Does anyone have any experience with a Karaoke Studio?
I would love some feedback regarding opening an alcohol free "family friendly" studio and problems related with a storefront.
Thanks,
Cleansed

If you just want to record, there is all kinds of software & stuff to allow you to use your computer. Or you can just rent a recording studio & bring in the karaoke player & discs. Never heard of any "karaoke" studios except for the little karaoke boxes that you rent for a few hours, but don't think those have recording capability.

Thanks Lonman,
I'm looking for some opinions regarding opening a storefront buisness where folks can come in and karaoke then leave with a CD.
I want it to be a family friendly envirement.
Any thoughts.

Possible big legal problems in doing so - major copyright & publiching issues.

Lonman,
Do you know of anyone who has gone the route of getting permission from Karaoke companies for making recordings?

Wouldn't mechanical licensing from HarryFox.com, cover the legal issues of it?

From what I understand from others (heresay I know) that have researched it, Harry Fox doesn't do anything with karaoke tracks. They license original artist recordings.

Cleansed,
Here is a location in Texas that does recording on karaoke. i have never been there but I hear it is pretty good. And by looking at their website their location looks pretty extensive....
maybe this will help a bit
http://www.traxcity.com/
We have another one that I know of also called Karaoke Store too...It is locally owned, a husband and wife team...They sell CDG's and they have a small room in the back for recording... They do not have a website...If you would like the number so you can call and ask questions PM me...

Reading at the Harry Fox site, is says they have nothing to do with reproducing CDG tracks, but in the case of what Cleansed wants to do, is only reproduce the music, not the actual CDG track. Which brings me to my question...Does the original artist still hold the copyright for the music on CDG tracks?
Looking at the image below, gleaned from a Sound Choice/Third Eye Blind track, it says nothing about SC holding a copyright to the track, Only 3EB (third eye blind) and EMI. I dunno, maybe splitting hairs, but a query to HarryFox.com should clear it up.

It also could be viewed as Cleansed merely renting his karaoke equipment.
Just like they rent karaoke rooms with the equipment inside. If some people are having a small party inside that room, aren't they allowed to record sounds of the party?
If I rent my karaoke equipment to someone and they go break the law with it by either infringing on copyrights or hitting someone on the head with the rented mic, am I liable?
Is UHAUL liable if I break the law with their rented lawnmower by destroying my neighbor's Pansy garden?
Anyone here use Limewire for downloading songs? Well, they have you assert that you won't be doing any copyright infringement, and that assertion absolves them from any infringement that their users might do.
Just a thought

Renting your room, equipment and or expertise to do something that is not legal make you party to the act
