get more moneey for his music. Do you think the new wife has anything to do with it?

Now you have me wondering.  I just started singing solo last Saturday using my cdgs'. I'm not a kj or dj. Does the venue where I sing pay or do I have to pay to be in compliance with the rules?  The owner refuses to have karaoke due to some bad experiences with past kjs.

The club would still be responsible whether it be karaoke, live music or someone signing to cdg's, to pay the publishing fees.

The owners had a license for ASCAP, not for BMI. So the BMI rep counted the songs that were ones that BMI covered.

It's not a karaoke thing. It's a LICENSING issue between the venue owners and the copyright holders! They are represented by ASCAP, BMI and whatever that Seasac sucker is.

You missed the last part of it.   If he doesn't get the license there will be no more karaoke, bands, TV, radio, etc.    Some KJ will be out of a job.

a kj being out of a job is the LEAST of anybody's worries!

Except THAT particular kj.

I lost a job because a venue i played didn't have a "spectacle permit" that's what they call them here in Quebec and no fines were handed out. The owner applied for 1 and I resumed working there but it took her 7 months to get through all the red tape.

My sister lives in Michigan.   She sent me a newspaper clipping about a bar out there going to court over this.

Ok I came home one night totally burned out and reacted to all this bs about what is law and whatn isnt. This very thread proves my point.    The cases referred to to are from 2003. They have nothing to do with copyright laws but fees collected by (authorized and accepted collectors) It was not a viable tactic or they still would be persuing it. If you think the feds with the current world situation are worried about what some DJ or Kj is playinng in some bar is relevant and going to enforce copyright laws you are in a fantasy world. If you think the copyright laws are going to protect you from the multi-rigger then guess again..

It is time we discussed some viable solutions and not sit here and judge with an enemic ego and try to tell evrybody else how to live.

I am a muscerlo apache and and a vietnam vet so you will not intimidate me in real life or certainly not on a forum....

It's not the FEDs, it's BMI & ASCAP.    These people like to eat too.   It's their job just like you have a job.    Our job is playing music and their job is turning people in for not paying what is due.    Pretty cut and dried to me.
