I thought they were all very good Jeanne. Because of the style she was doing, at the very onset I was waiting for her to get the "raunch" in her voice needed for that style, and she tastefully nailed things IMHO. Unfortuneately since this was really my first time watching that show, I was trying to take in so much, including God know's how many Mayors I wouldn't have been able to anticipate who'd have won based on talent, They ALL had alot of talent.. What I heard on my TV doesn't do alot of it justice either. They all seemed to have the ability to be quite versatile..Yet I don't know.. They all did what they did quite well. I only heard her sing her one song, but it was quite impressive. Quite honestly I enjoyed all of their talent, and I wish the show was more of THAT... If I had to venture a guess, My thought's are that both Katherine, and Elliot were more tasteful with their use of dynamics (yet Elliot IMHO could use a little more control on that vibrato of his IMHO, Too fast, just too much intensity. He needs to break into it more subtly, and fade out of it more tastefully. While that type vibrato is impressive for a child, or some PAST styles, it's passe IMHO, yet even this is subjective)... Yet Elliot has an excellent ear, and considering the complexity of what he was doing, he won my respect. That wasn't easy, and his pitch was excellent. I thought he was more professional sounding than Taylor, (Not sure that song did Taylor as much justice as he believed it would solely based on his voice timbre)... When you are that close to the original vocalist in style, you also put your neck on a chopping block, you are up against pretty stiff competition.. Wasn't a good idea IMHO....Wasn't prudent at that juncture (Making G Sr Bush hand signal)... But I don't have the advantage of hearing them perform second times...So it's not a fair assessment on my part. Maybe a different song or style Taylor would've sounded better in ???
Oh, Did you catch that big Woodchuck sitting on the shoulder of the By-stander !!
That was my favorite part !! (Have I mentioned that yet LOL )
To be honest, I thought Katherine was a natural in terms of her musicianship, as well as stage presence... She seemed to be the biggest "Ham" eating up being on stage... ... She loved the attention. You could tell...
Honestly, just as a performer, she seemed to be most at ease performing, She appeared to be the best performer out've all of them. That has NOTHING to do with her being female. Taylor, and Elliot had talent, but their stage presence was lacking IMHO... The girl seemed to get into it more, and let loose, it was more natural for her... she also blended with those around her more, I think Paula Abdula ate that up too... She'd easily be a huge hit among most crowds.... Based on her natural presence as a performer/singer... I guess she had that "Diva" thing going...
I wouldn't have known who to pick between her and ELliot to be honest.. Not from what I just saw last night.. However I'd have picked either Elliot for complexity, and musicianship in a different Jazz type genre, or her just for being all around VERY good !
Now had Taylor done a song that *I* felt he could've gotten away with singing more lazily such as "It keep's you running", It'd be a three way tie for me.. He did a relatively easy song, and he didn't nail it...Yet he has potential..
These kids would've all done quite well probably... Just in different settings..
Yet as Billy mentioned, Taylor's type thing has been done and done... and he doesn't do what he does well enough to blow away the older Doobie Bros loving crowd... (Folks like myself LOL ), If he is going to do M McDonald, DO NOT mess up dynamics, and slack on timing....No matter HOW close your timbre is. JMO
Between the two finalists, unless Taylor does a Knockout "10" rendition of some song next week, I'd vote for Katherine, she's just more natural, natural talent, so unless she chokes, (does some Tracy Chapman song), I think she's more talented... Yet maybe NOT more trainable ???? Although doesn't Taylor also have a decent head voice for R&B type stuff ? I caught bit's and pieces of something last week... He seemed to have a decent voice too...or was that Elliot who did that ?

