I know it is a sad thing when a post dies that way. But it is okay it will always
be remembered in our hearts and minds. Let's all bow our heads and have a moment of silence for all posts that are terminated before their time. Let us make new posts in honor of the old ones. I know this was a significant loss to many, but we will brave our ways foward and remember "Single and Miserable" post forever.

Wow, my post is going to be immortalized even though it's no longer here. I don't even remember half of the post on that thread. I thought it was interesting though. RIP Why did they choose that particular post to put their unwanted ad anyways? Oh well.

Eben,  I guess another thread was hit as well with similar Spam, likely the same inidividual because he was lingering here quite some time,  I suppose he changed names though.. I heard about it via PM,  I never actually saw it.  That must've happened after 5AM my eastern time.

It wasn't something I said was it? I don't think I've been in that thread lately.... I just know I say entirely too much sometimes, and I'm surprised some threads are still around and thriving. I'd hate to be the big mouth that got one taken away though, when it was someone else's thread.


And.... what the heck is THIS thread about anyhow? It looks terribly funny- and confusing- seeing Steven's opening post up there.  LOL

Eben,  Actually if it was your "Single and hating it" thread, that was an interesting and civil thread.  I suppose up until someone decided it was an appropriate thread to layer Spam onto  :(


Jian,  When I'm even more bored (than I usually am) I'll check out some of those pages, and see what I can find. I doubt administration has the time to filter thru alot of what's already there yet seemingly remaining inactive.  I'll try to locate probs, and make it easier for the mods, and administration... At least that way I'm contributing something to the site besides my incessant yacking  LOL

Aren't most,  these spammers pick temporary names, even domains, hit and run..  Most that joined a few days ago no longer exist ?

So what doesn't make sense is why is this thread still up except for the initial bad taste post, but Eben's entire long thread is gone because of the one bad post at the very bottom?  It doesn't add up.  They should have taken this entire post down and just removed the one offensive post from Eben's thread!  Oh well!

Strange, the way I look at it. I did not expect this thread to last more than my first post here yet Eban's thread is gone because of one spammer. THAT post alone should be removed not the whole thread.

It takes me less than 10 min to go thru all those list. If those members are not remove from the membership list they will keep on coming. I have check other karaoke sites and only one was infected by those porn paddlers but was quickly corrected.

Don,  I think it's a matter of limited time on the parts of administration and mods. Such as my thread that was pulled,  I guess they can't study each and every post in a questionable thread title, or a thread that MIGHT offend someone (for reason's not apparent to us)..

Often the whole thread IS pulled, even when only one post appears to be a culprit;  Perhaps subject matter concerned the mods/administration and they didn't have the time to comb thru the content of Eben's thread.. OR maybe had they known the nature of the thread, and the fact that it all was tame (decent) up until early AM spamming, (assuming they had the time to read the whole thread), perhaps only one post would've dissapeared, and Eben's thread would remain, Not sure, but perhaps the thread can still be requested back less the Spam... (not sure if initial deletes or threads pulled wipes them out completely given the capabilities of the Administrators software).  Maybe THIS thread will be gone tomorrow too, but Phill wants everyone to know (in the interim) that he recognises this type spam is a problem, he has and will take care of future probs of this type, and is leaving this thread FOR NOW to let us know he recognises the problem, appreciates the "heads up", wants to be informed by us regarding these epsodes otherwise he'd have no way of knowing about these individual type episodes, but will address them whenever possible...

Just guesses..  Yet time permitting, the thought "better safe than sorry" likely goes thru their head...

Not sure what method of notification was used to point out the spam in Eben's thread, however when I notified Phill, I notified him regarding button on top of one particular post, AND PM (where I quoted the name of individual, and exact content in the post).  Had I said "The thread stating does anybody know", without specifics maybe the thread might've been pulled (assuming it was a long thread that couldn't easily be read by a mod to check regarding "specifics"), or even assuming Phill didn't want us all to see that he needs to be told about this by us..

For the most part we do have ALOT of freedom on this site (considering it's a site open to everyone, not an exclusive site formed by a friend for friends).  We are lucky not to have authority figures breathing down our backs.  In other stationary bboard type sites I've belonged to we aren't given this much freedom.  That's what I like about it in here.  I suppose in order to preserve this from possibly becoming a site moderated with an iron hand, as opposed to what it currently is, which is a place that runs pretty smoothly with mininal moderator intervention, we need to try to take care of some of these aspects on our own, just a guess, but I like the fact that we have in fact been given alot of leeway to have fun, and with a few exceptions the members seem to rectify petty probs without calling in help.  We aren't given constant pep talks, and castigated for each and every little thing. So many other sites are more like, "try not to get caught by the babysitter".. (I felt as tho I was a kid having to read under the covers with a flashlight, because mods were always telling us "lights out", "don't do this, don't say that"...etc...Going back to the days of 320 baud, (or was it 120 baud half duplex ?   dunno anymore). Even the mid-late 1970's at school, when everything was the language Basic..  This is pretty much self-sustained which is really nice IMHO... Especially considering the size of the membership base.
