It pretty much looked like that around here yesterday, too.  Started with one heckuva light show Wednesday night, and wasn't really done until this morning!

Pretty much a standard Texas T-storm coming in...this WAS a big one though.

Without being able to see the tops, I'd call 'em nimbostratus...but I'd lay odds that they're cumulonimbus...they definitely look like "thunderheads" (not a translation, a nickname)

yet, i would stilll slice them into the woods or knock them into the water.  i'm not much good at golf.  i do have fun washing my balls, though.  i mean, a cleaner ball travels farther, right?  and the object is to get in the hole in the fewest strokes, right?

Yeah, but sometimes the best way to get it into the hole is to go through the rough.  Just gotta make sure you get it ALL the way in, too.  Putts...that's what gets you in the hole... :ppfftt:

Yes,  they are cumulonimbus, all storm cloud's are that spawn precipitation and have that rolling formation, the term Nimbus (suffix) or Nimbo (prefix) just indicates that precipitation in the way of snow, hail, or rain is produced from the cloud. :Nimbus: clouds are just a precipitating form of either Cumulus, or Stratus formations. Those pictured are Cumulonimbus, ("Nimbus" alone was just the waterbed company)   LOL, and an "Abbreviation" for rolling storm clouds producing hail, or rain, or snow, or even the grey flat cloud blanketing in which precipitation is falling.  Used to be said that funnel clouds were called straight "Nimbus" but I think that was technically incorrect.  There is no Nimbus cloud formation, there are only three types of cloud formation

Cirrus
Stratus
Cumulus

Stratonimbus would just mean the cloud formation is flat appearing as opposed to rolling puffy in formation, like those Cumulonimbus upside down buttocks, OR are they rightside up buttocks ?    .  the Cumulonimbus formation is perhaps up to 12 miles high, those are the tallest anvil topped clouds and I believe the flatter appearing Stratonimbus formation also can be up to 12 miles showing the anvil head from the side view...   Along time ago meteorologist's used to refer to funnel clouds, or greenish tornado conditions as just "Nimbus",  yet they were likely abbreviating, there is no such thing as just a "Nimbo, or Nimbus cloud formation... Formation types are Cirrus, Stratus, Cumulus... , hail, etc...

Nimbus just means precipitous cloud, yet must technically be cumulus, or Stratus formations.

Why can't I find any documentation regarding the highest elevation a cow has ever been lifted by a Tornado ?      :(

Back in, the early 80's I was in a hail storm.  I was in the car with my mom.  It was the day that Van Halen's 1984 debuted.  Anyway softball sized hail broke out all the windows in the car.  One of them hit me in the elbow and sprained my arm.  It was U-G-L-Y!!!!!  We had hail stones come through the roof of house house and go all the way thru the attic and come thru the ceiling into the living room....

Just gotta love those storms.....I still get sceered when they roll thru
