I recently purchased the AWM6112 wireless microphones.  I'm using these with a PA system.  When connecting the AWM6112 with a XLR cable to my amp, I get a hum from my speakers.  There is a hum that I can hear coming from the AWM6112 box.  Is this normal?  I've also tried plugging in the AWM6112 into two other outlets in my house and I can still hear the hum.  This hum causes my speakers to hum.   I also sent an email to Audio2000's tech support.  I think that even if I get another unit, this hum is going to be there.  I also tried reversing the power cord from the unit.  The plug doesn't have a ground but even when reversing the power cord, I still get a strange noise from the speakers.  I thought about buying some sort of ground loop elinimator from Radio Shack.  I think I'm going to return the wireless microphones and get a wired one instead.

Could be just a characteristic of the reciever of the wireless.  Is it a low level hum is is it very pronounced?

Well, I can't really describe it.  I'm tempted to try and record the sound and allow you guys to hear it.  The hum or strange sound gets louder when I turn up the amp volume.  I did a test (just speaking some words) and I would feel weird speaking to people with the noise in the background.  I'd say it's very pronounced.

Also, is the hum increase as you increase the volume or does it stay constant volume no matter what you adjust? That may help with pin pointing the problem.

Are they fixed or can you change the frequency?  Might be picking up interference from something.   I had an electronic message board that I had to turn of if I used a mike with a certain frequency.

It's fixed.

One of my original fixed mikes causes lines on one of the big screen tvs.  It's not for karaoke, so it doesn't matter.   Stray electrical, microwave, inferred and RF signals are flying all around the room from neons, fluoresents, tvs, satellite dishes, microphones, cell phones, kitchen gadgets and cooler compressors.   Please turn off all electronic devices while the "fasten seatbelts" sign is lit.    Does it have a two channel reciever?    Years ago the KJ I used to go to had mikes that had one channel.   You would have a dead spot in the room somewhere.   The signal would just drop out if you entered that dead spot.   He had to move the antenna around and hope he could get the dead spot to be on the ceiling.    Lesson #1.  Always buy mikes that have two channel recievers and programable frequencies.

just a possibility but is it plugged into a power strip that is grounded or ungrounded?

I even tried a grounded power strip in an outlet that's grounded.
My Dad did ask me if the power cord was grounded or not.
The power cable that comes with the mic is two prong.
My Dad suggested that I try plugging in the power cord reversed.
It helped a little but there hum is still there.
I have the unit packed up and will ship it back this week.

It's a two channel receiver with fixed frequencies.
I have the unit in my basement in a room with no flourescent lights.

Two mikes and one two channel reciever isn't the same as one mike with a two channel reciever.   You have one channel for each mike.   If you have two mikes.
