Can you beleive the chicken little guy is still hanging on.
Okay I understand he has the cute nerd factor, but come on,
he sings poorly and dances like a dork. Who is voting for this kid?

I'm still favoring Taylor Hicks and the rock dude.  :hi5:

and why does Paula always act like a drunk teenager?

You know, I don't watch the show...... but my husband griped me into the living room last week, cause he wanted me to see the gray haired guy (Taylor??)..... and they were talking to the contestants. At one point, the chicken little guy made the comment that he "had been made to be the sex symbol of this American Idol"..... and I was like "Oooooo- Kay". He's cute, but a dork. A big dork. I think he's there by compassion only.

Now the dude with long blonde hair..... he's just cool. And an awesome singer. And hot. He should win IMO.  :dancin:  (though the gray haired guy seemed pretty cool too.... he's just not hot)

I saw the show last week all the way thru for the first time ever.  People are probably just voting for the nerd kid out of spite against Simon - kind of an anti-talent statement.  That long haired guy did do a good version of that Stevie Wonder song.  All the female singers in the last half of the show (don't remember their names) were very good I thought.

Last nights show was good. Barry Manilow is awesome. I never cared
much for him before. He really is a very talented song writer. It was amazing
how he helped those kids. He made sure they were singing in the right key and
rewrote the songs to fit them. Stevie Wonder was cool last week, but half the kids were singing in the wrong key for them.
Right now Chris the rocker is by far the best! I'm not judging on looks alone.

My thoughts on last night's show...

1) Chris' performance on "I Walk the Line" blew my mind.  That boy has talent.  Truthfully, if I had that song on a CD I'd be spinning it at my DJ gigs.
2) The gray haired guy did good, but just out of curiosity, how old is he?
3) Didn't think McPhee did as good as Simon said
4) Chicken Little was not the best but was definately better than 3 or 4 of the other contestants.

Taylor didn't do that great last night - very boring song for him-

Kellie...  my goodness, the ditziness is unbelievable!  I think she wore yellow just so that she could feel "Brighter".  Fantastic job on her song though.

I thought that was the best she's ever done vocally - She
seemed so stiff though. If she would have loosened up a
bit I think she would have done better. She has come along way since the beginning.
I have to admit she cracks me up with her Jessica Simpson like personality.

I haven't watched anything past the initial auditions this time...However based on all the people from Texas that they told were too good and they couldn't have another winner from Texas.....I give you this:

IMO..I don't think that Kellie girl has a chance at all....The horror that it would be if they had 2 winners with the same name....

Okay, okay........ I kinda got drug into the show now. (after swearing I wouldn't watch it any more)

And I gotta say..... It's refreshing sometimes to hear Simon tell the truth. I agreed with alot of his comments last night.

I only saw the last half, cause I watched Nashville Star first. (which is- a JOKE- they can't critique properly to save their lives....) But, yanno, I understand the music better.

I did see Chris perform the JC song..... and I'm probably gonna be the ONLY one to say..... he f'd it up too much for my liking. He's a hail of a singer & performer, but that was just...... taking an old classic too far off the beaten path for me. I mean, in my personal opinion..... You don't screw with Johnny Cash songs, any more than you should a Hank Sr song. Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned- but that song sickened me to listen to.

I'm all for Taylor. He's just got charisma, AND he's good to boot. (though yeah, last nights song was a bit too drab for him)

Rats!  Can't believe I'm missing Nashville Star!  We've been looking for it but apparently not in the right places!

Richard was working on the Mustang with a friend in the garage and due to an unrelated problem ended up throwing the breaker to the main part of the house!!  This stopped the DVR of American Idol from 7:28 until I noticed it at 8:04!!  We missed Chris, Taylor and Katherine... We did watch the playback and also believe that the Johnny Cash song shouldn't have been "redone" that much (as much as we like Chris).  The snippet they gave on Taylor was boring and Richard wondered out loud what the heck Katherine was doing in that dress!  At the end of the show when she was standing next to Ryan we thought we saw a part of her peeking out! LOL

After the last 3 weeks I think Mandisa finally made it back to show off some of her talent and Lisa (who I've always liked & Richard hasn't) was booooring!  We're getting a little tired of the dumb act that Kellie puts on and wondered about her enunciation on that song, that didn't sound like any hick we know and we live in Oklahoma!  :)

BTW, did anyone think Elliot may have messed up his song due to his faux pas about not being fond of Manilow before he met him!!!  OMG & WOW!!  Stick foot in mouth!  I don't think he took Manilow's suggestion to heart as he started punching the first line 1/2 way through instead of "feeling" it.  I think Elliot is a good singer but may concentrate to much on the technical aspect of it and not enough of losing yourself....  Admittedly that would be exremely difficult but it is a whole other level of singing and performance..

Great topic!
Susie :)

Susie- You've only missed two episodes.

http://www.usanetwork.com/series/nashvillestar/

What gets me, is once again......... Is this really the BEST 10 they could come up with? I'm left thinking again this series, that I hear alot better at karaoke than what I hear on the show. They do have some pretty good ones this time.... but some of them.... are just so-so.

