Yeah, I noticed there was no theme...? I think it would be cool to go along with the theme from the American Idol episodes. It would make it easier to come up with theme weeks for the next month at least. Like this week was from the last 6 yrs., etc. ??

IDK... just me thinking again...

Good idea! I don't watch AI so I didn't know they have themes.

I did away with the theme - I have been so busy with the other items - that I just removed it...

Eventually, maybe, I will restart it...

Thanks

It has been awhile since I posted - the theme section was kinda cool!

But it should have been better organized so that past themes showed what theme they were for.

Are you working on that as well?

While your at it didn't we use to vote on themes?

Are we going to get that ability again as well?

Do I ask too many questions?

Phil ran out of people to put up polls for the themes so we could vote, and people stopped voting, and Phil never had time to change the themes anyway, soo.....

I agree, I liked them because they gave me recording ideas.

Yep yep yep!!  I hadn't been here in a while and came back to see what the theme was... When I'm in the mood to sing something but don't know what to do, I check out the theme.  I've even ordered a CD to post a theme song before.

Once Idol gets into the finals, they theme most of the weeks. They range from Billboard #1 hits to Great American Songbook songs to Broadway songs (didn't do it this year, tho). Most of them are based on the guest artist that week.

Coming up with themes is tough, but you can always reuse the ones from a few years ago!!

I agree that we need to see what the theme was for "theme posts" after the theme has changed, or remove the "theme" flag.

I don't think coming up with themes was so difficult...we had a long list we used, plus we can always start over if need be.  The problem was Phil finding someone who wanted to post the polls (so that members could vote on which themes to use) and then Phil finding time to put the theme up for each week. I did the polls for a while, but I just didn't have time any more. I haven't even had time to record songs lately!

Why not do it for the month instead of the week? would make changing the theme easier.

I noticed the lack of theme too....I didn't get too upset, it makes me not feel left out when I don't feel like following the crowd lol

I always felt guilty when I didn't follow the theme....then the guilt went away and I sang what I wanted...LOL. Although I have to admit I did participate in a few...I just won't say which ones...

Besides THEMES, I really miss that sections where it showed the top-ranked people and songs...I liked going there and hearing the "best" songs.

And whatever happened to the jukebox idea?

I think they need to hire some more help on the site to get this stuff done and help Phil out ;)

I appreciate the site and what they do, though...just seems like it's not as good as it was when I first joined, some of the features missing or not kept updated, and new ones not implemented. Plus it is really slow loading sometimes (the pages, not the songs).  Just griping :)  I really do love the site!

:hi5:

Oh, and of course the SINGERS and the PEOPLE are what make it great...lately seems like everyone is sounding great. The special benefit, too, of coming here for a year or more is that it's great to hear when people improve, too.  You can really tell when people improve either their singing or their recording/mixing skills.

:oh yeah:

I personally think the simpler the better. The "best" singers according to ratings were not necessarily the best singers on the site. I know, I went and listened to a lot of them when I joined here. The rating system here is flawed, for one people aren't held responsible when they dump a score after making a nice comment. I am not talking about giving a 9. I am talking about people who continually give really low scores after singing someone's praises. I think this site should be kept simple. We have a song and artist and username search, that should be sufficient. This place shouldn't be a competition, it takes all the fun out of posting then.

I think your argument, though, is against the rankings themselves...if we're going to have rankings, why not list then in order? I just enjoyed listening to those as well as all the regular subs....

I don't look at it as competition with others, I look at it as competition with myself and my past subs :)

Why not have them for people who want them? Isn't there room for both? People who don't want them don't have to choose to have rankings, use the ranking feature, or even look at them, right? So why not let the people who want them have them?

Boy I missed all the fun. By the time I started submitting songs the
theme was gone and being able to see the high ranking people was gone.
I like the idea of theme of the month.
