I guess I'm a bit confused Bab's.  What I don't understand is that you appear, (at least based upon certain things you've stated in KS) to be somewhat frail in terms of your level of tolerance to certain things.  You mentioned at one point that even the sexual innuendo, and comments in these threads, (which is general VERY tame compared to most internet venues, nothing graphic is allowed here for instance) tends to bother you.. I just find it surprising, almost paradoxical I suppose, that you "like the horror category".. It's not a category for the delicate viewer in ANY aspect...

..

I am not frail by any means - I have been able to live in a man's world. I've been a single parent for 11 years. Doing all kinds of odd jobs to stay a float. I've roofed houses, fixed plumbing, laid a wood floor, you name it. I've learned to be mom and dad. I work in a rough bar 3 nights a week and learned if you don't ask for respect your not going to get it. There is a line to draw and if you don't let people know where your line is they don't know. I'm not frail I just like to be respected as a woman. I would like to think I am classy, but not snobby. I don't like to judge people
until I know them.

I climbed to the 6th rung of a ladder once.  Almost made it 1/5 of the way to the top...  I painted cuprinol on a balcony once.... Good thing it was only about two feet off the ground !

Well, It turns out I'm the one who's "frail".... Oh well...Hey, So I am....Not gonna pout about it...It's me   :?    Maybe tonight I'll take a handful of valium, and see if I can watch more than the first 10 minutes of the exorcist this time (without changing the channel like I did years ago after I started watching the curtains blowing in that old dark house)   Amityville is another one I didn't have the guts to watch....

Texas Chain Saw Murders, et.al.

LOL.  I have that movie in my hand now..  In fact I should throw the damn thing out...

"It did for meat eating, what Psycho did for taking a shower"

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

"This is a bizarre, and tragically gruesome account of what happened to five young friends one summer afternoon in rural texas. After hearing reports of grave robbing, the group sets out to check on a family grave.  Soon after one-by-one they wonder into the murderous clutches of Leather-face (Gunnar Hansen). This is the scare classic that possesses an undying power to frighten audiences again and again.  It's ability to truly horrify is so strong that when the movie first opened, some people actually walked out of a sneak preview in a state of shock.

"R"

1993 All new restored version-uncut and unedited...

   Anyone want a movie ????

Any of you watch "Rosemary's Baby" ?  ANother classic I own yet never watched.

How about the sequel to "Silence of the Lambs", or is this the first movie "Manhunter".. Haven't seen that yet.  If you want to see a true story that's pretty scary, watch Rampage..  It's the Richard Ramirez story.  About a psychotic preditor...well acted.  LOL   (If you like horror that is) It's clean in terms of horror. Might watch "The hand that rocks the cradle" this week.

I wish I never lent out my european version of "The Vanishing",  that was classic !

I just have the Jeff Bridges american make... Lend out a movie, and never see it again  :(

I found "Blair Witch" pretty scary.  Especially the part where they are walking down the steps of that old house at the end, and the camcorder falls on the floor... and than the kids are standing in the corner facing the wall  :(

I love scary movies and sci-fi. But keep those chick flicks away from me!
There have been a few I have liked, but not many.

I know this will surprise Kappy too - I've played competitive billiards and played on
a championship softball team. Yes you can be all girlie and do these things. They used to tease me on my softball team because I would always have my nails done.
Yes I have had a few torn off. Talk about pain. As for billiards - I am good, but not great. I couldn't stay in the money enough to keep doing it.

Yea... I watched Rosemary's Baby.  Lots of suspense.. but .. eh... didn't do a lot for me.  Oh .. and you may KEEP the Texas Chainsaw Murders... and the likes of those.  As far as I am concerned... they were just disgusting... at least the first 1/2 hour or so (I didn't watch the whole thing, NO Thank YOU!!)

Reddragon .... VERY poorly made ... interesting conceptually...and suspensful... but again, pretty gross.

.............and Silence of the Lambs II.....absolutely one of the most DISGUSTING movies ever made... IMO.  After the excellence of the first ... I have never been sooooo dissappointed in a sequel.  Again.. only watched about 1/2 of it.. just found it all "shock value" ... and NO story.... and about as GROSS as a movie can be in the "violence and blood" category.

As I said.. I like GOOD suspense... but I much prefer, at the end of a movie.. to feel like I've been entertained.... and its been "well done".  I guess for me, there is a lot to be said for  "good" acting.  I can handle most "anything" if the movie has pretty good acting ... and the story SUPPORTS the violence .. etc.

I don't know Babs... I just loved The Notebook and Message In A Bottle... chick flix... but great feel good stories.. just the same.  Give me movies like City of Angels ... Pretty Woman ... Spanglish... anyday.  I walked away for all of 'em feeling "relaxed"... even tho in some cases they were sad or tragic at the end.

Oh well.. time to get some more coffee... and watch the news.  Now THAT .... I CAN watch regardless of the story.  Yea, it is often sadly violent and graphic... but such are the realities of our world.  I can handle REAL... even if it is often VERY tough to take.  I think people SHOULD watch the news .. to be honest with ya.  Sometimes... in order for things to get better ... people need to see .. with "eyes wide open" ... what is WRONG.

Happy St. Patty's Day...everyone!

Shotgun-  LMAO  I beleive they call that construction blow

The thing about chick flicks is they make me all emotional. I don't
like that feeling. I did see notebook - great movie. But it made me cry.

Your name isn't actually Ewa Mataya Laurence is it ?

CCindy,  Texas Chainsaw isn't going in my VCR.  You have more guts than I.  Silence of the Lambs 2 ?   No thanks.  I didn't find the first movie to be spectacularly done.. Just thought although the cast was good, the movie wasn't that great.  Sort've like "Jurassic Park",  the first 1/2 hour was spectacular, yet from a scientific perspective (even though the movie was of course sci-fi,  the beginning of that movie was presented as an excellent documentary on dinosaurs)..after that however I might as well been watching any other monster movie.... It sucked IMHO once it got into the (hiding from the man-eating monsters theme)... Yet the beginning was spectacularly done IMHO... It's tough to keep up the pace when something start's out that exciting.  Just like Jennifer 8.. The beginning really was scary and had people on the edge of their seats, yet to keep up with that level of suspense throughout is tough, a few of the movies almost reached their peak of anxiety inducing thriller content in the beginning, leaving the remainder of the show a tough act to follow....

Another thing I wonder about.. Remember the Movie Malice, (with Baldwin, and Kidman ?)  What significance did the serial murderer the husband found in the school play given the theme of the movie ?  It just seemed to take the viewer off in a different direction, a non-related beginning twist of sorts, yet insignificant throughout the rest of the movie,  perhaps just a means of sensitizing the viewer to keep the viewer hooked ?  I didn't understand how that tied in with the theme of the movie,  having a killer in the school..

Bab's obviously you've been blessed with very good hand/eye coordination... Pool is a fascinating geometric game requiring intricate hand/eye skill.  I wish I had that.  I do not. Even baseball/softball,  you have a type of coordination many of us lack...  I used to catch baseballs with my eye socket, mouth, etc.. Even took a few fast pitches to the pelvis in my day !    I was good like that  :)

Not sure I really understand the definition of what type movie would be considered a "chick flick" ?   How does a "chick flick" differ from something we guys would watch..

Sort've like when a couple of guys get together and spoon on the couch while watching Sister's, or Golden Girl's reruns ?  You know,  male bonding shows n stuff !
