no, they CHANGED their stance. It's not an issue of piracy, but of control.

Doing business, by taking a stance......maybe the hand shake will make a return...lol....if you go to HFA licensing, like I have in the past, you can make all the karaoke cds you want, from the artists that have given the ok. You can also make your own version of the song, and sell it on your cd. Last time I purchased a license, it was just shy of 8 cents a song, with a minumum of 500 copy purchase. Evidently many karaoke manufacturers didn't think they had to pay this by changing a few words, and assuming no new melodies have been created since the masters covered all the possible arraingements of the few notes we have to work with. Now it's possible that Brooks doesn't subcribe to the use of his songs. That being the case, then it never was legal. If you go to the various music download services, you will see Garth don't play that game, though the majority of artists are available......."taking a stance"....lol...we're not talking about saving the seals, this is business, with contracts, and big money floating around.......you can call it what ever makes you feel exonerated.....like I always say, people like to draw the line where they feel comfortable......but they sure like to point the finger at others......I guess you qualify to throw the first stone....lol....

Does Garth own the rights to his own songs? Maybe it isn't him.
I think it is crazy how some srtists have lost the rights to their own songs.
Look at Paul McCarthy.

If he tries to prevent us from using his old materials then, they'll be prying it from my dead hands.

However, I do believe his future releases will not be available.  I do think that you can get his & Trish's new song on the May 2006 THM country.  Plus Good Ride Cowboy is already available.

He did retire, but put out a new CD in his box set that you can only buy at Wal-Mart.  He'll be back though, you'll see.

There have been at least two Garth Brooks songs released that I know of since the whole "pull my discs" thing started with him.  One is called "Tribute" and is the song about Chris LeDeux (I think it's really called "Good Ride Cowboy") and it is on a Big Country (the track isn't listed on the paper insert but listed on the disc; the other is "Love will Always Win" with his new wife, Trisha Yearwood, and is on CB60349 & SD141.

Looked these songs up, and they weren't written by Garth, which may have something to do with it. Didn't have a chance to check out "Beer Run", but probably the same case.

Chartbuster definately DID have a license to produce his songs. Once this this whole Garth situation came about, they stopped producing when the rights got pulled.

Same with most of the Henley songs as well & the ones that he did write are being produced on Uk labels that are available here as well or labels that aren't legal (or questionable) to begin with.
Chartbuster still lists Garth songs on their site right now, SOund Choice has pulled all Garth songs/discs from their site.  DooWop has pulled 99% of the Garth songs from their shelves - this is who sent out the email stating that Garth has pulled the rights as well.

That song on THM May 2006 is good, and I actually had someone request it last Sunday at a private party.

or is that re-re-retire?  How many times can you retire from the same job?

OK, this is what I just learned today. After speaking with a friend who works at Karaoke.com, I was told you can still get his old stuff (if you want it) until it runs out. Garth Brooks has signed a record deal with Disney and his stuff will no longer be on karaoke and it is correct as someone else posted that his cd's will only be available at Wal-Mart.

I will not replace messed up GB discs and will no longer buy his music. If we all do to him what we stood together and did to the Dixie Chicks...he'll be begging to be put back on karaoke and for us to buy his discs!!

Oh gawd, not THAT again......

They are BACK.... and they're gonna KICK BUTT. And I'm happy about it.

People can say what they want, they really didn't do anything besides the same thing gazads of other people on news, radio, & television do daily...... make a wise crack about the prez.

It never made them bad singers, or bad people.

Oh you refering to their "political" comment that got some peoples panties in a bunch.  Yeah ok!  Yeah I remember now, "We aren't going to play or support them.....etc, etc...."
Whatever.  If you took out 1 band over a comment they made, you'd have to take out several SEVERAL others over worse political views.

A debate is not what I meant to happen with that comment. Didn't mean to stir anything up. My view point is just that...it's mine. When they made their comments about our president (like him or not) in another country...it hurt them. That's why the big thing about their apology. I'm not saying they were right or wrong but they still took a hit.

Back to Garth....I can't believe these singers don't even acknowledge karaoke. I can't tell you how many cd's i went out and bought because I liked a song I only heard sang at karaoke. Gosh, singing your songs at karaoke should be a good thing...not bad. That means your music is liked enough to be known by so many people.

I know my dollar doesn't mean anything special but I am sure there are more people out there and as a collective whole..our dollars add up.
