Speaking as a karaoke singer here (not a kj):  If there's more than one version listed, I'll write them all down:  "#1000, #2000, #3000, or #4000", and let the kj pick which one THEY think is best.  Although I know of at least one kj who now just has people write down the song and artist (and your name, of course); the books are there, but you don't need to write down the number.

I have duplications listed in my book only on certian songs that I know that have more than one version of a song that is preferred by our regulars.

Example: Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
SC has what I consider to be the best version but I have one customer that prefers a much slower version of that song in (all hits) so I carry both.

I'm still weeding out songs after all these years.

I used to have people do that as well, another reason why I just picked the ones to list in the book in the first place & delete all the dups.  If they left it up to me or came up & asked me which one was better, they must be trusting the kj's opinion anyway.

LMAO good point Lonman.
On my old system I would list duplicates because I hadn't weeded them
out yet. It always bugged me when they would ask which is the better version.
To be perfectly honest I didn't always know. Of course if I knew one was sound choice I'd pick it 1st. When you have 1000s of sounds your not formiliar with everyone. Some songs I'd never even heard before. LMAO

It took a lot of work to listen to all the songs and weed out the dupes. I recoded all
my numbers etc.... But it was well worth it.

6,000 tracks I more than likely couldn't find ant ting to sing in that book.

My current count is about 25,000 without dups and I have 2 to 3 songs a week that I do not own. I would say that if you had the foundations Brick 1 and 2 and Every Spotlight disc it would be a good collection.

I add the DK collection there are many odd songs in there. As well as Pop Hits and Top Hits have a good number of tracks that Soundchoice never makes, especially rock.

I run different contest to encourage people to sing different music.

Sound Choice Spotlight disc are like Pokemon you have to collect them all! 850+ and still counting.

LOL at this analogy--my son loves Pokemon!  Actually he's not into collecting the game cards so much as he's into watching the videos, drawing the characters, imitating their voices (we do this in the car a lot  :D ) and making up stories about them.

Now that is HARD to belive, sorry but I think it is.

Ifyou have that many songs, you shouldn't be getting requests for songs you don't have, only perhaps if it new/recently released song that isn't available yet

Like I said I have about 6,000 songs, with some dupes (curently editing out the crappy ones), and get a request for songs (not NEW songs) of perhaps 1-2 a month.  I just don't see having 25k songs, and still not filling coustomers request.

Not bashing you, just realy hard to belive.

I have 10K non-dup'd & get requests all the time for songs I don't have - new & old, mostly classic rock & new country, don't have a big demand for the newer rock/pop.  Couldn't tell you how often, but I have a request sheet clipboard at my booth with aprox 50 lines on it & It is usually full within 2-3 months.

I've got about 9500 with no dupes and with 3-4 shows per week I get about 5-6 requests per week for songs I dont have.

In looking at most of those requests they are either obscure artists or songs by popular artists that would not be considered mainstream. That is I would never consider purchasing unless they came on a disc that I was purchasing for other reasons.

Some of those requests are for chart toppers that are currently being beat to death on the radio. I don't mind purchasing them as I know they will get played. I do wait until I find a version that is of quality before I buy.

I bet that even with 25,000 songs someone will point out something you do not have. I stopped trying to keep up as most of those songs will never get played anyway. I will purchase them but only if the person agrees to return and sing the song! The chances of that are slim unless they are a regular.

However We still track all requests in Excel on the computer. We watch for multiple requests.
