Here's my take on tonight's shows just because I'm bored and have nothing else to write about!
American Idol
Kathryn - I actually thought it was one of her best. I really really like her vocals. Her performance seemed kinda off, like she was worried about how she looked and worried too much about playing the stage... TOP 3
Elliot - Loved him. Always love him. TOP 3
Kelli - OMG why did she have to sing Unchained Melody?!?? You can look around here on SS and find better renditions. I think she needs to go bu-bye.
Paris - She's got great technique, but she still bugs me. Idk if it's the tone of her voice or just her personality... Not in my top 3 pick though.
Taylor - I really liked his performance tonight, and actually thought it was less "Vegas/Reno" than the other shows. He was a little off pitch in some areas, but the song sounded too low for him in general. I don't think he's an "Idol" though, so he's not in my top 3.
Chris - He started off strong, and while he was great the whole way through, there were a couple iffy spots where he seemed unsure of himself (for a second or two.) The end note was perfect! I love Chris. He's definately in my top 3.
Nashville Star
Nicole Jamrose - This was her second best performance imo, but she still doesn't sing that great. I think she should have gone a long time ago.
Chris Young - Gorgeous vocals but not my favorite song of his. I don't think he showed all that he should have for it being the deciding song in the show. He's still my fav just because he's so consistent, which is so hard to find when it comes to performing live.
Casey Rivers - Took home tonight's show with his gospel. His voice is like butter. And he's dang sexy too. I don't think I'd mind too much if he won... just so long as Chris got a record deal too!

I didn't see American Idol this week. Tivo got confused and recorded The Daily Show (could have caught it's rerun instead).
As for NS, I thought Nicole gave a great comeback performance. She came out ready for competition and I thought she may have done the best this week. You might not like her style of song, but for that style she does it very well.
Chris Young to me just kind of coasted through this week. Not bad by any means,
but he was a little sharp in spots in the first half of the song. Charmin ~ I don't mean to dis the new boyfriend! LOL It'll probably come down to a Casey and Chris battle.
Casey did great on his gospel song. But he did a slower emotional ballad last week.
I'd like to hear him on something more up tempo.

I thought Cathern did wonderful. I didn't understand the judges
reaction to her. I still like Cathern as a top 3 pick.
Paris did well, but I agree, something bugs me about her. she is
amazing for her age though. She is an amazing performer. She always puts feeling into her songs.
Chris did okay. I was left uncertain how I felt when he was done.
I thought Kelly did better than ever. Which isn't saying much. She has come a long way since the beginning. She has a strong voice and doesn't seem to ever struggle when singing. She is so stiff though. I beleive she went 2 octives in that song. If she is coached I think she could be incredible, but she isn't there yet.
Elliot did well, but I don't like his singing. I have never felt like he feels the songs - he
just sings them.
Taylor was week. The ending was good, but I think over all it wasn't good.
It is tough to pick this week. I want Elliot gone, but I don't know he will be the one.
If I had to pick on vocal alone I'd have to say Kelly, but we all know she isn't going any where yet. I'm afraid for Taylor Hicks.

Yeah, I think Kelli has a really big fan base because of her personality, but I'm not crazy about her vocals. I was shocked by the judges reaction to Kathryn too. Maybe it sounds way different in person than it does on tv...

I'm still for Kelli all the way. She has an outstanding personality and yes...I love how she sings. I thought her performance last night was great. She reminds me of a young Loretta Lynn with her personality.
As for Katherine.....I've caught several of her performances that hit several sour notes (I thought it was strange that they weren't mentioned when she got off-key because everyone else's have been brought to the public's attention. I was glad when it was brought out last night) but I will have to give it to her.....she loves looking into that camera. I was scared she might have a mishap last night with that dress she was wearing. What did she do? Duct tape those suckers from the outside in? She has this "greater than thou attitude" to me that just turns me off.
Chris is awesome.....No if's and's or but's.
I like Elliot but just don't think he has the star quality but he is a talented singer. I really wouldn't be dissappointed to see him go to the top.
Taylor.....I love Taylor....He is a fun guy and talented too. I love his style...It's unique and really makes him stand out.
Paris.....She needs to go. I haven't been very impressed with her since day one.
My top 3 picks and this is in no particular order because I would be happy if either 3 of these won......Chris, Kelly, and Taylor.

Big surprise!!!!!
Paris is Going Home with Taylor Hicks trailing as the next to last place. Kathrine was first place with Kellie The pickle as number two.
Nashville Star should go to Casey Rivers........Best all over. IMHO Nashville Star tops out over American Idol Hands down.

I haven't seen Nashville Star yet. I only have time to watch one show a week.
Everyone says it is better. Could it be because there isn't an age limit, so they get more seasoned singers?

