The fact still is, that fossil fuel will be gone in the near future. And if you are in your 20s you will have the chance to live thru the transition period.
For land based transportation Keith will be ok with his horses and me with my bicycle. What fuel will the plane be feed with?

General maintanance for the car is the same price as a normal car. The electric cell is designed to be viable for 100,000 miles, but obviously some of those will last less and some will last longer, just like any car part. When you do have to have the electric cell fixed or replaced, it is expensive, but like I said with standard maintanance (which 75% of the population doesn't get done every 10-15K miles like they are supposed to), the cell should last 8-10 years (100,000 miles).
The initial cost of a hybrid is about 8-12K more than the comparable gas version, but the government also gives you a 3-5K instant tax rebate and you'll save about 33% on gas. Overall, everything is designed and priced so that you spend about the same on the overall use for the life of the vehicle, but you are using less fuel and creating less emmisions in the process....

Sorry, but 'fossil' fuel will not be gone as long as there is mother earth still orbiting the sun.....Science has proven that it is not 'fossil' fuel, but instead a substance created from the carbon contained in the earth's core, and it is a continuing process.....The stuff forms as a result of heat/pressure and slowly migrates upwards where it collects in huge underground pools....They continue to discover new pools of same on a regular basis....so planes will forever be powered by 'fossil' fuels.
Topher, you are correct that hybrid cars no longer need to be plugged in, but you are incorrect that the Jetta TDI is 33% less efficient than the hybrid....The Jetta gets 49MPG VS the best hybrid 52MPG.....
Oh, and lets not forget biofuels....biofuels are made from crop waste and timber byproducts....if it's green, it's biofuel.....So as long as this old world spins and as long as there is a green patch on earth there will be the ability to produce biofuels...
We just opened a new biofuel plant 10 miles from me....it will only get bigger as time goes by.

Geez I remember in the 1970's they were saying fossil fuel will be gone in 20 years and here we are using more than ever. So much for the doomsayers.

Sorry Kieth, those are not science; Its not even a good hypothesis. And to say
Science has proven that it is not 'fossil' fuel, but instead a substance created from the carbon contained That is a piece of non-science statment.

Hello friends.....been out cutting down trees and splitting wood.....as for gas prices, well it's 2.99 here......I'm still driving my gas hog truck.....but living on a small farm I find it's almost a necessary thing.......and it's not just gas....but everything is going up......add to that we are fast becoming (or are being made to) a debit card nation....I really think money as we know it will be a thing of the past....probably in my lifetime........when I graduated from high school gas was .29 a gallon.....cigarets were .35 a pack.......I could take my girl friend to a movie, and McDonlads, get gas and smokes all for $5.00.........you can believe as you will but my wallet was fatter when Clinton was president.......on the other hand we got a crazy oil man, that believes he's a cowboy and likes to play with big guns as president......
Here's an idea.....make Iraq our 51st state......just a thought......but we do spend more there than we do in any other of the 50 states......[schild=6 fontcolor=C0C0C0 shadowcolor=C0C0C0 shieldshadow=1]My Two Cents![/schild]

Sorry, but why should I pay the same price then not be able to hear a small block chevy thru loud pipes, and also experience the thrill of 300+ HP?...I really don't care about how much gas I use or the emmisions...I want bang for my buck.

Lets take all of the money out of Social Security and make gas free to everyone for the next 5 years.
That or I would like a refund check right now for every dollar I have paid into this worthless govenment scam. Benifiting, bums liars and old people.
If you old and broke you should have put some money away, I can't help that your broke. IBM in 1976 would have been a great idea, or Microsoft in 1984.
I'm putting all my $$ in Exxon, the fuel problem has no solution in sight for the next 20 years.

Quote: steven its the same way here with seafood....when they catch 10 million lbs a season of shrimp, the price goes down but they have more to sell, still make the same, if they catch less shrimp, the price goes up, still making the same...not a bad deal...
True, I don't think many can argue actual economic concepts regarding "Supply and Demand" or "Cost and Demand". While few like to pay close to $4 per head of lettuce, we recognise that crop condition's in California and climate in general play's a part in availability of produce, and most commodities in general. As you mention, few can dispute what's clearly an honest process.
With this gasoline situation, I just don't understand what's actually going on. Those of us that aren't made of money have a tough enough time affording our own medical and dental care as is. Medication costs can be rediculous. Insurance isn't easy to get. Why we as american's don't have easier access to health insurance is pretty sad. Seem's we often pay for other's to have what we can't afford, yet when it's our time around, we often don't get what we should be entitled to, we don't qualify for some ludicrous reason. The middle-class or working class again get's screwed. The increase in gas prices is not something many in the middle-class can afford. Not all can save money by "not going out drinking at night", many don't do that to begin with. You are correct, not all are lazy. Many have not been able to live in luxury with the high cost of living to begin with. There are people that have to commute to and from work to make ends meet. It's maddening to see where alot of our tax dollars go. The hard working person after working hard for 50 years, and paying into the system shouldn't have concerns in OUR country about having to deplete ALL his savings down to poverty level to become eligible for what turns out to be poverty level healthcare (should something happen during later years), When an older person get's ill, before certain inpatient care costs will get supplemented, they have to deplete just about ALL they have, for longer term medical. That's just wrong. There was supposed to be some "American Dream" and light at the end of the tunnel once we retired in lieu ALONE of the fact we paid into the system for many years, and OUR money would at least in part take care of US. American people born and raised in this country, or just the honest hard working taxpayer. Few can be so wealthy to begin with they can afford the exorbitant expenses per day of supervised living when ill. There's no nice "nest" that retired folks can confidently feel stable having earned upon retiring (after a life-time paying into a system anymore). Sadly, those who often benefit from our tax dollars, are exploiting the system. Not to mention government waste (but that's another topic)
If an immigrant illegally jumps our border's however, and needs medical and food and shelter. THEY get taken care of by our systems state hospitals, and can freeload on the American worker's tax dollar, reaping conditions many Americans paying into the system can't afford. They get fed (care of OUR tax dollar) and of course they know this. If an American citizen becomes ill and need's a costly procedure, he might have to die because he can't afford an organ, or procedure. It might be the tax money he had to pay that's the money he COULD'VE invested wisely. If charity began at home, and our tax dollars took care of our needs first, I wouldn't be annoyed about the screwey priorities and waste, but how many american's can really even afford even "dental care" ? That shouldn't be a luxury expense. Seem's the American dream often isn't there for the person who really deserves it, or those paying for it. What goes around doesn't seem to come around at least in this lifetime :( The fact that we work hard for 40-50 years, and pay taxes ALONE should insure us of at least a few years of peace, and freedom from mental anguish.
This affects the middle-class. It's just insult added to injury. It's NOT easy to live comfortably in this country if you have medical needs, dental expenses, etc. Try paying for your own medical insurance without a group rate. If you can't afford it, certainly hope you don't end up needing one of the newer med's that costs 8 bucks per pill, (and need to take several of those per day). This is just another straw making it even more costly to live comfortably.
