What CDG's should I invest in?
Is there a certain series or collection that one should not be without?
What is the biggest/best bang for the buck?

Sound Choice are generally the best, Pop Hits & Top Hits Monthly are also pretty good for newer music & Chartbuster good for country.
Any company will have their hits & misses even these mentioned, just that these are less misses & more hits regarding quality, accuracy & sound.

I agree with Lonman (a rareity) on SC and CB...

Get Chartbuster Essentiasl, and Sound Choice bricks if you are starting out.  They provide the biggest BANG for the buck.

Nothing in the world is "The Best", but SC is a pretty good choice if you want to start

when you can listen to Radio Starz . I find them to be the best, however the selections are limited

True Radio Stars do have some great tracks.

I own both S C and Radio Starz.  They are some of the best cdg's around.

what makes SC the best... is their diversity of music! AND that they listen to their customers! go to their community board, and request songs! If it's not TOO obscure, you will be surprised what they can come up with. Not EVERYTHING I've suggested has been produced, but a good many. AND there's always patience that they WILL produce the others! !

I'd agree that Soundchoice are one ..if not the best overall manufacturer out there.
But they are FAR the most expensive .  You need to balance you needs...BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK...not Soundchoice ...I would say as far as required Karaoke goes DK MILLENNIUM is the best BANG FOR THE BUCK.  Not the very best out there but above average and a very good starter set.  The DK will cost you about $.58 per song while the Sound Choice will be almost double $1.11 per song.  There are some very good cdgs besides Sound Choice out there.  Like already said --some good tracks and some bad ones.

I also prefer Sound Choice first, then Chartbuster.  However I have found that Music Maestro seems to do a better job more often of the early 50's and 60's tunes.  ie. I have SC version of "Unchained Melody."  But have found the Music Maestro version more accurate.  Just my two cents.

Kelly agree ....Music Maestro for 50's (doo wop type) music is Great

INITIAL INVESTMENT:
1) Search for a real good deal on Sound Choice Foundation 1, 2 and the 5 Bricks...  This is the best starter set available.  Buy them used if you must, watch for them on ebay.
2) Get a subscription to Top Hits Monthly for your new stuff.  I get the Pop, Country, Rock, and HipHop CDs plus two bonus CD+Gs for about $60.00 a month.

BANG FOR THE BUCK
3) Subscribe to karaoke mail lists.  I used Pro Sing quite a bit...  These sites will send great weekly deals.  I've bought a lot of quality CD+Gs from these sites.
4) Get Caught Up.  I bought the last 3-4 years of music by getting Star Disc & Northstar CD+Gs for $1.99 each brand new.  Now these are not the best sounding versions available but a good sound system will make them sound decent.  Personally, I like the StarDisc Country, but the Pop leaves a lot to be desired.
5) Music Maestro.  I bought package deals off of ebay that gave me like 15 CDs for $3-$4 a piece.  Plus, they are out of business and you can catch single CD+Gs in the $5 - $10 range.
6) If your looking at building a library quickly and cheaply you might also want to look into the 66 Disc Sweet Georgia Brown set.  Personally I do not like SGB, but I did buy a couple of them because I needed a certain song that was on it.

7) Sound Choice, THM, PHM, Pioneer, Music Maestro, DK, Chartbuster Country, Star Disc Country

CD+Gs that I try to stay away from:
Sweet Georgia Brown, Backstage, Star Disc Pop, Top Tunes, All-Star, Keynote, Karaoke Bay

I personally LOVE the smaller disc sets like All Hits, Dangerous, Helluvadisc... only because they give you songs that nobody else really is.

I mean, SC just yesterday announced they were doing "Kid is Hot Tonite" by Loverboy... where All Hits had that covered ten years ago!!

Agree for the most part - except the SC sets will only take them to aprox 2000 (year).  Pop Hits Monthly has a Millenium set out as well that covers basically 2000-2004 (or 5), THEN get current discs - if needed.  My shows don't require the newest discs (or at least I could do fine without them).  Most of my new (Monthlies) discs just sit on the shelf gathering dust.  MOST of my requests are for older music between 60's - 90's.  Only heavy new music that gets done are country.

Well, I guess I agree with you all if it's for Karaoke purposes, but no way will I say that SC has the best sound overall for studio recording. I find them to be way too commercial sounding, not enough acoustic instruments used and too often on the wrong key compared to the original.

They've made some very good rock arrangement and some great Elton John stuff but I often use Pocket Song (poor graphic), Music Meastro, Chartbuster (some are EXCELLENT) and Legends.

Yes, overall, SC his excellent on it's graphic and it's really for karaoke purposes, but they have this electronic sounding that could drive you crazy if you wish to use for recording.

hey lonnie, I did a quick search and found individual discs from 2000 to present but no sets. You wouldn't happen to have a set number on the millenium package would you.....

I would be very interested in getting my hands on a set like that.

I use mostly SC and Chartbuster.  I really enjoy the Chartbuster versions of most songs, not just the country tunes.  They are priced really agressively. They are much higher quality than SGB and Music Maestro types...  I also agree that there essential packs are a great deal.
