CDR WIN no longer finds my plextor burner.
It says no cdrom recording device was found on the SCSI or IDE bus.

I have been trying everything I can think of for the last 2 days. I have tried every version of CDR WIN on their site and none work.

Every other buring program I have works just fine, but I really want to burn a karaoke cd to go out and sing I haven't gone out to sing on a night off in over a year.

I would assume that no other programs see it either.
This might be reaching but do you have your Plextor set for cable select slave or master?
Try the Plextor in another pc and see what happens.
Double check the bios and see what it's set for.

I had the same problem when I upgraded to my Plextor 716A, then after downloading the Plex upgrades and upgrading to CDRWin 4.x it worked. Hope that helps.

If you use other program e.g. Hoster, does that still recognise your drive?

Had this happen once....I lost both CD's and the floppy...swapping drives would not fix it, reinstalling drivers would not fix it....I even replaced the motherboard....nothing would fix it....

Turned out the wife was using kazza and she had downloaded a bad virus embedded in a song file....I had to install an additional new HDD and a new OS and then recover what was left of our undamaged files from the old drive....Then reformat the old drive.

If you have mp3/video files from other than legal sources, then you need to segregate them and scan each with a very good virus program before you play them.

...and no, i ain't saying you posess illegal files, i'm just saying it might be a virus.

I would update your ASPI Drivers for both Plextor and Your Program. Restart then check again.

Did you buy a new plextor drive? or Upgrade the CDRWin recently to bring about this change or did it just happen by itself?

Did you recently install or download a burning program? One time I downloaded Roxio (burning program) and it did similar things to what you are experiencing. I un-installed the program and rebooted and everything was just fine.

Yep, that too...I once installed a Nero DVD burning program that caused me to lose my drives.

Im psychic but not that good Need some info to give an answer
How old is it? has it see a lot of use?
When you put in a cd does the light turn amber then green in a short amount of time (reading index)?
Has it been having trouble reading cd's or the index?
Have you reseated the ide plugs?  Is it on the same ide with hard drive? slave?
Go into tools in cdrwin are you using cdrwin aspi or windows?
With the door open look in with a flashlight see if there is a bunch of junk (hairs etc)
I have cleaned the optics on a lot of plextors but they are very delicate.
ITs not  unusual for one to fail without having minor problems first (  have gone thru about 4 or 5).....
