I am getting ready to do a private party, and the host told me he had some songs on his Ipod he would like to use.
I see no problem, just need an adapter from the headset jack to convert to either 1/4 or rca type inputs to my Peavey 680 powered amp.
Since I have not connected one before, I was curious and was hoping someone could give suggestions on what or what not to do. Most of my inputs are line-level inputs, and from what it looks like, this will be using an amplified signal from the headset jack. Recommendations???

I use iPod for filler music between singing and it works great. I bought one of the 1/4" to micro plug cable (stereo and customer made I believe) from ebay and it's been great. Let me check tonight to be sure that the cable is what I said it is and let you know. I have it connected to one of the stereo inputs, not tape input, of Mackie mixer and it has been working fine. Good luck.

iPod out is Hot (Gain Heavy).
I used my wife's as a test for a possible back up solution. I works you just need a mixer input with gain control, so it doesn't distort.

I use a Creative Labs Nomad for my filler music. Just get a 1/8" to RCA adapter, then plug the RCAs into one of the stereo channels of your mixer OR the STER IN channel of your mixer. If the iPOD comes out gain heavy, pump the volume on the iPod down to like 50% to get more gain and volume control from the mixer for that particular channel!!

Just to confirm, I checked the cable and it had mini plug on one side for the iPod, other side was dual 1/4" which I plugged in to my stereo input of Mackie. It was a custom cable I bought on ebay. Good luck with it.
