The KJ tells you to fill out as many slips as you like and not to leave the stage....Arrg!! Happened to me the other night.  I just wanted to sing a couple of songs, not be the full entertainment for all the others in the bar that didn't want to sing.....

Filler music people...Come on...That was torture..I sang two in a row twice in like 45 minutes....Prolly less.....I left after my second two songs...

How different!!  I have singers who would LOVE to do that!  Wednesday was slower than usual and they still wanted me to stay late!

If I were the KJ that would be a bad karaoke night.... And I don't do filler music so I'd really be up a creek!

Susie :)

I've had people so drunk they thought the button to push so you can disconnect the mic was the off switch.  LMAO

Your boyfriend or girlfriend is bored and wanders off to pley video poker after the third song......until closing time.

The girl with the three note range and no vibrato tries to do Wind Beneath My Wings.

The KJ leaves the laptop randomly playing crappy dance music despite having a table full of slips, while he's more interested in cuddling up with his girlfriend.

I've not been back since...

Not to mention inability to match pitch Don. I can't stand when people sing those slow ballads, and hit key notes OFF pitch, and hang onto them waivering around the pitch.. This is about as pleasing as "the wind beneath my sheets"..  That and that Whitney Houston song from BodyGuard...or any slow ballad... That's painful to listen to.

I agree whole heartedly.  If they ain't got the pitch, then the song's in a ditch.

It's funny Don.  My mom's an artist, and my dad's a scientist.. Also a real embarrassment when I was younger in synagogue... He's pretty much tone-deaf, loves to sing loud, and perfectly off pitch..God save us  :(

Hmmm... not so fun Karaoke night....

-  Hearing one genre of music all night.  My peeve is hearing too much (obscure) country --- Ok, don't shoot me, just not a big country music fan.  Some stuff ok though.

-  Too many singers.  Worse too many crappy singers.

-  Fight breaks out and KJ calls it a night

-  KJ doesn't know what they're doing.  Crappy sound, mix versions of songs

-  Can't play your own disk and/or selections stinks.  e.g. they've got one (or none) of your fav band and they one they do have is something nobody would know.

- Smoke so thick that you don't even have to light up or you're sick by the end of the evening.

-  You're asked to leave because of something NOT of your own doing-- e.g. drunk jack-a$$ friend does something bad.  The "we-gotta-go girl/guy" is pouting cause they don't want to stay anymore and you're up in the next couple of songs.

On the Smoke elimination thing-- There are air exchangers I've seen on shows like "this old house".  They suck out the bad air, run thru a heat exchanger and suck in air from outside over the same heat exchanger.  I'm surprised more places don't employ that.  Sure you loose heat/cooling some but at least the air would be better and don't lose ALL the inside temp air.

Yep.  I encountered one of those once.  And I KNOW that one of the songs I picked IS available on karaoke disc, but he apparently didn't have it!  That's fine--but in that case, why brag about how many songs you have, and say that you have every song that's ever been written, or some BS like that?   (This person even bragged about having more songs than the other KJ who also was working at the same place on a different night.  Nice huh.)

you know you're at a bad karaoke night when.....

there's only one mic and it has more dents than my sister's first car

the kj is drunker than you are

the sign says "karaoke @ 9pm" but it's 10:15 and there's no kj to be found

the one and only songbook has 112 pages, but the "M"s and half the "R"s are missing

the rotation is only 8 singers, but you haven't been called to sing in an hour

did i miss any?
