DITTO THAT.  I seem to feed off the crowd.  If it is a boring crowd/night, I want to get home ASAP.  But if the crowd is into it, and having fun, I will play over (For tips) and have more fun.

I have been KJing for almost 3 years, and the wife has been doing it for 10+ years.  I know she has gotten burned out.  We did hire another couple to do one of our weekly shows (thrs/fri nites), and we switdch which nites we do and they do.  It provides a variety/break for us, and gives the crowd a different variety of hosting styles.  We have noticed that each of us have a different set of regulars.  There are some that only go to thier shows, and some that only go to our shows, and of course the addicts that go to every show.  They are about 10 years younger than the wife and I, and it works out great.  It also helps when we want to go on vacation, or if we are sick.

typical bar gig depending on geographical location, Weekday or Weekend, and level of expertise will pay between $125 to $250 per night. The amount varies quite a bit based upon those factors. Not enough for me to leave my day job however it does provide quite a few extras.

$20 an hour? I hope he is fibbing. Is he using his own equipment?
He needs a raize.

That's about average pay for a host using a house system.

I'd happily do that one night a week for 100 bucks using someone elses equipment...  Not a bad way to make an extra 100 assuming it's a tolerable environment.  There aren't bar entertainment openings around here that would pay more anyway.  The days of three hundred dollar's a night or more payout (in an average to smaller bar around here are LONG past).  Few have that money, business is bad

Heck yeah - I would love to just walk into a place and not have to set up or tear down. If someone breaks something it isn't my problem and no more making books.
Pretty cushy job for $100 a night.

I wonder if he is including his tips in that $20hr?

If so he's got a great deal going.
