Nah.....don't elevate this to legal level, or you will lose the gig fersure.

Any mention of lawyers will scare the owner away from your show...He will just find someone else more agreeable.

It boils down to Babs and her history with bar and where she draws the line....Odds are she really enjoys hosting her show and likes the extra money....I doubt any small bar owner will ever be sued for recording a karaoke act, and you can believe the bar owner has a crust on him that comes from years of dealing with liability issues...His whole business is a liability trap...He balances risks everyday.

It might be best to just mention it is illegal to record copyrighted materials and see if the fact spurs him want to learn more...if he shrugs it off, then do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Wow Kappy you really took this to the dark side. There is some grey area here.
I am not a complete wus!
I like that it has been discussed enough I can get all angles and I actually
appreciate your worst case scenario, Kappy.
I have spoke up before and that is why I now have my own bouncer. Is the owner a butt to deal with, yes.
The man that plans on doing this is not doing it for capital gain. He enjoys Karaoke and wanted to record his own singing and thought it would be a neat idea to include more people. This is not a contest.
With all of your ideas I want to make sure no one plans on selling this cd. I can't imagine anyone wants to buy it, exept the people who will be recorded. By the way, most of these people don't sing well. I plan on talking to the owner and the man doing it, so some guidelines are set. If I don't agree with what they plan on doing with this cd I won't allow it to happen.
I would never just stay home and say I was sick. I have a back bone and can speak my mind. I put up with unexpected crap I can not control. If I know it is coming my way I can do something about it.
The fact of the matter is - I am his business. I bring in a lot of people in and I have a lot of true blue followers. He knows this. I just pick my fights carefully.
I know this will cause me more work for the night and I don't want peoples feelings hurt. I think I can nip the legal issues in the butt by making sure this will not be sold.
Kappy thanks for your input and your worry for me, but I don't think it is as bad as you think. You actually made me feel better about the situation.

For some reason, my spell checker keeps wanting to change that to 'psychotic'  :O  j/k

Babs, if they are just doing if for personal recording of their own songs, then that sounds a little different from the impression I got from previous posts.  If they are using mic's to pick up the sound, it may be ok, but it could be better to connect to you and get a cleaner signal for recording.  If it is only for personal recordings, and you feel confident in the situation, go for it.  If they are charging folks, you could ask for a portion as your 'connection' fee for better sound signal - or make a deal and let them compensate you with CDG's or others things.  And of course, get yourself recorded for free.....

Good Luck

Well the two terms aren't mutually excluse !

One of the terms is just a knack,  the other is a way of life !

And some of us just have a knack for that way of life......

Like I keep telling folks that try and say I am warped......

Warped is for amateurs, I am way past that, all the way to bent.  Just remember, if something is warped, it can usually be straightened out, but once it gets bent..... no going back!

I guess I'm not bent quite yet.  People keep telling me to "get bent".  So you must have a point.
