To think that the same group that was doing "Meet the Beatles", "Something New", "Help", and Beatles 65 turned out an album as heavy and different than their prior material such as "Abbey Road" floor's me.  Yellow submarine, and White Album unfortuneately (such as several of their other mid-period albums) had to much waste on them.  Revolution number 9.. and several other mish-moshes are just waste IMHO..Shouldn't be on an album... Out've Sheer amazement, I have to say the transition in style between "She loves you yeah yeah yeah" to something as "heady" as the psychedelic content on Abbey Road is astonishing.  What other group has covered such a broad spectrum of "rock" ?  Abbey road is some excellent musicianship and studio work, although arguably songs such as Norwegion Wood, In my Life, and Long Long LOng are gorgeous ballads. They produced over 200 songs in a short time that made it big... THere's just ALOT of good stuff they did throughout.

One should never forget George Martin.  He was the one who put all the pieces together and was their "customer service" man.  I don't think they would have had the recording success  that they had without him.

I forget all about that.  For some reason, (likely because I was so young when they first became known) that they "did it on their own"...Funny how childhood impressions stick.

I just think the White Album is work that best represent their "experimental" period of their music. Such a different styles, instruments, etc.

The White Album does contain quite an ecclectic mix I suppose.   I believe that album was pretty much 1/2 McCartney 1/2 Lennon (as I vaguely recall), and I believe you would likely get more of their better work on those two albums than on any other single album (barring the later collections, or Beatles Volumes).