And you missed Gretchen Wilson singing as a guest on there last night... dunno if you like her.... but she did two songs. And as usual, she was very good live.

Thanks!  Glad we've only missed two!

I know what you mean, we hear such fantastic singers at karaoke; & not just one or two songs per great singer!

We saw Gretchen Wilson live when we did the Kennyoke at the venue here in OKC last year.   Neither of us is/was a big fan of hers but we do love it when our singers do her songs.  I do "I Don't Wanna Talk About Last Night".

We weren't real impressed with her performance with the exception of some 70's rock she sang ; that and we had worked right up until the concert and knew we were working right after, plus we didn't really know her stuff except what was receiving radio play at the time.... but she definitely grows on you!

Yeah, the best is still yet to come I imagine. My favorite part is always when they have them compose their own song & sing it. Wynonna & Larry the Cable Guy are doing hosting. ( LOL )

You mean "I Dont' Feel Like Loving You Today".... that has got to be my favorite song on her new CD. I don't normally like to sing slow songs.... but when I first heard that one, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I love it, and I have sang it to.... though not out live ever. Emotional slow songs, I can't do live. I chicken out.  LOL

Well, even I can admit (as much as I like her) that the endless beer drinking/partying songs out of one singer can get tiresome. But what impresses me the most is she is herself live..... she's just natural, and she's good. I don't see anything false in her... even down to the jeans and t-shirts... she's just who she is. And that is something I admire in people.

I dunno the re-do of walk the line seemed pretty darn cool to me.  I could see that on the radio as a matter of fact- its very similar to some of the newer rock bands style of "power ballads" (??).   Think 3 doors down or Nickelback.   Chris is my call for top 3 this year.

Kevin-  he's this year's "shouldn't be there but still is" person.  The "hottie" part is a joke-- nobdody is serious about that one.

Bucky doesn't seem very good to me and he speaks like he has marbles in his mouth

Come on- who's really buying the Pickler "hee haw honey" act?  That's getting old-- but she is a cutie.  maybe top 5 in my book

Mandissa - good voice, sorry but wrong look... probly top 5-6 tho

Simon is usually pretty spot on even though goof in the audience boo him.
Paula  seems (and probably is) wasted.  Her behavior is stranger this season than in others.  She's the love fest judge-- rarely anything neg.
Randy - dog this dog that.  He seems to be the middle of the road judge.

You can certainly tell based on their comments, who they want to get thru to next round.

I agree with your description of the judges, except:

Simon, I've noticed, is sometimes a bit easier on someone who is one of his favorites. I've heard him offer praise where he shouldn't have before.  And a few times- though usually only in the preliminaries, he's been an A$$ for no reason.

Randy.... needs to just in a corner with a stupid look on his face, wearing a t-shirt that says "Dude....". He's worthless for the most part. (IMO)

Paula is truly acting like an overgrown teenage flirt. (and yes, a drunk or high one) You'd think a woman her age would have it down pat by now, but NO, she still flirts in the silly way a 14 year old would. My honest opinion..... she'd give anything to have at Simon, she just doesn't want the world to see it, and is too immature to hide it properly..... even in their arguments/disagreements, she acts silly.

well i'm not sure i ever missed a show of A l....but sad to say i did miss nashville star lastnight, that sucks....

i think kelly will go a long ways just on her personallity, truth is i can't wait for her song to be over so i can hear what she has to say, and yes i believe her accent is real, plenty down here talk like that, but of course not me...lol...

Chris will win it
taylors growing on me, his last few wks have been very good, up till then i wasn't very impressed.

Ace is history, looks can only get u so far, trust me i know, i can't get down the stairs with mine...

i think the big black lady can really sing great, not sure shes had a bad night yet...

the pretty black haired girl does great also, but i wasn't very impressed lastnight, plus i do think shes prego...the fathers always the last to know i guess....

the DORK has got to GOOOOOOO,  thats all i have to say about him, and thats to much...

who's going home tonight? THE DORKKKKKK i hope, but i don't believe so, sucks huh..

as bad as i hate to say it because i really like her, ok i must not like her a lot because i don't remember her name...lol...the young black girl no not Paris...shes been off for a few wks now....but shes cute as can be

i think Paris will make it to the top hmmmmmmm, 4 then shes gone

top three?  in order

Chris
Taylor
Kelly/Kellie

and i'm not really into Chris's style of musc but the boy can sing, and sticks to his roots, i never liked Johnny Cash that much sure never liked I WALK THE LINE...so it was a safe bet there was no way he could hurt that song....JMO...

I love hearing the original songs.  Did you know they don't have to be the writer?  There were auditions in OKC metro and we know a song writer locally, unfortunately the hook-up didin't happen this year...

LOL - I can't believe I screwed up on naming the song!!! No excuses!   I ought to know what I sing!

I actually love to sing slow songs but SOMETIMES try to refrain from them as I'm supposed to pump people up, not slow them down!

Yes, she did seem pretty down to earth...  On the screen behind the stage before she came out and during one of her songs they showed pictures of her daughter...
