To me that look's like Spathiphylum, or water Lily, yet I never knew that to be edible.... Here we call it "cast Iron plant", or Water Lily...  That defineately looks like a water plant..  (The top plant that is)

Not sure what the bottom is, yet in some ways it looks like celery stalk.  Or some stalk...hehehe

Common guys no right answer yet. Steven, yours is way out, Those two plants are in my backyard and there is no river or pond there. LOL

I give you some hints: the top plant is part of the ingredient of a curry paste or powder. It can be use as it is in cooking

The second plant has an aromatic smell.

People sometime use it for wrapping fish to BBQ. make the fish smell nice. but it is the rhizome that is used.

Celeriac, no it have a two parts name; the first is a citrus followed by a weed

You got half the answer Steven LOL , the second is plant lemon grass. Its commonly used in the westent kichen, just that you have not seen the actual plant.

the first is a kind of ginger, a yellow ginger.

That didn't look like a ginger plant to me for some reason. Reason being, I thought ginger was a plant with standard leafage that grows out from the stem... This plant looked as if the leaves were quite elongated, and grew up from the stem in shoots... coiled, and as they reached maturity opened up,  THat's just what the water plants do....They sprout shoots.... Now if it had the yellowish blossoms on it I'd see the ginger I suppose...hehehehehe

Steven, yours description of a ginger plant is spot on. but you are basically describing the common ginger plant. There are more than 20 species (those that I know personaly) may be there more than 100.

I think I'll just stick with houseplants  LOL    I need to find out how to water a Bromeliad dish garden with assorted other succulents... I'll stick with philodendren, Pathos, Boston Ferns, Ficus, Spathiphilum, Draceina, Rubber plants, etc...  Not familiar with Ginger species...  I'm still trying to memorize the difference between Flox, and Dianthus...
