Hey, hope you're not including me in that "yanks" comment..... My body may be here, but my heart and soul are not. I'm still a reb at heart.

Sigh, yet another serious thread turned in to flirting contest. Oh well, that's the way some of these threads end up. I don't mind it but I wish we kept this thread going on the original intent.

Sorry, no, the flirting contest is long over Eben. (read up, I won) :dancin:
The rest of this was simply talking about general stuff. And, Keith was back on track.... as I urged him to be. (again, read up)
Besides, yanno, all work and no play.... makes Keith a dull boy. LOL

I wish I had money to invest. I have a couple mutual funds and that is all. They are
nothing special. Everything got hit hard after 9-11, but now it seems they are coming back slowly. I work with a couple financial advisors and once in a while there is buzz
about a stock. I'll keep you posted.

I've found that it's much easier to get rich by lowering my standards, than earning 6 digit figures anually. I'm so tired of hearing "In your dreams", that I'm going back to sleep ! Busy few days.

Just received documentation regarding the Dana Corp. We had quite a bit of stock in the company. They are in Chapter 11 bankrupcy now. I need to find out specifically what this means.. My guess is it means it might not be the best time to make a killing selling their stock LMAO Oh well... You win some, you lose some. Importance of diversifying ones portfolio

I need to find out specifically what this means.. My guess is it means it might not be the best time to make a killing selling their stock LMAO Oh well... You win some, you lose some. Importance of diversifying ones portfolio I am not a lawyer and each state differs on bankrupcy law but here is what I know about bankrupcy. If it's chapter 11, it's to reorganize, if it's chapter 7, it's liquidation. If it's chapter 7, then the company is to be liquidated and the whatever assets leftover, minus the lawyer fees, are to be divided among the creditors. That means those holding bills gets paid first (did I mention that the lawyers get the first cut?), then the bond holders, then if anything leftover, stock holders. Even stock holders have different priority. Usually the preferred stock holders have priority over common stocks. Guess who usually holds preferred stocks? Insitutional investors and officers of the company. Rest of the us gets the common stock. However, if the company finishes off chapter 7, you get to write off on your taxes as loss but only against any capital gain. As for chapter 11, that means the company wants to reorganize and come back after. Sometimes, the stock sales are halted until they emerge from the bankrupcy but often it's still traded. Usually what happens is the company will try to renegotiate with creditors so that they pay pennies per dollar on what they owe. However, it's not free. Usually they throw in some kind of security to go with it, like stock or bond. Sometimes the bond holders are renegotiated as well. So what usually happens is that the stock gets diluted, often 2x or 3x what was issued before. So, now your stock is worth half or third of what it was before when they re-emerge from chapter 11. It's crap shot because if the company gets back on track, then the stock will go back up to pre chapter 11 days. However, right away, the stocks are worthless. My suggestion is to check with your accountant or lawyer on the situation but you would be better off holding on to them for a LONG investment. If you do sell the stock, you can write off your loss against any gain. Make sure you check with someone who knows more about this before making any moves though. Keith02 @ Wed Mar 29, 2006 5:30 pm wrote: ...Anyway, whats your take on the countries' present economic situation?...Where do you have your funds stashed?
I think it's still better to invest in the stock market rather than bond market unless fed raise interest rate more. There are some stellar stocks out there for next 3-5 years that will be good. Some stocks that has done well in the past or me is in high tech market. Adobe and Apple is almost sure thing for mid term investment. I think Google had it's run. Although it may still run up for more, I think you can make money shorting it for mid term. If you are uncomfortable with specific stock, stick to mutual funds. My personal choice is international stock funds for next 1-2 years, specially in China and India.
I am not sure about precious metal market. It had a good run but not sure if there is more leg to it. I think it does because of the insatiable appetite for copper, steel and gold by China for manufacturing will continue to drive the price up. I would stay away from oil speculation, too much risk. I think that house market bubble is not coming anytime soon. I think it will slow down but will continue to grow. Some stock in housing company for long term would be a good idea.
Let me think of some more but that's MY OPINION. Please don't come back and sue me for misinformation in the future. LOL
