CAN SOMONE DEVOCAL A SONG?

Many recording programs have built in devocalizers aries.  Look under either Effects or Options then check for a Center Channel Extractor, that's what you're looking for.  Hope this helps

There aren't many good devocalizers on the market, especially software based.  The best one available is the Thompson Vocal Eliminator but unless you're willing to shell out about $2500 - $3000 it's pretty extravagant and unreachable for most of us.  Wonderful piece of equipment though.

I am using powerkaraoke that makes cdg and devocalize..

got to www.mtu.com as they just released the biggest change in the devocalizing market.  I thought their VOgone two was great but vogone three has made it so you're not stuck with center panned devocalization. Yeah it might seem not that easy to use but it costs no where near $2500

I need to quantify that if you are looking for a perfect devocalizer, It doesn't exist.
The closest I have seen is Vogone and even they will tell you that they can get virtually almost all vocals that are out there but can't totally take out the effects that most singers use today such as reverb and echo. They will reduce the volume levels. and also there is the fact that the better the vocal removal, the more instrumentation you will lose, even with the tompson unit.

 I tried a couple of devocalization progs several years ago and none of them were very user friendly and results were very poor... it could have been user error though it is good to know that MTU stuck with the VOgone development so that it does a better job than earlier versions.  Thanks for the info and worth checking out... I think most people would like a simple vocal reducer for their music so they can still hear a "ghost" singer to follow along with... unless a person has access to the master tapes or some serious experience on PC studio programs, it would be almost impossible to completely remove the vocal channel altogether... Will have to point folks over to MTU when they ask about removing vocals now...

Even MTU points out that it may be impossible with some songs even with the non center panned addition to vogone to get the desired results due to some being recorded analog or with heavy effects.  Even now the are still calling it a vocal eliminator/reducer.

Alesis also makes a good devocalizer--doesn't do as good a job as the Thompson Vocal Eliminator but the cost is much more reasonable @ $300 thereabouts.  Again, it isn't software but rather a piece of audio equipment like the TVE.  If Vogone's gotten better seems like it might be a pretty good alternative for those wanting to use it to record or perform.

Hi Cathi ....Actually I'm recovering from having a couple wisdom teeth pulled ...i think i have what they call dry socket which is very painful so I'm going back to the dentist tomorrow.....other then that, I miss singing and can't wait to get back into the groove.....thanks sugar

I've removed vocals with Adobe Audition, some songs work and others sound like total crap.....  I have some really crazy songs I'd love to try but can't find the backings. Also if you can sing the song really close to the original, you can just reduce the vocals and sing over it for kind of a doubling effect. I'm still kind of new to this and prefer recording with my karaoke system - but one day I'll get it!! Drea
