while I am sure it won't play KMA, anything copied as kma would have to be reconverted but roxbox convertor is pretty goop and it is free with the ability to use KJPro's database or one that Frank provides with it. MY understanding is his was compiled by submissions of CSV files from users so it may not contain up and coming stuff that KJPRO may have in their updated database.
to play it you have to go into winamp and do the following:
play vcd file(.dat) in winamp
1.go to options-->preferences menu

2.select plugins-->input

3.select nullsoft directshow decoder

4.click under button Configure

5.add this text ";.DAT" with "MPG;MPEG;M2V;AVI;ASF;WMV" it

6.ok.

7.play (.dat) file with winamp.

I got this info off of winamps forum and it worked for me - it means I can add four or five new discs onto my computer's external drive.
to get them named to work with roxbox's databse takes a few steps

Hi All
The last comment in the quote  " but I have a multiplex button on my mixer to handle that "....really piqued my interests.....While MTU Hoster does address this problem , I am not very comfortable with only one Hoster Company offering this  ( Multiplex )
Can anyone please tell me which mixer can do this?....

Regards

I use the VocoPro DA-1000 and it has the Multiplex function.
Swift Elite and Swift Ultralite were the first to address MultiPlex, Not Hoster.
KJamp which is still in the building stages will address it when it comes out as well.

DannyG2006,
Are you either the owner of roxbox, or a retailer for it. It seems like you are really pushing it and have a big interest in it.

No just a satified user. I happen to have found the program that has met most of my needs and am happy to extend my happiness of finding it to others. Not everyone is going to think RoxBox is the end al of karaoke programs. I happen to have tried out several programs before latching onto RoxBox as it also showed me that my belief that jsut because it costs big bucks doesn't mean it is better than the smaller guys.  I have watched others make that mistake and lived to regret it when told of the programs I have found. had one guy pissed at me that I hadn't come along before he wasted money on buying cavs, when I told him of MTU Hoster which I was considering at the time. I jsut didn't have $500 to spend on a program that might not run on the computer I was at that time considering using.  That computer was half the processor speed in my rackmount computer that I am using now.

Can any of these programs choose a song and add the song to the playlist from any drive including multiple DVD drives. The reason I am asking because I have a lot of music in SCDG and from what I have heard there is no way to save it on my hard drive to play it with any of these programs. I am thinking if I have multiple dvd drives I can play some of the SCDG through them. Thanks!!

My understanding is you need CAVS player to play those files. Cavs uses a different format for their MP3+G songs (an mp3 file for audio and a mcg file for the graphics) so none of the other programs than Cavs will be able to read them.

if it can, Maybe I need to try it out.
Nope, MTU told me he would sue anyone who wrote a converter that would play his KMA files in another player....He said "it will never happen" cause he wouldn't allow it to happen.

So there you are, you are tempted to try another program, but as you can see what I've been complaining about is valid after all.....If you convert to KMA with Hoster, you are stuck with Hoster unless you rerip EVERYTHING using another ripping program. Hoster is a one way street.

....And I said I was thru complaining about MTU....

Yep, I know what you mean! If you think like the boss at MTU you're OK, but if you don't or worst, have the gots to express your opinion, watch out!!

If I were a KJ, I would probably use Hoster, to me it looks like a good software but, will they ever change that terrible key changer, man, you can't get worst!!

I use Karawin Pro, it's the original midi player and it now plays all format; zip, mp3+g, wma+g, wave+g... it extracts to cdg, bin, it converts files, it captures video, play vcd, has a good key changer, it allows you to record the vocal perfectly in sync with the music, the latest version 2.0 now plays in 24 bit... I can go on & on... but the most important thing, it uses THE best sound engine call Bass Audio, sorry, none of the above mention program can compete when it comes to sound quality, sorry!

Not sure it's the perfect software to run a show, I'll let the pro's comment on that but it's by far THE best software available for karaoke purposes, much cheaper than MTU software and the owner doesn't have an attitude problem!

Does karawin pro allow names in the que identifying what song belongs to whom?
I actually disagree with your assessment of Hoster's Keychanger. I feel it is one of the pluses, aside from being able to deal with multiplex songs. That said, RoxBox is trying to address both issues with their own player to replace Winamp with.

Mickey do you know offhand why or what is your thoeories on this?  Does it use wdm or asio drivers?  This is one I havnt tried but might now..
I use the M-Audio delta 44 sound card which uses the wdm or asio drivers. I can import a mp3 into Sonar3, mix down applying fx and then thru the outboard mixer and procs and record into another track.  Then I run the original out 3/4 and the final track out 1/2 and balance for the best overall sound. It is awesome. Then I export the result into a wav file. Using Winamp Media Player or any others playing this wav file does not even come close to the sonar3 playback.  I once thought that is was the fact that sonar3 is using asio drivers but I dont know....The dac or digital to analogue conversion has improved over the years but there is something that I cant put my finger on as yet....

I suggest you try their XMPlay player and you'll hear what a great sound is all about. I'm using an Emu-1212m with balanced cables and some pro software from Steinberg (Cubase, WaveLab), tried many software and everytime it sounded good, it's because it was using the Bass engine, do a search on the net, you'll see...

www.un4seen.com/

I never work with an mp3 to do my testing, always a wave file played in a FAT32 formated drive and with a good pair of monitor headphones or studio monitors. Also, when I record a song, I always prepare my audio track by importing the track in wave using Cubase and than capture the vocal in wave using Cubase or Karawin Pro. I than use my plugins for the fx and combine both tracks in wave, normalise and compressed in mp3 using the Lame encoder in Wavelab.

Yea I agree on the wav test Mickey I use the above pocedure to improve old recordings especially if they are in compressed form and some karaoke mp3's.   But the way my system is setup and peaked it takes one hell of an improvement to hear the difference with all thr fx and procs on... I downloaded karawin pro and will flash drive it over to my system and try try the sound engine but I am a big Roxbox fan right now :) With it  I just record the vocals at a live show into wav then import into the mixing software with the music track then mix down etc....

If it has a Bass.dll in the program folder, it means it uses the Bass engine :D  No wonder it sounds good :)

RoxBox is the first out with a convertor for MCG and NCG which is the cavs formats. It means that if you've downloaded songs from cavs or had a cavs jukebox then you haven't wasted your money when you bought the cavs stuff.