Heres how its going down, u read it here first....as much as i love kellie shes gotta go after lastnight, but she want go this week, to big of a fan base, elliot sings great just doesn't have that IT factor, gotta go, i really like paris, a lotta talent, guessing she has the black vote but that won't be enough...katheine sings and looks great, i think with the cam. in ur face u have to look at it, talor didn't impress me much at first but lately hes doing great...chris did great i thought lastnight, he WILL win it all...
sooooooo...in this order to go...
Elliot
Paris
Kellie
katheine
Taylor
Chris takes it all, there is 3 points margin for error
Nashville Star...
Chris will win it all...
Nicole will get the bottom 3, then Casey, with Chris winning it....

AO, If real competition were that sweet I'd still be in it... What a bunch of fluff and drama, no more watching Idol for me... That was a boring 20 minutes
Even the loser's get to play "This is your life".. I've outgrown primetime TV.

Paula gave it away who was going home before it was even announced. LOL
I sure did hate to see Kelly go but I'm sure we haven't seen the last of her.
I'm beginning to think this thing is fixed. Especially after the apology tonight....Good Grief!!!!

Oh God yeah, First thing that came to mind is they know before the show what the outcome will be, I've got a feeling (although this was the first glimpse I've had) that for ratings the show is counting on these kid's "acting", and making the program interesting, I'll bet they recruit kid's not based on talent, but how they'll do for the show's ratings throughout. It's about keeping that show alive, not about musical talent.. Just a hunch.. This at first glance appears as real as "Springer".. Is it about talent, or how these kids interact and how interesting they are for the show's ratings ? They probably want to go a step beyond "Star Search", and "Apollo"... Adding some flamboyance....Even that skit with Simon and the dancing I saw looked contrived, there was no real feeling behind it, they were playing.... This is all canned I'll bet. Star Search I felt was about as honest as primetime TV talent show's get. This is fill-in, and BS.... (I think)... I'll bet the audience even received cards....
Applaud, Laugh, look sad, teary-eyed, etc.... ALL BS
Here's a question for you folks. I admit I'm not familiar with Idol, tonight was my first glimpse... but really, Paula, Simon are big-wig's in the entertainment/talent industry, they also have invested interest in that show getting watched every week. Is their loyalty towards keeping that show affloat, or actual talent of these kids ? Assuming it were the later, wouldn't that often create a conflict of interest ? Do people turn on that show to see another "Star Search", or a cliff-hanger, and some drama ? Is this show ANYTHING about actual talent of these kids ? Or does their ability to blend into the show's theme what matters most ? What are people watching ? Musical talent, The judges, the presentation, or the drama ? How many watching would even agree on artistic talent or know what it is ? Isn't this about the show, and not the talent ? "Star Search" has been done to death.. This doesn't appear real. Wasn't Kellies's series of orchestrated "losing clips" and her speech all WELL rehearsed and the biggest part of the program ? music, clips, and her "sportsmanship" all picked out beforehand, how much does a show like this actually leave to chance ? I doubt much, too risky. The objective is to hook the TV viewer, not for the most talented kids to win.. I guess I'd bet alot of points on this (since I don't gamble)

Bab's. Yeah I'm fine. I don't need anymore drama and depression in my life. Keeping the TV off is the smartest thing I've done in years

Idol is like 2 different shows. The first half is watching all the tryouts. To me this is
very comical. The second part is the real competition. Some people watch one part and not the other. I like it all. I don't think it is fixed. They are under huge scrutiny by everyone. The fixed part is that these kids are enslaved with contracts for being on the show. I guess thats the price they have to pay.

NS....... Well, I have this huge love affair thing going on with Chris Young, man he's hot. And a hail of a singer. That song he sang on "original" song night won me over.
BUT...... the last show, Casey kinda snuck up front with that rendition of that old gospel song. I have a big soft spot for oldie & bluegrass gospel music. And when someone can do it upright like he did...... he's got my vote.
I'm not gonna care either way who wins it I think, as long as it isn't Nicole. She is a good singer- SOMEtimes- but IMHO she belongs on a different show, not NS. She pulled off a hail of a Dixie Chicks though, I gotta say I did like her performance of that.
In my dream last night, Casey won..... but IN that dream, I was married to Chris. So I dunno, at this point I'm just really confused about who I want to win.
(more about that dream later..... it was great, hahaha) :D

Of course it's not all about talent. But that doesn't mean talent isn't important. I'm sure you can find cases of people who got excluded simply because someone with slightly less talent was more interesting and made for better TV. I find this neither surprising nor deceitful. If the people they advanced to the finals were people with no talent at all, it would ruin the show's credibility and no one would watch.
Personally I find the audition rounds much more fun, where they show the people who are unspeakably awful but think they're great. I feel a bit guilty about saying that, because they're exploiting those poor misguided people for profit. But I can't help it. It's one thing if you're just a horrible singer, and that's not particularly interesting; it's another when you're tone-deaf but somehow think you're the greatest thing since the Beatles.
