Babs - for some reason I missed the words "Regular Customers" in your original post and in that case I would handle the situation differently. My regulars rarely ever pull this manuver on me as they know how my rotation runs. But if one did:

I would just take them off to the side put one arm around them and say something like. I just cant put you up before others in the rotation and being a regular you know that I run a fair rotation and would not consider bumping you up in front of the other regulars. I'm sorry but that is just the way it works.

The Idea about announcing for them to buy the bar a round of drinks to be bumped in the rotation is a great idea....that way it benefits all involved and is likely not to happen more than once in an evening.

Also if I  remember right you are running a computer. Have you considered a video program that will display the singer rotation on the screen in between each song?
This would help with the impatient ones.

I'm past the point of taking them aside - That is the first thing I do. One night I made the girl cry. She threatened me she would go home and said fine, go. I always try to be nice until it gets on my last nerve.

Great ideas, but with my night there is no down time between songs. It is one after another. I do announce rotation sometimes just to make a point. After rattling off 30 or more names as fast as I can they all laugh. Of course new people come in and the list actually gets longer.

Over grown toddlers!!

I should have said grown woman - she wasn't a girl.
I would be embarrassed to beg to sing a song. You are basically saying
since I think I am better than everyone else I should sing more.

I had someone pull the I talked to the owner trick and he said I could sing again.
I said sure not a problem - when your turn comes around. LMAO

I heard them all that night. I got -someone wants to hear me sing and he is leaving soon. I said if he wants to hear you that bad he'll stay. By the way, the guy stayed all night.

I got- I'm leaving soon so can I sing real quick. I said don't worry I'm here 3 nights a week, so if you have to leave before your turn comes up you can come back.

Beleive me I've heard them all - I'm just tired of hearing them.

This one cracks me up! Ive even had people ask me to be bumped up so they can go get a song in at somebody elses karaoke show! The sole purpose of karaoke is to keep people in the bar so that they spend more money. Why would a KJ do anything to help a customer get out of the bar quicker? I guess some of the customers just don't get it.

Many KJs will put a new singer up, without putting him/her at the end of the rotation. Several singers I know or know of, come in, sing one song within 15 minutes or less, leave and repeat this process at several bars in the area......most of the time they even sing the same song........p!s's off people waiting over an hour, and spending plenty of money on drinks.........homey don't play dat........ok, maybe for a picture of Jefferson......ok...ok.....maybe Lincoln......and the guy in between....lol

I don't put new singers at the end of rotation. I stagger them in between the old singers. I make them wait at least 4 or 5 songs then put new singer, old singer, new singer etc... after they are in rotation they stay there until the end of the night.

Same here.  Some nights if I didn't do that, the 1st rotation would have never ended.
