The Crown CE-2000 is not a bad amp. The XLS 602 is in the same neighborhood and alot cheaper.

Musicians Friend has XLS 602's for $350
They are 370 watts @ 8 Ohms x2

I have 4 of them, I use them for small parties and Karaoke gigs they have worked fantastic.

I would go with the crowd noise getting louder and audio fatigue on your part, hence the need for maximum power. After that kind of abuse your ears were probably shutting down. Give yourself an award for standing up to that kind of punishment. I lucked out, I was off on the world's amature drunk night.

Everyone knows that when doing sound for a band that after each set you turn down the moniters and the mains as the ears get desensitized to the volume. Your amps don't really take very long to reach full temp when running hard so if it was a temp problem with the amp you would notice it in less than an hour. I have never seen a set up that does not require more volume as the night goes on unless you give your ears a rest for a while.
Just my two cents

Well I took your advice mostly due to the great warranty offered by Crown and the price was reasonable compared to $500  / $600 for some other AMPS

I did test the Behringer EP2500 and I liked the sound and overall AMP.
I felt very uncomfortable with the quality issues.  I guess I just didn't have the confidence  to use its as my primary and only gigging power source.

I'll give some feeback next week on the CROWN

Thanks

Thanks to ALL

Used my Crown Xls602 this weekend.  The unit was light and only 2 rack spaces which was nice.   Overall quality from what I can see - seemed good.
Sound was great.  HAd more than enough power for my small venue and I'm sure will handle any larger gigs I have in the future.
