I saw this subject heading and I thought it meant "out of the closet"!  LOL!

Anyway, I've never been anywhere where the same person always closes the show.  Usually the KJ _OPENS_ the show by singing a song, though.  At a couple of places where I go, one of the regulars is an older guy who sings a lot of Sinatra stuff, and they usually put him first in the rotation.  I think that's because he's usually the first customer there.

Once I got to a karaoke place just as they were closing up for the night, and as I was coming in, one of the workers said, "Let this customer sing."  So I got to go ahead and sing anyway (even though there were very few people there!  I didn't mind, though!).

i thought this topic would mean a singer who bails you out on a slow night to help get the crowd going.  in which case, yes i do.  a couple actually.  i know i can count on them to come sing, even if i just toss a song in for them and call them up.

as to the real topic here, i have a standing tradition of taking the last song.  it's always after karaoke has ended (1:30 am at my venues), but the song varies.  usually it's "The Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time", but once in awhile it's "Six Pack To Go" or "Hey Bartender" if it's a saturday night gig.  they're all songs that just about everyone knows and will sing along with, plus it gets the message across that the bar is closing.

After closing my shows I will sing Monty Python's "Sit On My Face" as the, "that, that, that's all folks," unless management has an issue with that.

Oh I've been that singer quite a few times - one particular night where the first half a dozen rotations consisted of just me and the KJ

I've been singing Goodnite Sweetheart for so long, I almost know all the words.

I used to close all my shows with Goodnight Sweetheart. too.  But invited about 6 or so singers up each night to do it as a group and they loved it.  Of course the guys always wanted to do that low part....LOL  I have had nights when as many as 10 singers came up to sing it.  It was a nice way to close the show.
