Look at page 20 in your manual and it will tell you exactly how to hook up your speaker to mono.

www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/Documents/ProA ... 5000_1.pdf

As for the cables...the price looks just fine for 50ft. Are you sure you need 50ft?
thats alot of cable for home system.

They obviously DELETED my post directing you to a place with cables that NONE of the sponsors here carry, SO I will PM or email them to you!  Funny that they haven't deleted any of the posts with you directing us to your finds in question!

thanks guys. And thanks Lon. Awesome site!

And im not sure I need 50' probably much less. But this would give me more flexibility in case I decide to place the speaker on the other side of th ebasement and have the mixer in my Electronics closet.

Will I notice a drop in quality in 50' 12GA cable over a 25 footer?

Lonnie -

You've got my curiosity up now on the link you provided on the PM could you do the same for me?

Can't figure out why they would delete the post if the item is not available through sponsors of this site....strange.

"3) The Speakon® connector delivers 400% MORE POWER than a 1/4"
connector. The Speakon® contacts have ample surface area and positive
contact when the connector is locked into place. "

400% more power? That must be a typo...I don't think I'd even buy 40% more. Maybe 4% more power??

What is the correct # here and where did you find that figure?

Typically a regular 1/4" connector is "rated" at 150-200 watts (without signal loss) while a typical Speakon can handle 1000 watts or better (without signal loss).  Speakons have bigger contacts so that more power can flow, better for high wattage situations & heavy bass/subs.  They are twist locks so they won't be pulled out, they can handle heavier guage wires & can be set up to bi, tri or even quad amp a speaker system (if it's capable) with 1 cord.  Many advatages to Speakon & very few (if any) disadvantages.

Here are a couple of topics on that subject:

http://www.sweetwater.com/forum/showthr ... stid=17621
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/document ... les#CABLES

You can find more on a typical search.

No sh*t....

So if I am running my 500 watt speakers and subs with 1/4" plugs and I switch to speakon (they are all equipped for them), I will actually get cleaner sound?

That may be my next investment!!

You may not notice it that much audibly (although you probably will), but your speakers definitely will!

I cut and pasted that blurb about Speakon from their website.

Can't find the link now but I did a search for speakon and that info came up.
