I'm much too wishy-washy to even attempt to come up with a number I would rate myself with.

It would depend on the day, my mood, my current vocal state, my song choice, what genre it was, if it's something I know well, if it's in my range, if I'm drinking or not, ..... (cause trust me, when I'm drunk.... I'm a real consistent 10 to my own ears)  LMAO  I think from day to day, song to song, (beer to beer, lollllll) I wobble up and down the scale....... maybe not normally landing all the way at the bottom, but certainly never getting near the top either.  My voice alone..... would stop me from getting too far up the scale. It's not a great voice...... I don't put out a clear, crisp sound...... people always say I sound "different"...... which is not always a good thing. Not when singing cover songs, like in karaoke.

But I think a few of you here..... are being too modest about yourselves. I aint gonna name names, you know who ya are.

This is gonna be interesting reading though.

That's the bottom line, I think. I've always been a perfectionist, always will be. In everything that I do I'm my own worst enemy, I can beat myself up for days when I don't do something just how I wanted to. I've known a lot of great singers who just think they're crap! There's a lot of days myself when I get done practising that I'm like, who am I kidding? I'm so not big star material. And then there's those moments when you really connect with the song, when everythings perfect and you step back and are like, wow, that did sound really flawless.

Oh, you're a very good singer for sure.  It's good to be critical of yourself. It's what keeps you striving to be even better.  But your own mood of the day in general may color how you think you're doing -- it won't always be 100% accurate I don't think.

Lyric's I'd give myself a "1", or "near braindead".. It took me two week's to memorize "Behind blue Eyes", and even today I strain something trying to recall them.  70's took it's toll in some respects  :(

Today's a good day, I just got a vision,  first two words in "Amanda" by Boston

Babe, Tomorrow's...(pretty good eh?, I like this song alot too)

I used to like playing Elton John stuff on the piano alot, yet some of his lyrics were tough to recall, and after "your song", I just never cared to memorize the lyrics of some of his bizarre stuff, like "Philadelphia freedom" and "Don't let your son go down on me".

Babe...Tomorrow's so far away
Somethin' I just have to say...

I love that ENTIRE album...my best friend and biggest crush for a long time in HS was a girl named Holly Anne...I think I dayum near melted the first time I heard THAT song  LOL

And I still like Elton John!!  LMAO

That's why I like getting really honest feedback (and giving it) in SS. I think that constructive critiscism is the only way a person can grow. No one gets better by being the winner (or getting 10's) all the time. My mama is the first one to tell me things like, "Baby, that was flat" or "Wow, that was off pitch, better stop and try again." Believe me, every time I hear stuff like that it only makes me want to try harder.

There is a reason why I don't submit to SS my singing. I know I am not good at it. However, as I tell others, Karaoke is about 25% ability and 75% attitude. It's all about having fun in front of people and keeping them entertained regardless of your abililties. I would be a 6 on a good day less than 3 on bad.

I can't remember words if my life depended on it, that's why we have words in front of us. I remember the melodies well but never words.

Well if I score msyelf as I've been scored in competition and average:

Raw Vocal Talent:  7
Delivery, Singing Ability:  7 ~ 8
Stage Presence:  9

I truly feel I've got the passion, moving around, looking at the audience thing down -- and it has helped me in advance in competition against much better singers who simply stood in place too nervous to take their eyes off of the monitor or come out from behind the mike stand.  If I could be given a wireless headset to move around in the audience, I'd do it in a heart beat.  Frankly I feel the judges historically have been incredibly kind to rate me a 7 in vocal talent, I would honestly give myself a 5 or a 6.

This is my problem... I have poor stage presence most of the time, and when I actually allow myself to open up and have a good time at best I am average. I wish I could let go of insecurities and really perform but I'm waaay to self conscious!

Pretty good.  Maybe about a 6 or a 7.   :worship:   That is, unless I'm not feeling well.

I have to give myself a low 8 but not a 7.  Mostly because I always try different songs and don't stick to any genre.  I do decent crooning, great rapper, okay soul or r&b, good country, good pop, and great alt rock.

There are a few songs in my range were I would rate between 4.5 and 5.5, but for most of the songs that I want to sing I would be between a 1 and a 4. Overall I'd say I average about a 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399!

... aproximately.

Stage presence/performance is the worst area for me.  Like a lot of karaoke singers, I pretty much just stand there and stare at the monitor.  Vocally I cover a pretty wide range from suckitude to pleasant-if-unspectacular.

The problem with rating yourself is figuring out who to compare to.  Most times I've been to karaoke, I'm above average (occasionally not; see above) compared to the rest of the crowd.  Occasionally I think I'm the best singer there but usually there's at least one other person who I think is better.  It's obviously pretty subjective, anyway.  I try to do as well as I can, but I think if I concerned myself too much about having to sound good every time, I couldn't do it.  I enjoy singing and just accept the fact that some of the time I'm going to suck.

Yeah Dave, Early 90's which was towards the end of when I last had it in me to play Classic Rock cover as a guitarist- at all decently, (and I was only doing it locally that late in time) there was certain criteria I had in knowing the type of frontman I'd proudly play behind.. My idea of a rock vocalist is the tenor that can hit the following four area's of the following four different rock/ballad songs with equally skilled dynamic's in A Cappella.  This is one of the reason's I won't sing, my idea of a decent vocalist isn't lax.  I'm stubborn in my tastes :) (I also had to do my part is a musician behind him).  I can't even tastefully hit the harmony vocal part to "It's now or never" with the proper blend of dynamics and voice timbre (in the Song Amanda), so I won't sing even backup..But how I wish I could !!!  So I practice singing using "Karaoke" as a means (in the closet) !    This is the styling of rock I covered when I was out... It's the type of song I liked in the classic rock genre, although technically wind's of change might not be old enough to classify as "classic ballad" it certainly is of that styling, or will be categorized as such.

This is what I consider a rock vocalist, the person who can tastefully cover the following four songs. Yet hey, just my tastes... Call me Jappy Kappy !

"You and I, I know that we can wait
and I swear, I swear it's not a lie girl
Tomorrow may be too late
You, You and I girl we can share a life together
It's now or never
and tomorrow my be too late."

"Jane, you say it's all over
For you and me, girl
There's a time for love and
A time for letting it be, baby"

"Take me
To the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the winds of change"

"When I was younger man I hadn't a care
Fooling around, hitting the town, growing my hair
You came along and stole my heart when you entered my life
Ooh babe you got what it takes so I made you my wife"

Raw vocal talent: 8 - 9 maybe
Technique:  7
Stage Presence:  10+

I don't really like the sound of my voice all that much but know I can sing.  I have great energy and emotion when performing though and a great stage presence can make up for lack of talent in other directions.
