I guess Cathryn had a little mishap with a button on her dress
last week. I saw when the slit opened up, but I didn't see anything.

Taylor Hicks was awesome last night. If he keeps bringing it like that
I think he has a chance for top 3. I laughed my butt off when he fell to the floor.

Cathryn's second song I think saved her. The 1st song was aweful.

Chris did okay, but I think his voice was shot. He screamed the high notes because I did't think he could hit them. Not because he can't, but because his voice is taking a beating.

Elliot did well, but I just don't like him. His voice does nothing for me.

Paris is awesome. She can sing anything.

When I think - who would I like to hear sing the kind of music I like after Idol is over. I think Chris, Cathyrn, and Paris. But Taylor is definately the most entertaining.

I hate to see any of them go they are all great. But from the internet polls, Paris is heading home tonight.

I find it a little hard to watch after watching Nashville Star. they are hands above American Idol. It may be my preference in music Genre's, But the singers on Nashville Star to me are  just better than idol's. Well, Last night was the last of this years nashville star, so I guess I 'll be watching idol more.

I saw that wardrobe failure, But I didnt think a lot about it. Actually I thought it was supposed to look like that.

This is by far the best batch of five this far into idol.  I honestly feel any of them deserve to take it all - but have a soft spot for Taylor who sings like me, or do I sing like him, well I guess I sing like him as I haven't been on TV singing, yet.

Filmed in a NYC documentary on karaoke in January of this year and signed a boatload of legal papers to be used in the final production release

I agree about Kathryn's first song being horrible. She definately found her saving grace in the second song. I really didn't like Elliot's first song either, but I love the second song he sang, and I think he really did awesome on it. I don't like Paris at all. She didn't hit her low notes on her second song. She has great range, but to me she doesn't have a "listenable" voice, as in I wouldn't listen to her on the radio, cd, etc. if she won. Chris is the only one that I think could be a star without changing his image, music genre, etc. He has the complete package. But his vocals on the second song weren't as hot as the first song. I think he's still safe though. Taylor comes off as a great Vegas performer to me, and honestly, he's not that original imho. There's a bunch of performers here in town that I've competed against that sing the exact same style he sings, move the same way he moves onstage, sound just like him, etc. And they play in Reno, Vegas, Tahoe... showroom performers. I'm voting for Chris. AND I'M SOOO HAPPY CHRIS WON LAST NIGHT ON NS!!! YEA!

strmbreez- I know you're right about Taylor. I need to come to my senses.
Your right the best singer should win. The likability factor keeps sneaking in on me.
Hands down Chris has the best recording voice. I'm not counting out Katherine yet though.

The Idol singers have a tougher time..they have to sing different genres each week...the Nashville singers sing Country each week...that makes them seem to be better singers. If they had to do some rock songs or blues etc, they would not sound as awesome IMHO.

And you know this how?   I disagree. I'm a country singer, I'll be trying out for Nashville Star this season and I can honestly say that I can kick butt in rock, blues, pop, oldies, etc. if I put my mind to it. No, I wont sing the songs the way the original artist sang them, but isn't that what's called being "unique" or "making the song yours?" What about the fact that the AI contestants only sing cover songs and the NS contestants have an "Original song" week? I can see how that's so much easier...
I was wondering, too, if you had heard of "Southern Rock" and "Bluegrass" ... yep, usually country genres that some of the NS contestants have performed quite well this season!

Well wait a minute Amanda, I know you could do a Stevie Wonder song. But do you really think Matt or even Chris Young could have done a Stevie Wonder song?  Isn't the audience expecting the singer to at least be in the ballpark of the original artist's style?

I think Elliot should have gone before Paris.

I don't know if Chris Young or Matt showed that they could sing Stevie, but I know that Casey showed he could, imo, when he sang "How Great Thou Art". You're right, a singer should be in the same general area of where the original artist was, but look at it this way. One of my most memorable performances on AI was "Walk the Line" by Chris Daughtry... and he didn't sing it anything like the original. Only his emotion was the same.

As far as the other theme weeks go, I think the NS contestants could successfully do them.

Themes:
*Stevie Wonder
*Hits from the 50's
*21st century
*Country
*Queen
*Rod Stewert
*Classic Love Songs
*Year they were born
*Top 10 Billiboard chart

Each week there are stronger contestants in the chosen genre and there are weaker contestants (for instance, Mandesa during country week.) It doesn't matter what the theme is, the contestants are picking songs that fit their voices, their style, and their fan base. I think I've seen Chris go off of his rocker side once, and that was with Keith Urban's song. As far as NS contestants go, they sing country every week, but they also stray from country to show versatility. Nicole Jamrose did Sheryl Crow, Casey Rivers sang gospel, they all had their original songs that they sang... They didn't have to have the 50's theme, Year they were born, or top 10 billboard because they all pretty much covered those with Waylon Jennings, Big & Rich, & Reba McEntire. They had the Country theme down, the Classic Love Songs, and 21st century themes down too. That just leaves Stevie, Queen, and Rod. (And whatever the next five weeks brings.)

I guess it's a case by case situation.  You can't really generalize for everybody.
Bottom line is a singer is better off being good in a few styles of song, not just his or her favorite.
