say he never "won" me ... till he sang his winnng song.  Will I follow his progess... maybe buy a CD... NO.  He's just not my cup of tea... But I AM happy for him.  He obviously LOVES to perform ... and I hope he has loads of success.

So... who SHOULD have won? ... hmmmmm..... IF the slate was wiped clean and all was based on the final two nights...... it went to the better overall performer for those performances ... BUT ... if it was based on the entire season of performances... HANDS DOWN ... KAT is a better SINGER than Taylor.  But.. as Sheree has pointed out (HI SHEREE!!!)  ... Taylor had more charisma ... and add that to the final two shows (and Simon's endorsement) ... and you have yourself the winner.

I agree, Steve... Elliot and Mandissa, IMO ... had LOADS of talent ... I liked them both a lot!!   And... GOOD MORNING TO YA!!  Now ... GO TO BED .. hehehe!!

COFFEE TIME ..... For CCindy!!!  I can smell it brewing!!

Right,  I think Honolulu is 6 hours difference.  About the same distance West of me, as Athens Greece is East... About the only thing I recall from the plane ride to europe.  I was doped up pretty good  LMAO

Yep SHeree.  That Lisa was GOOD !!!  Did she mess up badly earlier in the season ?  or didn't most find her that much more talented than others that progressed further towards the finals.

I'm almost all packed,  and I'm going to follow him around while he tours.  Not that I'm the fanatic type or anything.  I want to find that woodchuck !

CCindy,  I thought Mandissa was spectacular too, but I need to hear some of her songs, while I heard once she warms up she's fabulous (and just based on the very little I heard her sing she ranked well within the top 3),  I also heard that when she's a bit nervous she sounds constricted, and doesn't focus on pitch matching closely enough.... Again,  Not my own observation, but a very trustworthy source. In her case (again secondhand) might just be a matter of nervousness, and nothing substantial.  She sounded excellent to me.  My own feelings are

Lisa and Elliot are both spectacular
Mandissa follows.

I didn't feel any others were in their league in terms of level of brilliance.  Those three to me were spectacular.  The others were good, but to me, not of the same caliber. In fact as I stated,  I never saw them before, My assumption was these were pro's in the industry that came out to make an appearance just like Braxton, Warwick,etc..  I didn't know they were other finalists that never made the final two... First thing I said after hearing the handoff of natural woman from Kat to Lisa, was Damn.... She's one of the pro's !!! Lisa stood out IMO, her voice timbre for that song was dead on.. Yet for all I know, she might not've done well earlier in the season...  Of course I am biased towards styles I'm more familiar with,  in terms of R&B, and contemporary I grew up listening to, I found these three outstanding  ! Kat was 4th... Chris 5th... Woody 6th, and Taylor 7th

Taylor, Lisa, and Mandessa breezed thru the Bacharach medley !  There skill and adaptability showed in how they handled that segment in addition to doing "their own" prefered styles.. This might sound crazy, but I thought Lisa was the best singer tonight.  Prince can do some amazing things with his voice too of course... Sing low like "Sly",  Sing falsetto like noones business... and all sorts of funny stuff in between..  Too bad he didn't comb his hair over the puss of his   LMAO   That WAS scary !

Well, I've gone to the AI site... and listened to everyone from the top 12.  Yes.... LISA ... has an amazing voice.  From what I heard others saying (lunch table talk, karaoke show chatter) ... I guess the judges felt she was just a bit too young ... and was choosing songs that were "too old" for her????  My guess.. she MAY be back in a few seasons ... IF the show is still going strong.  If she'd been 19-21, I agree .. she'd of been hard to beat, considering what I've heard of her VOCALS only.  NO IDEA what she has in the crowd appeal/personality area.

As I said.. I too began watching when it only when it got down to the final 3 ... 'cause usually at this point ... they HAVE narrowed it down to some pretty talented singers/entertainers.  I DESPISE the early weeks... which in my opinion.. are good only for humiliation .... But... once they've gotten it to twelve... I will WATCH a show or two ... just to see what the level of talent is for that year... then not again ... (except for a clip or two of a performance, if I hear a lot of "talk" about it) ... till its down to three.  I was SHOCKED when Elliot was eliminated over Taylor... but again... if it's based on an entire season of performances... then maybe that was called for... but, if it was SINGING skills that were being judged... Elliot had it, for sure.  I would never have picked Taylor as the ultimate winner either ... but.... more power to him for having the 'stay power' ... and maybe you right.. maybe he's what the industry is looking for right now.  Who knows.  Time will tell what happens .. in terms of 'success' ... So far... Clarkson, Aiken and Underwood are standing the test of time.  We shall see what happens with this year's winner.  But.. i'll go out on a limb here... and say that KAT will likely have a hit song or two ..... and we'll hear from HER more than Taylor.... much like the Clay Aiken scenerio .... who was also a runner-up.

Anyway ... Gosh my coffee is good.  Anyone care for a cup???

or is it that at 16 it'd be tough to hold her to a contract. She can't legally sign one anyway, she's a minor. Think about it.  Her voice alone might've won her the season, but her age might've concerned AI Atty's for two reasons.  Once in the industry, she's too immature to understand what she's in-for and likely have given this enough foresight to hang in when the going get's really tough.  She's just a kid.
As a result, Assuming her guardian signs on her behalf, it'd be quite easy for her to hire an Atty, who can get her out've this. It's all fun and games until you win    Then you are part of the traveling circus..  I wonder if it has anything to do with her ability at all.. Just her young age. Has someone under 17 or 18 ever won the finals of AI ? Would that mean a guardian would have to tour with her ?  Maybe her mom changed her mind.. Schooling while on the road ?  Might be she's just too dang young... But wow.... what talent !