I need to find a clip of Chris, and see if I can anticipate why he might've not made the final cut. From what many are saying. I wonder if he actually WAS voted
out
Folks, I just went into this site to try to do head-to-heads
http://downloads.americanidol.com/genre ... 91&type=14
Here's my opinion... Just how I'd have predicted had I not known...
(keep in mind I've only heard short clips, who know's, they might've choked the rest of the song, and really blown it to hell. I don't know)
Top two
Elliot, and Kathryn (both excellent) Kathryn is going to win, she can nail
styles that are more popular today..
(Not sure why Elliot was eliminated)
Kathryn can do A LOT, mellow, country
and R&B.
Chris Excellent stage presence. but when you
don't look at him, he's a ballad rock singer.
He's pretty good, in a genre where
what he's doing has been done,
and is currently being done better.
(sorry, he's a dime a dozen, the style
he can sing is done and past. Not innovative
As much as I LOVE IT.... Hard Rock, ballad
and that style aren't up and coming, he's
good, but what can he add ?) Ten years ago
maybe.
3rd) Taylor (I have no idea how he made it this far, I'd
have voted him out awhile back, "Easy" was
good however, he's a decent cover singer,
his pitch matching leaves a bit to be desired,
his ear wasn't that great compared to the
the others. He has the "Timbre" to mimic,
but that's all). He's a bit sloppy all around
Kathryn will win, sheer energy, ability to belt country as well as R&B, soul, and her power.... She's GOOD, yet can do mellow well. .. Plus she's quite charismatic !! Not saying she's "attractive". I'm saying she radiates energy
realistically she's the most versatile, in terms of how many genre's she can do well !!
Yet Elliot does really nice versions of lounge songs, popular, and Jazz are his thing, He didn't do a horrid rendition of Somebody to love, Heaven was very good, if he was better looking, or more charismatic, it would have added ALOT to his ratings..Unfortuneately he's not "hot", his stage presence isn't the greatest, it's ashame, the guy can do ALOT.... .. Unfortuneately many don't appreciate his conventionally good singing in the "pop" genre, he doesn't sell the overall package of "what it takes", his voice alone is really good, but innovative, nope....Still, he'd be a decent frontman for many coverbands, or lounge singer.. My guess is if the average age listener was 20 years older, Elliot would've hung in. He's got the Harry Connick style going when he wants, and he's good... I think Elliot does what he does well, Yet Kathryn is powerful, and probably able to hit R&B, and country..Why they kept Taylor, I haven't a clue, yet he sounded pretty darn good doing the Commodore's "Easy" yet that's about it IMHO.. Still, he's sort've oafy looking onstage... Nice guy, likeable guy, but sort've a clutzy looking guy
NO WAY, Kathryn can lose....She'll win ~
[strike]If Taylor wins, all that means is Clive Davis is getting some from his mom[/strike]

Individually wrapped bite sized portions are best. That way the squirrels are assured the fresh food. Plus the squirrel that is concerned about his or her weight won't be as tempted to just grab a paw full and swallow it all down at once.

Steven, you definitely are hooked on the AI now. See, even intelligent professional musicians can get sucked into this whole deal!
I think Kat, Taylor and Elliot in the hands have a great producer could put out
a high quality CD. I had forgotten about Star Search from the 80's. AI really isn't anything new! It's more extravagant and hyped up but is there that much of a difference?

Yeah Don, Let the parents online for a few minutes, and look what happens :(
I think you are correct Don. Maybe the industry has ideas for Taylor we haven't a clue about. Maybe they think he's the most trainable. One never knows.

I'd say Taylor is more like Joe Cocker than McDonald. I've also compared his voice somewhat to that of McDonald. But his wild stage antics are definately inspired by Cocker! No doubt. Taylor will have success as a soul artist IMO. I don't care who wins the show. I still believe Taylor is the best performer this season. Quite frankly the pop stuff bores me to tears! I guess i'm an old soul which is why im so high on Taylor. It's been a really fun season either way.

What I enjoyed about Starsearch was some of these youngsters. They had infants, only 4 days old crooning Sinatra, Alot of young'uns on StarSearch. They even had Planaria singing duets. Ear mites singing glee club arrangements. It was quite a show, Hard to forget !
In all seriousness, I did enjoy Starsearch. There was alot more musical competition, and less hyping the contestants. It seemed to be a more "down to earth" show. I liked the way Ed McMahon delt with the kids too.

I finally got to watch the results show last night.
Wow did Taylor get the welcome or what. I kind of felt bad for Katherine
after seeing Taylor's welcome home.

heck yeah we have squirrels (grey and brown), coyotes, deer, fox, raccoons, possom, and rabbits. I live in the suburbs. We have lots of forest preserves. We even have a band of wild cats. What I find strange is I see more coyotes here than when I lived in the country.
I'm afraid if I feed the squirrels I will get more. My neighbor had to spend a lot of money to get them out of his attic.

Nah, Starsearch did have a few 10-13 year olds that were amazing however. It was an enjoyable show. I used to watch it in the mid-1980's

What are you thinking ? How many male Squirrel's have you ever actually seen in Weight Watchers ? Let's not make such general assumptions !

You're right Steven, it mainly is the females that are worried about keeping their squirrelish figures.
